Paixao: The World Beyond The Rift [Complete (finally!)]

Characters: Karst, Alphonse Elric, and anyone else who wants anything to do with us.
Content: Karst talks for a while and they go in search of a way to go home... and the means to stay alive until they find said way home.
Setting: Starting out around Niflheim in G10, heading slowly towards Auntie Unde's in H7
Time: Afternoon-ish?
Warnings: Rambling. Karst suddenly wanted to talk a lot.

Karst was grateful for her new companion's optomism and gentle demeanor, despite the fact that she couldn't see him for all that bulky armor. And he spoke like a learned scholar, but was apparently still a child. How... interesting. It almost made her giggle.

"Then I suppose if we are to find a way to go home, it would be further into the city, yes?" She glanced about, determined that the gate was the south-west corner of the city and that logically, more of the city was north-east, and started walking. "Then let's start searching."

A goal. Just what she needed. Take her mind off of Isaac and her ceaseless vengeance quest, take her mind off of the loss of her sister, help this boy look for his brother and find a way home, but start by traveling into the city in search of clues, this was a distraction and a much-needed one at that. Her new companion's bulk and spiked armor reminded her vaguely of Agatio (only bigger, spikier, and smarter), but she didn't let that bother her.

"Well... nobody knows what's beyond the Rift," she explained as they traveled. "Prox and Mars Lighthouse are on the northern edge of the world where I'm from, so far north it isn't on any Southern map. It's a common pastime to make up stories about what's on the other side of the Rift, and most of the time it's another world like Weyard. When we realized there were edges along the Southern portions of the world, too, Agatio and I made up stories about the kinds of worlds beyond them. I guess I should have expected that another world would be very different from what I was familiar with."

She considered for a moment. "The Southern edges were submerged in the ocean and were waterfalls. The Southerners call them Gaia Falls. It's probably the most beautiful aspect of water I have ever seen, a waterfall, I'd never seen them before."

Karst hadn't realized how much she'd wanted to just talk to somebody who didn't know, didn't care who she was, to just talk and talk forever, until she'd opened her mouth and started rambling about waterfalls, about water! But the armored boy was considerate enough to let her talk and walk, which she appreciated just as much as, if not more than, his optomism and cheerfulness.

A white shape curled and uncurled at the corner of her eye, but was gone when she actually looked at it. She didn't mention it in case it upset the boy. No reason to go arousing trouble, usually trouble came for one soon enough anyway.

A stiff wind curled her double-cape around her, and it occurred to her that most of the blonde and blue-eyed (Isaac) Southerners were wearing heavier clothing than she was used to seeing, a sign they thought it was cold (it seemed rather warm to her, but then... Prox never got warm weather). She slowed, glanced over to her new companion. "... Are you okay? It seems to be somewhat cold by local standards."

Alphonse stands in a stunned silence as Karst disappears further into the store. Sadly, this is not the first time he's met someone who can hold so much hatred for an entire race just because of the acts of one person. It makes him sad. Seeing people in pain always hurts him too. And speaking from experience, revenge only brings more pain. Clinging to pain and sorrow makes no sense.

He lets her go, not knowing what he could possibly say to make her feel better. He's not even sure how she came to the conclusion that Ed wanted to 'lay with her' just from a wink and a smile. His brother is many things, but lecherous is not one of them.

He turns back to the shopkeeper, his words as much for his brother as they are for her. "I'm sorry about my friend. We are all very far from home, and he don't know how to get back. We're..stressed. I'm sure she doesn't mean to be so angry."

The girl really didn't know how to answer Karst, and it seemed she wasn't expected to. So she did what she could do best in a situation like this - she listened. Till she suddenly found herself nearly on the floor. Luckily, she was fairly agile and hopped to her feet before she really had a chance to topple over.

Stepping up beside Karst, she nodded. "Mmm, I tried to look at the clothes, but..." she said, looking a little embarrassed, "I was a little lost. I've never bought much clothing. I made all my dresses myself."

"Ah, but I will try to find something," she then added, and took off to go try looking at the clothing again. She figured she'd take care of that first, since she still had a hunch that food thing had still been a rouse.

She poked through the racks till she finally pulled out a coat that looked very warm and looked like would fit, coming to her knees in a dress-like shape.

(OOC: Ah go look at ooc journal? Tris apparently has caused/causing an earth quake XD which I guess we might feel X.x)

Ed felt the rumble in his feet and then heard the RedHead's shout. She was right, the building didn't look very stable as it was, now. He nodded once, clapped his hands, and then rested them on the wall of the building. A blue glow enveloped the walls, windows and doors, and the change seemed to melt the walls into something nicer and more fortefied than what was previously there. The windows carried a thicker glass now, and the door had new crossbars.

"There! Better than new!" He turned to look at the clerk with a kindly, almost childlike grin as the last of the shakes faded away. "So, what was that about a commission for renovating and reinforcing the shop? Any supplies we need?"

The clerk gaped at him like a fish out of water. "What? There's no profit in that--"

"No? Oh well, guess I'll have to turn this place back to it's falling down shack status. Too bad, though, because it would have attracted more customers, this way." Ed claps his hands again, turning towards the wall.

"W-wait! Wait, please...maybe we can strike up a deal, yes? A bargain?" The clerk smiled hopefully, batting her eyes at Ed's back.

Ed grinned at the wall and turned towards her. "I knew you'd see it my way. Well, Al, what do you think would be a fair trade for this...new establishment?"

The entirety of Alphonse's metal form rumbles and clatters when the ground shakes beneath him. He emits a startled cry and claps his hand over the top of his helmet to keep it from tumbling off his body. The last thing he needs to do is terrify Karst and Marona with his lack of...being.

He darts of towards the back of the shop to see if the two girls were alright, actually relieved when Karst storms past him back towards the counter. He peeks around the corner towards the section with the clothes.

"Marona? Are you okay- ACK!" The aftershock tips a precariously balanced can off it's high shelf and it lands with a loud, echoing gong on the back of Al's helmet. The helmet is knocked forward, and he has to scramble with his hands to grab it out of the air and slam it back into place. He freezes in place for a moment, then sneaks back around into the aisle, praying that no one saw too much.

He heads back to the front, coming up beside his brother during his bargaining with the shopkeeper. "We..uh.." He's still a bit nervous from nearly loosing his head. "... shouldn't take anymore then you need, brother."

The green-haired girl was really very surprised when the ground started shaking beneath her feet. It was a good thing Karst had steadied her. She never had been through an earthquake before - at least that she could remember. It's quite possible she could have slept through one or something.

She sighed in relief as the movement stopped. Making one last glance at the coat, she looked around for anything else and noticed some mittens. Her fingers had been awfully cold earlier, so that seemed like a good idea too.

Then it started shaking again. A little harder this time. "Wha-what's causing this?" she whimpered softly to herself, fear starting to get a grip on her. Hearing Alphonse's call startled her from her panicing and she stepped into the other end of the aisle Alphonse was in ... just in time to see him nearly lose his head for a moment.

Easily she slipped back around the end of the row before she was spotted, crouching down in hiding. Curiousity distracting her from the fear she'd felt, she waited only a second to peek back into the aisle, just catching Al quickly disappear himself down another.

Well, that was the last piece to the puzzle she'd been wondering about. Seeing that just confirmed what she'd been starting to suspect. This new piece of knowledge really changed nothing for however. It just quelled much of her curiousity. She liked him, and what he was made no impact on her decision of that fact.

Deciding to take care of her purchese first, she hurried her way over to the counter behind Karst and gave the clerk the money for the coat and mittens without ceremony. It used most of what Karst had given her, but that was okay. It's what it had been for right? She still had a few coins from home that could be used, and when she found Ash, he'd surely come up with something.

Hugging her new coat close to her chest, she approached Alphonse, giving him a warm smile, "I heard you a moment ago ... thank you! I'm okay! Just .. a little ... well, kind of scared... Are you okay?" She asked, looking up at him with concern, "Something fell off a shelf and hit you on the head, huh?"

[identity profile] justcallmeed.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ed looked up to Al, throwing him a concerned look. "All right there, Brother?" He slid the money Marona tried to offer the clerk back to the girl. "Don't worry, I've got this handled. All I need is a bag and some food, and I'm sure you could use something to eat. Are you certain all you want is mittens? I think we'll have to conserve what money we have for a room, or we'll all be sleeping out in the cold!" He offered her a calming, older brother smile and then shifted like his attention was caught by some shiny.

He pops over to the racks of supplies, finding a satchel and stuffing his journal in it before going after basic travel foodstuffs (cheese, bread, dried meats, etc). He was still hungry, but they would probably be on their way out soon. Those white things couldn't possibly be around still after the quake and it's aftershocks, could they?

Ed paused a moment and then grabbed another bag. He'd seen the RedHead pick up some food, but he didn't notice if she grabbed a travel bag as well. Might as well try to make nice, if the four of them were going to be stuck together. "Hey, Red, do you want a bag for that bread and cheese, or are you going to store it all in your stomach?"

[[Ugh! -=beats fingers for wanting to type BAD instead of BAG=-]]

Al manages to look a bit embarassed and rubs the back of his helmet with a large, leathered hand. "Yeah, it kind of did. I'm ok though, it'll take more then a wayward can to stop me!"

He pats the top of her head lightly, her smile and exuberance reminds her of a little girl he used to entertain when they first arrived in Central. He's thankful for the blank expression of his helmet's face right now, knowing that the sudden spark of sadness that runs through him remains unseen.

Al suddenly realizes, after loosing so many friends, that for the rest of his life there will always be people who will remind him of them. Nina was a beautiful little girl, and her death was horribly tragic. Yet, she lives in Marona's smile, and the smile of every other little girl.

His form seems to relax a bit after that thought.

[identity profile] chroma-girl.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The green-haired girl giggled softly at Al's response to her, but turned back to the counter as she found her money pushed back at her by Ed.

"Um.. but..." she stuttered, with a blush, "Um, thank you."

She then pointed to the warm coat in her arms, "I wasn't buying just mittens, Ed-san. I didn't have a coat when I got here."

Ed's further words crept into her and dug their way into her thoughts, his smile to her not really helping. A room? Sleeping? Food? Thoughts like those were daunting. Somewhere in her head the idea of finding Ash and going right home still lingered. But of course they were stuck here, they would have to do those things wouldn't they? But needing those things here meant they were here to stay for awhile, which was something that overwhelmed her emotions.

Slipping away from them for a moment alone, to hide her sad face, she peeked out through the window. Torn from her home, dumped alone in a strange, cold world, surrounded by creatures waiting to attack them, the very ground now quaking beneath them, and no sign of finding her guardian. It was nearly too much for poor Marona. She fought off crying however. She wanted to again, but she couldn't. It wouldn't make things better. She'd promised herself to try to be strong, so she had to keep trying. Yet, still, why couldn't this all just be a dream?

So she quietly gazed out at the glass, wondering if those creatures were still out there. One thought did now pass her mind, and when she felt could say it without revealing her saddness she spoke up.

"Where... will we go now?"

[identity profile] justcallmeed.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ed's smile faded at RedHead's growling at him, but she relented. Then his smile to Marona faded more when she walked away, suddenly sad. He looked up to Al with a confused, almost pouty look and then sighed, looking at the clerks counter and scratching the back of his head with his automail hand. RedHead didn't remind him so much of Winry, but her feisty grandmother, Pinako or even that girl Klose. And the little girl was more like Nina, or Elisya. So many friends and passers by were echoed in those two people.

Those two seemed as if this was going to be a quick in and out event, here. Go find what they were looking for, and then they could leave. Ed only wished that were the case. He wished he was wrong more often, and in the good way, too. He decided that it might be best to keep he and his brother's troubles to a minimum with the others. He thought that RedHead--was anyone going to tell him her name?-- would only believe he was trying to one-up her on problems, and poor little Marona didn't seem like she could take it, at the moment.

Ed's voice is quiet as he murmurs to Al. "Al...let's help these two find their friends and get them back home. Then we can search for the Stone, here, if they have any clues, and find our way home."

He looked to the clerk, eying past her and pointed. "And before I forget, I'll take one of those small cans of oil."

[[Uhhh, I'm 30, so I'm OLDER than you! :P ~~When I can't be shorter, I can be older~~]]

Al nods, his eyes on Marona as she wanders away. She looks so sad it breaks his heart. He wasn't any better a short time ago, when he thought that he and his brother had been separated for good.

The very thought of being lost and alone in a strange world is terrifying, not to mention being attacked by strange white creatures are getting caught in and earthquake. He couldn't blame either Marona or Karst for how wound up they are. He actually thinks they are taking things rather well considering.

He has his fears, and his doubts. But he knows he has to have faith though. Faith in himself, and in his brother. Like Edward, he's thinking they are going to be here for a while. If none of them knows how they got here then getting home is not going to be an easy feat to accomplish.

"Maybe we should find out if there is anyone in this city who knows what's going on?"

[identity profile] chroma-girl.livejournal.com 2006-10-26 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Lost in her thoughts it takes a moments pause before she realizes Karst was addressing her. Looking to the young women, she leaves the window and nods slowly.

"Un.. I'm okay, Karst-san," she replies softly, although her voice shakes a little. She's trying however. "I'm ... just a little frightened," she truthfully admitted.

"I hope we can, somehow. I ... guess I hadn't thought of having to .. stay here," she nearly whispered, looking down at her feet suddenly. "I hope Ash is okay ... I'm ... still worried," she explained.

She was worried. Ash wasn't like the rest of her phantoms, he was special in many ways. At home he didn't always have to rely on her confining abilities to become tangible, he could use his own energy. So if here, he chose to fight ... She really hoped she was worrying for nothing.

While she waited for everyone else to finish with their business, she slipped her new coat on, buttoning it up carefully. She then wrapped the blanket back around her shoulders, it was so lovely and warm, the extra warmth she imagined would be a good thing. Fixing the scarf about her neck and slipping her hands into the mittens, she was all set.

"Alright, I'm ready when everyone else is," she said, forcing herself to smile once more. It was hard, but she had to keep trying to smile.

Edward watches the girls as he fishes around for his journal in his bag. He opens it up, and with a few pokes, manages to find the map on it. He peers at the map for a while and then turns to the clerk lady, smiling brightly. "Miss, if you could help us out with one more thing? We need to find an inn for the night, and a some of these words are unfamiliar." He turns his journal to her and gives her a hopeful look.

The clerk hums softly and points to one of the blocks near her store. "There. Actua Are is a hotel and that's near Cid's Shop. That's as close as you're going to get in terms of an inn, around here."

"Great, thank you!" He turns back to the haphazard group. "Well, now that we have an idea where we're going, how's it look outside?

Al steps over by Marona and peers through the newly fortified windows. "If we are going to head out we should do it now. The...whatever they are.. seem to have left the area. Unless they're hiding."

He turns around to face everyone else. "I'll go first, you guys can hide behind my armor. Just incase."
