Paixao: The World Beyond The Rift [Complete (finally!)]

Characters: Karst, Alphonse Elric, and anyone else who wants anything to do with us.
Content: Karst talks for a while and they go in search of a way to go home... and the means to stay alive until they find said way home.
Setting: Starting out around Niflheim in G10, heading slowly towards Auntie Unde's in H7
Time: Afternoon-ish?
Warnings: Rambling. Karst suddenly wanted to talk a lot.

Karst was grateful for her new companion's optomism and gentle demeanor, despite the fact that she couldn't see him for all that bulky armor. And he spoke like a learned scholar, but was apparently still a child. How... interesting. It almost made her giggle.

"Then I suppose if we are to find a way to go home, it would be further into the city, yes?" She glanced about, determined that the gate was the south-west corner of the city and that logically, more of the city was north-east, and started walking. "Then let's start searching."

A goal. Just what she needed. Take her mind off of Isaac and her ceaseless vengeance quest, take her mind off of the loss of her sister, help this boy look for his brother and find a way home, but start by traveling into the city in search of clues, this was a distraction and a much-needed one at that. Her new companion's bulk and spiked armor reminded her vaguely of Agatio (only bigger, spikier, and smarter), but she didn't let that bother her.

"Well... nobody knows what's beyond the Rift," she explained as they traveled. "Prox and Mars Lighthouse are on the northern edge of the world where I'm from, so far north it isn't on any Southern map. It's a common pastime to make up stories about what's on the other side of the Rift, and most of the time it's another world like Weyard. When we realized there were edges along the Southern portions of the world, too, Agatio and I made up stories about the kinds of worlds beyond them. I guess I should have expected that another world would be very different from what I was familiar with."

She considered for a moment. "The Southern edges were submerged in the ocean and were waterfalls. The Southerners call them Gaia Falls. It's probably the most beautiful aspect of water I have ever seen, a waterfall, I'd never seen them before."

Karst hadn't realized how much she'd wanted to just talk to somebody who didn't know, didn't care who she was, to just talk and talk forever, until she'd opened her mouth and started rambling about waterfalls, about water! But the armored boy was considerate enough to let her talk and walk, which she appreciated just as much as, if not more than, his optomism and cheerfulness.

A white shape curled and uncurled at the corner of her eye, but was gone when she actually looked at it. She didn't mention it in case it upset the boy. No reason to go arousing trouble, usually trouble came for one soon enough anyway.

A stiff wind curled her double-cape around her, and it occurred to her that most of the blonde and blue-eyed (Isaac) Southerners were wearing heavier clothing than she was used to seeing, a sign they thought it was cold (it seemed rather warm to her, but then... Prox never got warm weather). She slowed, glanced over to her new companion. "... Are you okay? It seems to be somewhat cold by local standards."

Alphonse stands in a stunned silence as Karst disappears further into the store. Sadly, this is not the first time he's met someone who can hold so much hatred for an entire race just because of the acts of one person. It makes him sad. Seeing people in pain always hurts him too. And speaking from experience, revenge only brings more pain. Clinging to pain and sorrow makes no sense.

He lets her go, not knowing what he could possibly say to make her feel better. He's not even sure how she came to the conclusion that Ed wanted to 'lay with her' just from a wink and a smile. His brother is many things, but lecherous is not one of them.

He turns back to the shopkeeper, his words as much for his brother as they are for her. "I'm sorry about my friend. We are all very far from home, and he don't know how to get back. We're..stressed. I'm sure she doesn't mean to be so angry."

"She's your friend too? Boy, Al, you do collect and interesting array of friends." Ed rubs the back of his head with his fleshed hand and shows an embarassed grin. "You know, I think I liked it better when you found stray kittens in the gutter." He shifts the change pouch on his belt and counts out some coin. "Hmmm, this isn't going to last us for a long time. Since you've been around here longer than I, Al, you know any way to earn some money around here?"

Ed looks around the shop to see if anything is in need of repair. The whole building doesn't look in great shape. He beams and smiles at the shop lady, hoping that there was something that needed repairing. "Got anything you need fixed? We're the people to fix it for you!"
