Have you ever seen me defeated? [Active]
Character(s): Shiki, Nobodies. Then Linali and Rin find him, o noes.
Content: He gets pwned by some. :| Then they come to help!
Setting: Somewhere in the Muspelheim area.
Time: A few hours after the encounter with Akira.
Warnings: He gets his butt kicked! Not very graphic though because I was too lazy to write it.
It seemed that Shiki's original plan of action would require a slight detour.
The onslaught of strange creatures had taken him by surprise; he had never seen anything like this in his life before. He honestly didn't know what to make of them. Was this another stage of Igura? It must have been... but that still didn't tell him what they were. Did it have something to do with the Nicole Virus? Experiments of Arbitro's...?
He'd been heading down one of the less-populated streets after playing with the journal he had been given for a bit. Things seemed to get disturbingly calm and quiet then as the night went on, and there was a sense of uneasiness in the air that even Shiki could sense, even if he was not a local. Something bad was going to happen. Of course, then, he didn't fear it. Anything that he had come up against so far back home had been relatively easy to defeat, and he wasn't about to place a bet on the crazy people who seemed to think this was an entirely different world just yet...
Then he heard a strange noise. Something moving, something emitting an odd sound he couldn't even describe—whatever it was, it sounded like no human nor human he had ever encountered before. He had no idea what to make of it, but he'd frozen in place and shifted his eyes left and right, trying to find the source of it. Nothing.
They came at him out of nowhere.
He couldn't tell if they were human or animal. Their anatomy didn't make any sense. Their speed was incredible, and they seemed invincible. This was the first time in a very long time that he felt an ugly ball of fear begin to knot in his stomach; this was the first time he actually felt that he feared for his life.
At first, he felt something come at his back. He was knocked down to the ground, catching himself on his palms. Eyes wide, he struggled for his sword—but attempting to pull something that was about four feet long out of a sheath that was the same length proved to be quite difficult when pinned down on the ground. He quickly yanked it out as far as it would go, and then---as much as he hated to—wrapped his fingers about the blade and guided it out hastily, feeling the sharp edge press to his skin through the leather of his gloves.
Blindly, he swung it single-handedly over his head—it wasn't quite as effective as he wanted it to be, but the thing got a good cut on its head and jumped back. It gave Shiki enough time to roll onto his back and properly adjust his grip on his sword. Pushing himself up into a sitting position, and then standing, he readied for battle.
Still, he wasn't as resilient as he hoped he could be. The number of the strange creatures multiplied, and of course he had no time to contemplate their origins. He had to defend his life now—a concept very foreign to him, from so many successful years in Igura. The rather one-sided battle seemed endless to him, and it soon became apparent that it would not be easy and his chances of winning were very slim.
With an injured body and bruised pride, Shiki backed off from the fight and turned, running. It was shameful and he was extremely disgusted with himself for it, but... feeling his ankle give way as he turned down an alleyway to take cover, he was thankful in the end. Panting hard, he let his body slide down the brick wall, one leg curled and the other propped up. He stared dully down at the faulty ankle which would surely swell soon, and sighed distastefully.
Pathetic. He needed to find Akira...

They finally landed on a rooftop. That seemed to be their current safeplace since the monsters favored creeping upon the floor. She stepped away from Rin, fixing her hair a bit. She took out her journal to check the map again. "Well, we're here. Here being K4, between the art museum and Ersesat Manor... I hope I pronounced that right. We can do two things: either start checking each building, or splitting up; you stay here and contact your brother and I look for him with the help of my boots. Your pick."
As she waited for the older man's response, she glanced at the peach skies depicted upon the domes. The sun was setting and it will soon be dark...
no subject
"He's nearby... call it a sibling thing..." he smiled a little, before looking around a moment. "Contacting would probably only work if I pissed him off and he ended up talking so you could hear him." He moved towards the edge of the roof and peered down, looking for blood or a trail of white creature lifelessly about. That was the best way to know any participent of Igura had been nearby; blood trails and bodies, living or dead. "Let's go down there together, I'd feel terrible if something ended up happening and I wasn't there to at least help..."
no subject
Peach crawled up the blue, slowly swallowing it up. Just beyond the horizon of the city the sky began to turn black. How omnious. The man sighed and tried to concentrate on the voices. And then he picked up the line of conversation: contacting.... pissed him off... talking so you could hear him... go together...
"Rin," he muttered. Swallowing hard, he braced himself against the wall and tried to stand. He didn't know if he wanted to run or make his presence known. Either way, the attempt to move was fruitless; with a soft groan he slid back down the wall and a hand immediately reached to clutch his slowly swelling ankle.
"Fuck..."
no subject
Snapping out of her musing, she turned to Rin and informed that they'd have to jump down. "You shouldn't be climbing just yet, so I guess I'll have to carry you once more, teehee!" she said with rosy cheeks.

His attention returned to Linali, and he gave her a little grin. "I think I'll be all right if you'd give me a hand down, Linali-chan." He looked back down, and moved his hand not near his katana to his side. It wasn't wet yet with bleeding of any kind, so he'd be all right, really.
no subject
Shiki could do nothing but sit and wait. He had attempted to stand several times as the two tried to find him, and was too stubborn and stuffed with pride to make his presence known. Still, the sound of his rustlimng and leather crunching might have given him away. His frustration also forced another loud, rather unrefined, "FUCK," out of his throat, as he slid down the wall for the last time without assistance.
"Ugh..."
no subject
'Fuck!'
Sweatdrop.

He walked with his katana out, since he'd pulled it out once they were on the ground, and made his way towards the alley. The sound of it sheathing was made obvious, and he stepped into the alley with a concerned look on his face. "Nii-san?" And there he was. He could see the obvious sign of leather and crosses and black and red. Shiki. He hadn't changed a bit since he last saw him, and because it was the Shiki he had seen last.
no subject
"Rin," he said softly, not calling to him, just to simply utter the name on his lips. He wouldn't bother trying to stand again, he had his pride to protect. He could not fall in front of him, after all. The black-haired man forced his eyes to narrow and he gave a glare in his direction, then looked away quickly.
"I thought I made it clear I didn't need you..." Ah, he was still putting up a fight, it seemed.
no subject
A slender silhouette, Linali peered behind the blonde man into the alley. She thought it better for Rin to approach his brother first before she, a stranger. That always aggravated an injured person, especially someone stubborn like Shiki. Unseen to the swordsman were her compassionate eyes; he sounded really hurt, but she also knew that he had to consider his safety over his health. It was common sense, was it not? Pride is something you build up anyway. She sighed softly; then tapped Rin's arm.
"I'll be right here and keep vigil. Take the kit and call me if you need my medical assistance." After handing the bag, she turned and stood before the alley, keenly scanning every movement in the area. Were it necessary for her to attack, she was ready.
no subject
"Since when have I listened to everything you've said, Shiki?" he teased, walking into the alley at a pace like one would approach an animal that'd been injured. "Would you just let me help you for once?" Rin would approach this head-on, but still slow enough to not fully provoke him immediately.
no subject
"No," he said firmly, narrowing his eyes. "I don't need you. I don't need anyone, and I especially don't need you." His eyes wavered a moment as he glanced down to the medical kit, but he forced his gaze back up to Rin's face, holding a cold glare on him.
no subject
"Rabi..." she whispered. She looked over her shoulder to check on Rin... but that was a bad move. A Nobody shot out of the corner and leaped into the air, pausing there long enough for Linali to spin around and look straight into its face.
A woman of reflexes, Linali leaped backwards, dodging what would have been a beheading. A sharp kick upwards as she backflipped met its mark, causing the Nobody to crash against the alley wall. The exorcist raised her voice at the two men. "I don't want to rush you, but we've got company!"
no subject
"Damnit, would you just swallow your fucking pride for five minutes?" he grit his teeth a little, before approaching despite the sword. He stopped across from him, close to the alley wall that his brother was not leaned against, and crouched down with the kit in hand. "This isn't the best time for us to be fighting, if you haven't noticed." He said this dryly, losing his irritated tone and wiping all emotion off his face.
However, his attention was quickly on the noise of the Nobody's slam into the wall. His blue-green eyes were the only thing to move, although his lips did curl up a little and his free hand went to his katana's hilt. "Fuck," baring his teeth, the blonde spared a glance to Linali to make sure she was all right, before he quickly looked back at his brother. He would wait for his response, to see if he'd still be a stubborn bastard.

And then he heard the woman. Grunting in distaste, he turned his head to look at her. His eyes widened at the sight: more of those white creatures. Immediately his heart rate began to race, struck with a whole array of bad feelings. He looked quickly back to Rin, and huffed. "Just this once..." he warned, and began to force himself to stand.
The blade lowered, and despite the pain in his twisting ankle, he wasn't about to get taken by these... things. Not now. He was racked with pain, but he swore he'd dealt with worse, so he'd put up with it. He had to, especially now- there were other's present. His blade turned on offense, instead, toward those white creatures.
As if their previous conversation hadn't even taken place, Shiki hissed, "These are dangerous, you don't want to tangle with them. You won't be able to stop them. Run."
Funny, weren't they the ones supposed to be helping him?

The Nobodies were now appearing from all streetways, below bushes, behind corners. Soon they would horde together and overwhelm the exorcist. Somehow, she had the feeling that they were attracted to her... That's what she'll do: distract them! She kept her fingers crossed, hoping this would work.
She speed-stepped to the left; the Nobodies swerved on invisible rollercoasters after the girl. Then, as she shouted for Rin and Shiki to run, she unleashed the power of her Dark Boots and rocketed through the street, taking the Nobodies with her.
no subject
"You moron, I've already fought them. So have you, obviously, because you still have injuries from it." His voice hardened, losing the cheerfulness that usually inhabited it constantly. His face also followed the hardening, and his eyes narrowed with the corners of his lips quirked downwards. "Linali is buying us time, let's use it and try to get out of here, Shiki. We're not a match for the things while like this."
The blonde would admit that Shiki was good, and that he was probably just as good himself. But these white creatures... He hesitated, before drawing his katana in one smooth motion, moving towards his brother with a narrowed eye on the Nobodies. "We can pretend this never happened, but your ankle is bad, isn't it? Come on." He held his arm out towards him, slowly turning blue-green eyes towards him. He just hoped Shiki would accept the offer of helping him run, rather than be a stubborn bastard a little bit more.

Red eyes shifted down, and he eyed the arm offered. Grudgingly, he limped toward him, and began to head on. If Rin wanted to support him somehow, that was his decision- Shiki would never willingly go into his brothers' embrace, but if it was instilled upon him... he decided, just this once, that he wouldn't retract from it. He needed help. That was all. This meant nothing.
Still, he refused to speak.

Adopting a slower pace in order to recuperate some energy, Linali took a deep breath as she made way back to K4.

He wasn't even going to get into though about Linali's abilities; he appreciated them now, and would let the headache come when they were safe somewhere. He didn't say anything, as to let the moment of help pass by and be easier to forget for the both of them. Shiki didn't enjoy his help, and until he would appreciate it at least once, Rin would push the moment out of memory.
Rin had seen something called the Ersesat Manor on his map when he'd been viewing it beforehand, and decided this would likely be a good place to hold up. If it were like Arbitro's villa, there would be guards. And this meant distractions for the white creatures while Rin tended to Shiki.
no subject
He let Rin walk with him, regretting the arm about him the whole time. Shiki hated help, and help from a very capable Rin who seemed to turn into a little "Shiki Lite" version of him was not helping at all. He limped along with him, forcing himself into silence. Brows furrowed tightly, he chewed on his lip.

"RAAa~AAAA~RABI--OOF!"
Black hair sprawled left and right, the exorcist was rendered dizzy below Bookman Junior's weight. At least he knocked any and all nearby Nobodies in the block.
Hand on her head, Linali got up with a slight wince but smiled gratefully. "Thanks for coming, Rabi."

There was also the fact Shiki also thought of him as a clone, which just wouldn't sit right with Rin but seemed to be true in his mind. Rin was just the lighter version of Shiki, in drastic comparison. He was unsure as to how he should react to this sort of thing, but... He continued to go along, shifting his katana when he needed to, and resisting the urge to chew on his own lip in fear of agrivating Shiki further.
Now was not the time to make things worse. He was already getting a headache because of the sun, the white things, Linali's abilities, Shiki's time difference... This, so far, was being more trouble than it was worth.
no subject
"Where are we going anyway," Shiki gruffly panted out, and it was more like an order than a question. He still was trying to make it very clear that he wasn't enjoying this, as if Rin would misunderstand the slightest hint of niceness and take it in the wrong direction. Shiki really didn't want that to happen.

"So then..." the exorcist started. "Let's go towards the manor. I have a hunch they've gone there."
((ooc: Excuse the repost, but I wanted to edit with this ooc note. Once Linali checks Shiki's ankle, she's going to leave them with Rabi and go pick up Raven as she promised her earlier. Just a heads up with what I plan to do. :x I hope you guys don't mind.))

Scanning blue-green eyes over the area, he would've checked his map if they weren't so occupied at the moment. He had a general idea of where he was going at this point, so now he headed in the direction he thought best. There were larger buildings around here from what he could tell, anyways, so the manor had to be hanging out around there.
[No problem, Kei~]

The sound of a shrieking whistle announced her arrival and she dented the pavement of the Ersesat manor front entrance. She didn't look down and squeak apologetically the first day she arrived. No, she was tired and worried now, but somehow she held some hope. Shiki and Rin and Rabi are safe... that's what I need to think about.
She deftly stepped out of the jutting slabs of down, partly pushing them down so that tripping would be less easy to do. A quick scan of the area; they weren't around. That must mean they got inside somehow. Activating her boots again, Linali leaped up the artificial pine trees lining the manor like sentries and scoped for signs of red hair, a mallet, or something even more obtrusive.

Rin's generally soft voice cracked into cold and harsh, and likely could've greatly resembled Shiki's if he were to speak loud enough for it to echo like it did. He hissed through his teeth, cupping his nose with his hand and narrowing his eyes darkly ahead of him. It was not an expression normally fitting of the young man, but when he'd just been punched in the nose, one couldn't honestly blame him.
If there was such a thing as carcasses for these creatures, the blonde was pretty sure he'd left a good trail behind him. Instead, they disapeared, and he was left to find a place of solitude for a moment, gritting his teeth as he leaned against a pillar out of sight. He didn't realize the numbers had already been diminishing of the white monsters, he was too intent on finding Shiki and kicking him in the kneecap hard enough he wouldn't be going anywhere for a while.

The girl frowned; this was a pained and frustrated yell, as the words expressed. What had happened? She jogged to voice source and pushed the door aside, albeit a little too strongly. "Oh!" she gasped, cringing at the ear-shattering bang of metal. "Sorry... what's wrong? Rin? Ah--! Where's Rabi? And..." She looked around. "Shiki's gone?"
no subject
"I don't know where your friend went, but Shiki took off after I helped with his ankle..." he narrowed blue-green eyes somewhat, brushing the back of his hand on his nose to see how much blood had started to come out. It had slowed at least... he was pretty sure Shiki could've punched him harder to break it, even. He seemed a little distracted to Rin, but he wasn't going to argue with luck.
no subject
Even so, the exorcist was clearly disappointed, but she didn't let that slow her pace as she traveled across the room to tidy the place and pick up her med kit. Taking out cottonballs and squashing them a little, she walked back to Rin and handed them to him. "It's not broken is it? Your nose."
First things first: take care of the injuries; then look for the missing people. She hoped that maybe Rin would accompany her to the Cheap Prayer...
((ooc: Should we revert to comment-replying or keep replying to the post?))
no subject
"No, I don't think so..." he took the cottonballs, and easily swallowed down pride of looking like an idiot with them in his nose. "It doesn't hurt like it would if it were broken..." Rin still figured Shiki might've been distracted with the punch, because the Shiki he remembered would've busted his nose as opposed to just giving him a nosebleed.
With that out of the way, he reached into the med kit and pulled out a square of guaze to rub the blood on his hand off onto. He didn't want to ruin his clothes anymore, and although the thought to rub it off onto the wall was a strong urge... he doubted Linali would enjoy that too much. Sighing awkwardly because of the cottonballs, he tilted his head.
"Any idea where Rabi might've gone? I'm sure Shiki's just run off for a better place to brood... and have a headache about this whole time thing..."
no subject
Linali wanted to be vague. She didn't want to think about her missing friends. More importantly, she took the dirty gauze and dropped them into a plastic bag. She already had three full bags to dispose of when she returned to the hotel.
The hotel. That's where they should go next, right? Rin didn't like Gunzi, and Gunzi didn't like Rin either. It would be better if she continued alone...again. Yeah, that would be the better choice. And Rin must be tired. She nodded to herself, stepping into the threshold and laying a finger on the lightswitch.
"Do you want to find him? His ankle must be terribly swollen and it won't go down until at least half an hour if you used the ice pack. He should still be in the manor."
