‘Where am I?’ Belle wondered as she stood up.
The last thing she remembered was walking along in the woods around the castle. She had decided to go on a little adventure and explore the are more and it was fun for awhile, until she slipped down a hill and hit her head. When she opener her eyes she didn’t see the woods anymore. She saw...
A line. She started walking towards the line, pausing every so often to stand on her tiptoes trying to see what the line was for. All she could see was a gate. This made Belle quite curious as to what could possibly be on the other side of the gate that made all these people stand in line. And so patiently too.
She stood in line for a bit, but the line moved quite slow so she decided to go to the gate to see if this was something she really wanted to get into. As she got closer she decided that it did not quite look very welcoming, but it did look...interesting. She had never seen anything like it before. ‘It looks like something out of one of my books. I seem to have stumbled upon my very own adventure.’
When she got to the front of the line she tried to peer beyond the gate.
“Miss I need your name if you’re going to enter.” The mann behind the booth said.
“Oh, I was just wondering what was going on here. I’m not–“
“Name please” The man said cutting her off.
“Belle. Can you just tell me what is going on?”
“All information can be found in the brochures”
Belle picked up some brochures and looked at them. “Paixao” She read. Belle had never heard of such a place. She looked questioningly at the man but all he did was hand her a small blue rectangle. She took it and looked at the gate. She was very curious about this place but she didn’t want to go too far from home without letting anyone know where she was. But she couldn’t see the forest to get back home. Perhaps someone would know how to get home inside this place.
Once inside the gate, Belle looked around. All she could see ahead of her were average sized houses. She couldn’t see anything special about the place, but she walked on because there just had to be something about this place. She wouldn’t be here if she weren’t meant to be.
Belle kept walking towards the town in search of someone or some place that might give her more information about the place she was in. Looking around at the people she noticed that they all looked the same. All of them with blonde hair and blue eyes. Once again she was in a town where she stuck out like a sore thumb. Anyone would notice her wavy brown hair in this crowd. Even her blue dress was quite different than the clothes these people wore. She kept looking around taking everything in, hoping she would find a friendly face, among the blondes. But they didn’t even seem to notice her.
But this wasn’t the first time in Belle’s life that she received strange looks from town members. She would find someone to help her though...she was almost sure of it.

At first, he was going to go to Yuzuriha, but his Shikigami hasn't found where she is yet, so he will have to wait. Besides, in the current mood that he is in, he might snap at her and he doesn't want that. Subaru needs to smoke. It had started simply as something rebellious he wanted to do, but maybe it has recently become an addiction.
Subaru doesn't care anyway, he simply needs a cigarette. Walking through the crowd, he catches sight of a brown-haired lady who stands out like a sore thumb in the midst of the blonde blue-eyed citizens of Paixao. He catches her eye as she was looking around, but quickly averts his gaze and walks over to a small stall on his left.
"Cigarette," he mutters to the man without making eye contact, "any brand, two boxes." The man gives them to him without question, and Subaru gives him the money as indicated by the shopkeeper, taking the cigarette boxes without saying thank you. Lighting up one of his cigarettes, he tries to find the brown-haired girl. She seems to be confused, and Subaru feels a twinge of guilt at averting his gaze like that.
no subject
She didn't want to bother him, but at the same time she knew he had to be in the same type of situation as she was. Of course if he was as lost as she was he probably wouldn't be much help. But he was the only one that didn't look like everyone else. It was worth a shot.
She makes her way up to the man and gives a polite smile. "Hello Sir." She wasn't sure what else to say. She didn't want to assume anything about him. Besides if he was from around here he would ignore her like the rest of the people.

He leans on a nearby wall and exhales the smoke from his mouth slowly. Eyes closed, he mutters to Belle quietly, "What do you want?" There is no intimidation or irritation in the way he says those words, only weariness.
no subject
She glances around feeling a bit awkward, because it seemed she might be bothering the man. He sounded tired. Maybe he knew she was going to ask him about the place and he was tired of answering that question. Or he could be having a bad day. She doesn't stand too close to him, and tries to avoid smelling any of the smoke from his cigarette.
no subject
He turns back to Belle, "You're not bothering me," he says while placing the boxes and the lighter in the inside pocket of his trench coat. I'm lost too, I can't help you," saying those words in his mind again, he realizes that he sounded harsher than he intended. "Where are you from?" He asks her with more warmth to make up for his snark reply.

"I live in France." She looks around a bit. "Just outside a very small town." She wasn't sure why she added that detail and not that she lived in an enormous castle. But that hardly seemed important at the moment. Besides that, she didn't know the man or any of the people around her. In all the books it's the princesses that get captured first, and though she wanted adventure, getting captured wasn't one she particularly wanted to live out.
She looked at the man. He seemed nice enough. At least he was talking to her. And eventhough he was lost and probably not in a good mood he was trying to be nice. She was happy with that.

Either way, the girl does not seem to be dangerous enough to hurt him as long as he makes the effort to protect himself. Of course, appearances can be deceiving, but Subaru is not in the mood to care about it anyway. "You can call me Subaru. What should I call you by?" Subaru will not give her his full name, so he will not ask that of her either. Names can be used against the owner if one knows what to do with it. He does not want to make the same mistake all over again.
Having thrown away his cigarette after chain smoking since dawn, Subaru suddenly notices the hunger pains in his stomach. The last thing he ate was breakfast two days ago, and his stomach seems to want to kill him with the pain. Grimacing in pain slightly, he turns away from the girl so that she would not see his expression. "I'm going to go find something to eat now," he explains, "you can come along if you want, so we can talk on the way."
He rather hopes that she would follow, she seems nice enough. "I'll pay," he adds as an afterthought. Hokuto used to spend so much on all her branded clothes that he is left bewildered at all the money he ends up having since her leaving. It always causes him to miss her so much more.

"My name is Belle. It's nice to meet you, Subaru" She smiled. He was someone to talk to. And he was offering food. Well she wasn't overly hungry but she thought it might be wise to eat something. She didn't know when she'd be able to after this. "I'll come with you" She nodded.
Adventuring was always better with a friend anyhow. Not that he was exactly a friend. But all friendships started out small. And he was nice enough to offer to pay. She imagined if Cogsworth were with her, he would be telling her to be wary of this stranger. But Lumiere would make friends with the man too. She was always amused by the two of them.
She hoped Beast wouldn't mind. It was just dinner after all and nothing serious. She wished her prince had come with her though. Maybe he is lost in this place too. Maybe she'd find him here somewhere. It was someone to look for...that at least gave her a reason for being there.

Starting to walk toward wherever seems to be the center of the city, he turns slightly at her, "How did you find yourself here?" There are so many people who found themselves lost in this place that coincidence just cannot be the cause. As for himself, he had been thinking and smoking and wandering the streets of Tokyo when he realized that nowhere in Tokyo is there such tall trees. He should probably think up a better excuse than that if he does not want to look stupid in front of Belle.
Feeling slightly light-headed, Subaru points to the Niflheim train station shakily. "Train? I don't think I can walk very far," he explains, "I feel... tired," he is slightly embarassed that he is saying that to a girl. It is not because he is interested in wooing her; he is not interested in women, or anyone other than him anyway. Suddenly realizing what Belle had probably thought of him when he asked her for dinner, he blushes slightly and looks away. He would have gone red as a tomato a few years ago, but not anymore now.
"I... I don't mean anything by asking you for dinner." He coughs nervously, "You can tell your boyfriend, or whoever, that I'm not interested in women, or anyone, anyway." Subaru never really thought much about his sexuality. He never actually imagined Seishiro as a romantic interest, despite of how his sister seemed to encourage it so much. He loved, still loves, Seishiro in that all-encompassing way that is much more than romantic. Thinking about it leaves a bitter taste in his tongue however, because it reminds him of the man's betrayal and of Hokuto-chan's death. He wishes he can have a cigarette, it helps keep his mind off of these things.

“I was walking in the forest.” she thought it would be best to avoid the dinner subject and move on to the safer topic. “ There was a slippery slope that I slipped down. I think I might have hit my head..” She absently touches the back of her head. She hadn’t thought about how much it hurt when she started towards the gate. “But when I opened my eyes I was here. So I’m not really sure how I got here. It’s almost as if I just appeared here. Unless of course I hit my head harder than I thought and someone moved me here.” That last bit seemed to make a bit more sense anyway. But she didn’t think it was true. The forest always seemed to lead her to new places. She wasn’t sure if this place was a good one though.
She paused for a moment.. “Did you say you wanted to go on the train?” She had never been on a train before. There was no need really. But if he was lost too how did he know where the train would go? Or if it would bring them to food. Well it might bing them into a bigger city. Perhaps closer to an Inn. If she couldn’t get back she’d have to find somewhere to stay. And the train seemed like a good idea. Subaru did indeed look tired. He must have been here quite awhile she thought. “Do you know where we’re going?” She hoped he did. It would be good to travel with someone who knew the area. But if he just arrived she couldn’t figure out how he knew. Maybe he saw a map.

Subaru flips open his journal and goes to the map that is provided in the journal, showing it to Belle as an answer. He will probably not follow the map, however, he sent his Shikigami ahead of him after all. He will just have to go to where his three-headed dove is. "We don't really need the map," he explains. He knows where his Shikigami is, but he does not know the name of places so the map is basically useless to him. "We'll stop at the center of the city, there should be restaurants there."
Looking back at Belle, Subaru decides that putting up the cold and unapathetic mask is not needed anymore. He gives her a slight smile, "I'm going to go to a friend of mine, Yuzuriha, do you have anywhere you need to go to?" It would be impolite to just drag her to where he is going, after all. "I can escort you there," he offers, "there might be dangerous people here." There was Lucifer and Soma, he muses, and if there are the Seals, maybe the Angels are here as well.

She could look for Beast. Beast. Sometimes it didn’t seem appropriate to call him that, even as a nickname. She knew his name was Adam, but she couldn’t quite get used to calling him that. She figured she would eventually get used to it, but for now he remained Beast...But it seemed unlikely that she would find him anyway. She certainly couldn’t meet him if she didn’t know where he was. But she also didn’t want to abuse Subaru’s niceness. She couldn’t just follow him like a puppy all the time.
She decided it would be best to go with him to the center of town. He was right. There would have to be plenty of restaurants and places to stay. “I just got here really. I don’t think anyone from home would be here. So...I don’t know where to go. But the center of town seems like just as good a place to start as any.”
Maybe by the time they got to the center of town someone would have come looking for her. And they would have found this strange place. It was a hope anyway. And there had to be more people that were lost. She could make good friends. One of them might even know how to get back.

"You can come with me for as long as you want," he says quietly, still unsure of whether he really wants to say it or not. "I have too much money and too much time in my hands..." he looks away, deciding that he will not say the rest of the sentence. Too much time and too few company. He walks into the station, looking back one in awhile to make sure Belle is not left behind.
Purchasing two tickets, Subaru wonders why the person before him paid with gold coins while he was allowed to pay with yen. The cashier seems to have changes in yen, as well, which is very curious. He saves that thought for later, however, and gestures for Belle to come quickly. "The train leaves in about a minute," he explains, trying not to be too cold and yet not too warm. He is still unsure of whether he can trust her or not.
no subject
He made a nice offer though. As long as she wanted she could go with him? Belle hardly believed he meant it really. He was just being nice, that's all. But she wouldn't stay with him forever. It wouldn't be right for him to keep paying for her. She might have some coins in her pocket...but it was doubtful. She hadn't intended on buying anything. She had also intended on being back in a few hours.
"I guess we made it just in time" She says in a friendly tone. In a minute she'd be on a train. She hoped it wouldn't make her sick. But she had this rectangular thing to play with. And company to talk to, so she would probably not even think of that.

The train arrives just as he comes near the platform. Subaru waits patiently for the train to come to a stop and open its doors, checking around that Belle is still with him and not lost in the crowd. Walking onto the train, he is glad that there are many empty seats for them to sit on. Ambling down the aisle, Subaru takes the window seat which has two other seats on its side. If Belle does not want to sit right next to him, she can sit on the next next seat. Subaru does not mind.
"We're getting off on the fourth stop," he tells her while flipping open his journal. If two of the Seals are here, there might be others. Instead of finding the journals of other Seals, however, a tiny window curiously popped up, indicating a chat. Still keeping one ear open for Belle, he furrows his brow at his journal.

She looked over at Subaru and his journal. She figured she could watch him and maybe learn how to play with it. “How did you get here?” She remembered he had asked her, and was curious to see if the situation were similar. She hoped the question didn’t bother him, but he didn’t have to answer if he didn’t want to. And he had said they could talk on the train. She didn’t know him very well though so he might have said that to simply stall the conversation at that point. Maybe he had no intention of talking to her. He did seem interested in his journal.
She opened hers to get a closer look. She had never seen such a thing, but there were a lot of buttons calling her name. She glanced at her companion to see if he was going to answer her or not. She didn’t want to seem rude, by asking a question and then not looking interested in the answer. She was interested. But there were so many things going on at once, she didn’t want to miss any of it. She wanted to be able to give every detail of the place to her friends at home. If she ever saw them again. Of course she would see them again, she thought. It was only a matter of time. She hadn't been gone long enough to think negatively, and so pushed those thoughts away. She focused instead on her environment.

"Tokyo is not my hometown," he tells her, looking out the window to avoid her gaze. It might be impolite, but he cannot stand looking back into the eyes of anyone anymore. Kyoto is his hometown, but it is actually Tokyo that he regards as home. There used to be Hokuto there, and Seishiro, and the two of them were what home is in Subaru's mind, "but I love Tokyo."
He wonders how he can love a city that has taken everything away from him. It was in Tokyo that he was branded as the victim of the Sakurazukamori. It was in Tokyo that he met Seishiro, who stole him away. It was Tokyo that took away his twin sister from him. Subaru smiles bitterly, "Because, no matter how ugly and dirty it is, or how deadly and sinful... Tokyo is beautiful." He remembers saying those very words nine years ago.
"Tell me about your home," he finally turns to her and manages a smile, although it does not reach his eyes. Subaru has never been anywhere other than Tokyo and Kyoto in his life, and he probably never will, so it would be nice to hear stories of places out there.
no subject
She looked at him as he spoke. He looked sad. She felt bad for having brought up painful memories, though she wasn’t sure how she did that. And she really did want to hear more about Tokyo. But it had been clear that he wanted to move on, so she didn’t press the issue.
“I actually moved recently.” She still didn’t quite trust him enough to tell him about the palace. His mood changed way too often. “But the town I lived in was very small. Everyone knew everybody’s business. They were nice enough, but my father and I weren’t exactly the favorites. At least not by anyone worth being noticed by. No one liked that I read a lot. And my father is a fantastic inventor. But the town thought he was a bit...eccentric.” What did that town know anyway? No one appreciated her father for what he really was.
“The bookkeeper was the nicest though. He let me borrow a new book everyday. He even let me keep one” She hoped she didn’t bore him. Her story was much more interesting than that. But she had been warned that there were dangerous people here. And to let anyone know she was a princess screamed bad idea. She could tell he wasn’t giving her every detail of his life, so she didn’t see the need to tell him everything. They weren’t friends yet. If they ever got to know each other better she’d tell him the whole story she thought.
no subject
Subaru nods patiently as Belle tells him the story of her father and her hometown and the nice bookkeeper. He is interested in her story; he is interested in any story that concerns the world other than Tokyo and Kyoto. It's not that he dislikes Tokyo or Kyoto, but he wants to see other places too even though he knows he could never. Subaru waits patiently before asking her, "Where did you move to?" He found it rather suspicious that she has told him a story about a town she lived in instead of one she was living in before she found herself in Paixao. Subaru told her about Tokyo, not Kyoto his original hometown.
Right after he asks the question, Subaru realizes that she probably did not tell him for a reason, and trying to take back what he had said, he shifts uncomfortable and looks away, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, of course."
no subject
If he did believe her, he might have started to act different. She didn’t want that either. But she hadn’t intended on lying to anyone. She wasn’t sure if she should have elaborated more. She didn’t know Subaru. But it hadn’t looked like he would hurt her. “It’s beautiful there. The library is enormous. There are so many books, it’s simply amazing” It had occurred to her that he didn’t want to hear about books, he might be bored by that topic. “There are a lot of rooms of course, with a lot of artwork on the walls. You could just stare at some of them all day”
She wasn’t describing it as well as she could have. But she wasn’t entirely sure of how much he had actually listened to her talk. There wasn’t much point in going on about it if he had only been pretending to care. It was so hard to tell.

The Sumeragis are supposed to be the personal guardians of the Emperor, but it seems that common people need his help more than the Emperor does. He has never been called on by the Emperor even once. He cannot help but wonder if the Emperor has been calling on the help of the Sakurazukamori instead.
"I've never met someone so important before," he comments. Suppose his own grandmother is important as the 12th head of the Sumeragi clan, but she has retired, so it is hard to picture her as more than a figure of authority in his family. At that thought, he is suddenly worried that his grandmother might be frantically looking for him once she discovers that he has not been answering her daily phone calls. "This him you speak of, he will worry once he discovers that you're gone, won't he?"
no subject
What if she could never get back to him? She didn’t even know how she got here exactly. And she had been very happy at home. She didn’t want to leave there. She hoped no one thought she ran away. That would be ridiculous though. She would never do something like that. But she could hope that maybe someone from home would find their way here. It was something to hold on to.
“But I suppose if I made it here someone from home might too.” She adds with a smile. Belle tried to stay positive. It’s what her favorite characters would have done. And he had already looked upset about something. She didn’t want him to worry over her too.
no subject
"Some people from my home are here," he says in agreement to her theory, "maybe someone from yours is here too." Subaru lets himself wallow in his own despair, but he hates dragging another person down with him. The Lady Sumeragi, his grandmother, said that Hokuto was barely herself those days when he would not speak; those days before her death. He hates making others sad. If he could, Subaru would take up everyone's sufferings so that only he himself suffers and nobody else. He really would.
Subaru gives Belle a smile, a barrier to keep her away from his dark thoughts, so that she will only see the smile and not Subaru hiding behind it. "We get off here," he tells Belle, noticing that they have arrived at Paixao Central Station. "There are three eating places to choose from..." he trails off, flippin open his journal to check the names again, "Porfavore's, Cafe Ersesat and this hotel called Actua Are. Pick one, randomly is alright too." Subaru is never good at making choices anyway, he usually just lets himself wander off and go into the nearest restaurant.

And now she would get to see what this city was like. She hoped it wasn’t too big or crowded. She expected it would be. Maybe that was good after all, she thought. She wouldn’t stand out as much. She would just have to get used to it. She had read about cities, but she had never visited one. She had no need to. But now she would see one. Wait til she told Beast about it! He would listen to her rattle on about it. Maybe she could find a library. If she was going to be there for awhile it would make sense to find such a place.
“Hopefully it will have food that we like.” She smiled. Some people were quite picky when it came to food. It didn’t matter too much to her. She would likely order the least expensive item anyhow. She was used to eating wonderfully at the castle. But being here is like being in town again. I have no money and everyone thinks I’m strange, she thought to herself. But that was ok, she didn’t mind. She wasn’t exactly alone. And she started to get a bit more excited. She couldn’t wait to walk around, just to see what the place was like.

Subaru wonders if he can ever go back to Tokyo, or if he actually wants to go back. Sometimes, he feels like escaping from his obligations as an onmyouji and pursue his own dream. He knows that if he does not get back to Tokyo for the prophecy in 1999, the world as they know it might end, but Subaru does not care anyway. He does not care at all. He needs to go after Seishiro, however... but that thought is for later. For now, he will get food and go to Yuzuriha. He will think of other things once he takes care of his whining stomach.
