Mission Probable! [active]

Character(s): Ashe, Dias Flac, Isaac, Phoenix Wright, Toshiro Hojo, Yaten Kou, Miles Edgeworth
Content: The severely mismatched group rescuing Cloud, Maya, and Zack
Setting: Fortress of Darkness (2L)
Time: Friday late night
Warnings: none so far.

The ride on the buggy had been much too bumpy for her comfort, but she manages to utter no word of complaint through the journey; which they all should applaud her for. Rubbing her bottom while trying to make sure no one notices, Ashe looks around at her current companions. There is only one word that can truly describe the group: mismatched. Chuckling to herself, she tries to remember all their names once again.

There is the tall blue-haired man named Dias Flac and the tiny silver-haired woman standing beside Dias is Yaten Kou. The two seemingly-sophisticated men are Miles Edgeworth and Phoenix Wright; Mr. Wright's hair is able to defy gravity while Mr. Edgeworth's is not able to. And then, in the middle of them there is the kidnapper. They had to explain a lot to her when they first met; about why Cid is not coming and why the kidnapper is with them, but she figures that asking too many questions would annoy them. And then she had to explain about Isaac. She ended up telling them that Isaac was lonely and she figured that it would be nice to take him along as he seems powerful anyway, skipping the violence altogether.

A realization snaps her out of her reverie, and she clears her throat before speaking, "So, I suppose we should go into the Fortress now? I recall reading Zack's entry where he ranted about how hungry he was," she skipped the part about having a tail, hoping that they would not be expecting her to fix that.

Dias watched Hojo's transformation with, it had to be said, far less surprise than it really should have justified. It wasn't that he'd expected anything like this, especially from such an utterly unassuming man(kidnapper or otherwise); just that he'd actually seen cases like these before, on Expel, with increasing frequency after the Sorcery Globe had landed on their world. The bandit who had been the mastermind of the kidnapping of the children of Mars village had changed into a monstrous, snakelike beast when he'd revealed his true colors - this wasn't so different.

Of course, Dias had always associated such unnatural occurrences with the Sorcery Globe...and unless Paixao had its own Sorcery Globe, that such things were happenining even here was more than a little unsettling.

The unexpected, echoing roar of what sounded like a small explosion just behind him, of course, shortened his life expectancy considerably even if the sight of Hojo's transformation hadn't. And in the second in which he'd spun to ascertain the source of the sound - that strange weapon Miles was holding was smoking slightly, Dias could only assume that had been it, he was going to have to inquire about that very shortly - the creature that had been Hojo vanished. He only figured out where it had gone by seeing Riku leap up into a small hole nearby, presumably in pursuit.

Dias wasn't fool enough to follow them, at least not by that way; the passage was far too narrow for him to use his sword to any great effect, which would leave him more or less defenseless. Fortunately, there were other options; presumably that passage led somewhere, and with Riku blocking the creature's retreat in one direction, that meant Hojo would be following this hallway further down. Of course, if the passage branched off from the hallway somewhere Dias was kind of screwed, but there was no use in that kind of thinking. He really didn't have any other options...and he had no intention of letting the beast get away. So he set off down the hallway in a flat run, listening for sounds above him that would give any hints as to where in the duct Hojo and Riku were, sword still held at his side. Rather than anxious, he felt strangely exhilarated; the confusion he'd been feeling ever since he'd arrived in Paixao had melted away. This was simple, straightforward; this he understood.

The duct wasn't even imbedded in the wall, so there were loud bang sounds just about every time anyone moved, along with scraping that could only be Hojo's claws.

The duct was small and cramped. Hojo nearly couldn't stand up at all; he was crouched, his good hand pressed to the sheet metal "floor," wounded arm drawn up uselessly. When Riku entered after him the once-scientist growled, turning around rather awkwardly in the tiny duct, and hissed again, black goo dripping from his fangs. He stomped one of his feet and the grate he'd been approaching dislodged and fell to the floor below with a clatter.

Now that he had an escape route, should he need one, Hojo launched himself at Riku, swiping with those obscenely long claws of his. His secondary eyelids had slid away; while they hid the glow of his eyes, they DID hamper his vision somewhat, and that was no good during a fight.

Riku jumped back to dodge the claws, swinging up with Soul Eater simultaneously so that the rat-man's nasty set of weapons caught on the blade with a screech like squeaky chalk.

Wincing at the sound, Riku spun and kicked, hoping to knock Hojo back enough for him to get in a blow of his own. He considered using one of his Dark moves, but he needed room for those. So unless he wanted to cause both of them to go deaf, blowing the ventilation system to smithereens at the same time, this was what he would be stuck with.

Well, that was fine. It would take longer, but Riku was confident in his abilities.

Hojo screeched at the squeaky claws-on-metal sound, the noise reverberating almost painfully in the metal corridor of the ventalation shaft. He scrambled backwards then, narrowly avoiding the kick but ending up on the edge of the hole he'd made instead.

If Hojo had been in his right mind, he would have realized that staying in the vent would have been the best thing to do, strategy-wise. He was much more well-equipped to fight in such close quarters, moreso than Riku was, and staying there kept him away from potential dangers in the hall.

He was not in his right mind, however. All his animalistic brain noticed was pain and danger, and that the immediate source of both was the silver-haired boy in front of him. Hojo whirled around again, dropping out of the open grate.

Healer covered her ears with gloved hands, looking up. Okay, so the rat-phage monster was up in the vents. Well, that was fine.

What wasn't fine was the rat-phage monster FALLING ON HER. It didn't take a genius to figure out that she was now on the floor, but the close quarters gave her practically point-blank firing range.

"STARSENSETIVEINFERNO!!!" Healer belted out as fast as she could. Energy raced from all points in her, she could feel the familiar rush of it through her, exiting as force, crackling and powerful, from her hand.

Of course, there was one thing about that attack.

It was meant to be used from a distance.

Ow.

That kind of hurt. The force of the attack had pressed Healer further against the ground.

That was pure genius, Healer, she chided herself. Ow.

[identity profile] walking-complex.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
The attack sent Hojo nearly back up into the air vent. He slammed into the ceiling from the force of it, falling hard to the ground and smoking slightly.

The rat-creature made a series of short click-cough sounds as he figured out what exactly had happened. His arm was in more pain than ever and now his whole body ached... shaking his head, he got to his feet, blinking several times with his secondary eyelids. When he'd figured out exactly WHO had attacked him, however, he launched himself at Yaten, fangs bared, acid dripping from his teeth.

The incredible banging inside the duct was loud enough, even from outside, that it was hard to believe that only two people - well, one person and one thing - were inside it. Dias had no trouble following them down the hallway; in fact, he preceded them, so that when the grating - and then the creature, moments later - crashed to the floor, it was behind him.

When he spun around, he'd expected to see the creature crouched there on the floor. What he had not expected to see was the diminuitive man woman person who'd accompanied them flat underneath it. Hell, he hadn't even known sh - he - WHOEVER it was had been following him, and it looked as though Hojo had landed right on top of them.

Of course, this apparently had not been a good move on Hojo's part, as the mage then cast a spell that sent him flying right up to hit the ceiling before he fell back, smoking, to earth. Even Dias, who generally disdained Heraldry and magic in favor of swordsmanship and actual combat skills, almost whistled under his breath.

Unfortunately, the creature recovered fairly quickly and launched himself at the still-prone mage, which more or less signaled that it was time for Dias to step in.

Conscious thought stopped entering into the equation at that point as Dias allowed instinct to take over again. Fortunately, the Hojo creature was turned away from him, so Dias was able to move up to his back unopposed. Two long strides brought him close enough for his free hand to lash out, fingers curling themselves in the creature's long black hair; one quick twist was enough to wrap quite a large section of it around his hand, and from there all it took was one heavy yank downwards to haul the creature off-balance and get its attention. Meanwhile, Dias lashed out with one boot, driving his foot into the back of the beast's nearest leg and buckling it so that a second rough tug on the thing's hair was enough to throw it flat on the floor. That gave Dias more than enough time to shake his hand free and put himself between the mage and the monster.

If there was one thing he doubted had changed since he'd left Expel and arrived on Paixao, it was that mages were pretty damned useless at close range. He might not be friends with the mage, probably didn't even need her (or his; he could have SWORN it was a man on the drive to this place, but it didn't look like a man now so he was understandably bemused on this point) help dispatching this demon, but there was no benefit whatsoever to letting her get killed.

Healer got to her feet surprisingly swiftly- being on her back was as good as death, she knew that much. She wobbled a little- damnit all, she was getting drained- but remained standing, ignoring the stings of pain on her body.

She braced for that ugly-looking hit, silently calling her power forth to take the chance to attack. She blinked at Dias's interruption...

And then she caught sight of the claws. Oh, god. The claws. Healer fought off a wave of nausea, breathing coming in small, terrified gasps. There was something like a hand tightening in her chest, and her eyes widened considerably. She took a step back- two- three.

Oh, shit.

She failed to mention her fear of needles to anyone. Mainly because she never expected to encounter it. Ever. Or anything that set it off.

Bad move on her part. Bad, bad move.

She continued stepping away, swallowing to try preventing herself from throwing up whatever the hell she had eaten last. Not good.

Fuckrabbits. She was shaking, trying to logic herself out of it-- it wasn't even a real needle!-- but it did no good.

She was highly tempted to run and get the fuck out of Dodge before she vomited or screamed, but her legs seemed glued to the spot she was at.

Not. Good.

Perhaps knowing somewhat of what it was up against, the monster ran away rather than be trapped in the vents with Riku. And from the sound of it, it had run away in the wrong direction.

It seemed the battle was quickly drawing to a close, but Riku figured he would make sure and finish it.

With another roared keop, he fell out of the vent right onto Hojo's head, Dark energy propelling him upwards again to repeat the blow with Soul Eater over and over and over again.

When the scientist-turned-rat-monster was flat on the floor, no longer moving, Riku finally drifted down to his feet.

"Time to get rid of this place," he said, resting Soul Eater on his shoulder nonchallantly as he began to swagger back toward the stairs.

The transformation melted away once Hojo was unconscious on the floor; his body couldn't keep up the change if there was no adrenaline to feed it. The darkness seemed to withdraw as well; he was still a disgustingly dark being, but it no longer controlled his actions to the same extent. Now he was just an unconscious, skinny scientist, bleeding at the shoulder, burned, and bruised in more places than he could count.

He was going to hurt when he woke up.

Healer fell on her ass, staring at the figure that took the rat-monster out. "...Gods," she said when she'd finally found her voice, following him with her eyes. "What are you?" She changed back, seeing no further need to burn energy like that.

He eyed Dias, thinking. Evil ratmonster with those- those claws. "Let's go se... see if we can help any with freeing the people..." his voice was quiet- small, even, as he struggled to his feet. He put a hand to his forehead, wobbling. The world needed to stop spinning, and soon.

Yaten followed the other white-haired figure, finding a random and amusing fact to wrap his mind around- anything to distract him from shuddering about those /claws/.

That's special. I haven't met anyone else with white hair...

"What are you?"

Great. Just the question he'd been waiting for.
Well, at least Sora hadn't been the one to ask it.

"I'm Riku," he replied simply without turning around.
The rest was none of their business.

He remained silent as the other two followed him to the lab (http://community.livejournal.com/paixaorpg/81608.html), dragging the skinny man's unconscious body along behind them.
