I've been searching through the dark [active/open]
Character(s): Zidane, open to anyone
Content: Zidane's finally come to terms that his girlfriend and brother are probably gone-gone, and searches through rubble.
Setting: Around Joutenheim Gate, outside then back in.
Time: Week 42, late evening, a day or two after the collapse
Note: Could be taken as a narrative if no one bugs him, which is fine XD
Zidane weaved from group to group, though he had grown tired, having been at it most of the day. "Hey, have you seen -" had been his opening to any conversation as he pulled citizens aside, describing the two from his worlds that he had hoped were still safe and sound but... Well, he hadn't heard anything from them before the collapse, let alone after.
No, it had seemed that his girlfriend and his brother were long gone. Kuja, yeah, maybe that was for the best, but Dagger... Dammit, come on, Paixao! That just wasn't fair. Frustrated, Zidane kicked at the ground, throwing his head back and letting out a yell, startling away the small cluster of wary citizens that he had just asked.
Sometimes, he really hated this city. And there wasn't even much of a city left to hate!
He glanced back towards the still-standing gate, the two giants holding up strong despite the domes' ceiling that came around them. Zidane should take something from that. Not everything was destroyed, after all.
He sighed and headed through the grass towards the gate and gave it a thump with his fist. "If you guys can stay strong, then so can I, eh?" He moved over rubble, pulling free a piece of wood and giving it a thoughtful look. The more he moved into the ghost of a city, the darker it was; staying in the fields would be wise, but he hated sitting around idle. With some searching and some effort, he was able to fashion the piece of wood into a workable torch, and the proceeded to move along the rubble in search of... well, anything or anyone.

And now it was gone. The fragile sense of what had almost been happiness had been completely and utterly crushed, leaving her and countless others with nowhere to go. She wasn't sure whether to cry, scream, or stare blankly at the wall and mutter nonsense so people would leave her alone. But upon hearing the young man's statement, Alice stood, brushing off her pantsuit. "I must admit that's a rather helpful way of looking at things," she told him, "especially given the circumstances."

"Gotta stay optimistic, right? Else what'll that make us? I don't want to be like the citizens." They seemed like they were varying degrees of being a mess.

Changing the subject, the Londoner shrugged. "I suppose that all things considered, this place is still much better than the world I left. But what will happen now, I wonder?"
no subject
He jumped up on a pile of debris and walked along a beam of wood, one foot in front of the other, tail arched behind him and keeping him well-balanced. After a moment, he added quietly, "Wonder what the Organization thinks of this. It doesn't seem like their kind of scheme..."
no subject
"The Organization," she murmured, tearing her eyes away at last. "I've heard of them. Aren't they the ones who are doing something with hearts? But if not them, then who else could be doing this?"
no subject
"The Organization like poking around at peoples' hearts; not sure what exactly they gain from it though." What did they gain from him? "But aside from them, there's enough hotheaded villains in this city to get bored and kick things over." He glanced over towards her. "I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened sooner."
no subject
Still, even with the danger, she much preferred this place to London, and would gladly stay here, even now.

Zidane paused his walking to cringe.
"You saw those, huh?" Well, of course. Who didn't? He almost didn't want to give her his name now.
no subject
"Of course I saw them," came the reply, Alice turning her attention to the subject of the odd report. "It was, after all, laid out for everyone to see. It would have been foolish of me not to pay attention to it."
no subject
"Yeah, I guess it was." He rubbed at his head. "I don't know, I think it'd be nice if some people just glazed over it. Dumb, I know."
His torchlight caught a glint of... something beneath the rubble. He crouched down and dug around until his other hand pulled out a pocket watch. He would've thought it was quite a fine find if his mind didn't remind him that he was probably stealing from the dead. Annoyed with himself, he tossed it aside and turned to jump down in front of Alice, head held high.
Eh, it was rude to not give a name. He might as well get it over with.
"Name's Zidane Tribal. Or Experiment number 6, but I prefer Zidane."

"Alice Liddell." She didn't bother with niceties at the moment; she was far too tired and sore and impatient. Still, she couldn't say it was unpleasant to meet someone who wasn't a citizen of this place, what with the way they'd been glaring non-stop at her and the others.
*it's okay, has to do the same*
"Nice to meet you, Alice." He grinned. It's okay, Zidane can make up the niceties for the two of them. "Hey - there's two people I've been trying to find. You wouldn't happen to have seen them? One's about my height, her name's Garnet. Or Dagger. Comes up to about here," he holds a hand out at his eye-level. "Long dark hair. Very polite. Probably worried about me." He chuckled, but some of his own worry was starting to show through.
"The other..." He scratched at his chin, trying to think. "Probably my height. Silver hair. Dresses kind of... airily... Might mistake him for a girl. Kind of pretentious. Probably also doesn't care a damn about me. His name's Kuja."
He snorted.
Oh, siblings.

"I... hope you do find them," she continued, the words sounding strange to her. She wasn't used to being concerned for others. Perhaps this city had done her some good, after all.
lemme know if I should change anything haha
Hell, he barely even could keep track of if it was "morning" or "night" anymore, or how many days it had been since the collapse.
Jeez.
What a mess.
He turned away and started to head in a random direction, not to get away from her or anything, but just in a wandering, antsy mood. But he drew up to a quick halt after a few steps, stumbling and almost dropping his makeshift torch.
"What - but that -" His light flickered over changes that he knew weren't there the last time he'd been over the area. The crystal-like trees from Macalania Woods and the Spira floor had taken over, their roots curling in and around rubble as though they had been there since before the domes' collapse. For one quick, terrifying moment, he was reminded of the Crystal World.
"Where the heck did this come from?"
He waved his torchlight to try and see farther, but it was hopeless. He glanced over his shoulder at Alice, perplexed.
/ALIVE AGAIN
"Perhaps we should investigate," she suggested presently, a hand on the knife she kept attached to her belt. "There must be a reason for it."
no subject
"I recognize it from another floor," he told her, frowning at the tree formation. "But why is it down here? It's not even something from the floor above..."
At her suggestion, his tail twitched as his whole body seemed to perk and he beamed. He liked the idea of investigating. "Alice? I think you and I will be good friends. I like the way you think."
no subject
She almost smiled, then, at the compliment, and nodded. "Well, then, shall we?"
