In a world inhabited by Gods themselves, Timon could not have felt more powerless. Had he only a drop of their strength he could easily have cast aside the rock that kept them both prisoner. Still, he remained ever persistent, equally as stubborn as the cement itself. Sore muscles were nothing in comparison to the pain of defeat. He had lost his mother once; he would not lose her again. Determined to reach her, the meerkat hissed and wedged deeper between the rocks. He continued to do so, straining his body in an effort to use every last ounce of strength he had left.
Ma’s voice brought a moment comfort to her son before her words reached his ears. He became still.
“Wha- What?” Timon gasped. “No. No, no, no! What are you- No!” Refusing to believe the reality of their situation, he desperately tried to move the rock in a final plea. “No, not you too.” Timon begged, faced with a decision he was not prepared to make. “Please.” His fingers grazed hers, his voice a mere whisper. “Please.” She had been the only one who had ever believed him. For her to stop then, to lose hope…
A loud rumble interrupted his thoughts while the earth around them began to violently shake. Another piece of the dome had fallen, this time just shy of Timon. It grazed the cement that the meerkat had been trying to lift, shaving it down just enough for him to slip through and to his mother. Immediately, he pulled her into his embrace in one last attempt to save the meerkat from the rubble that fell on top of them.
