A Difficult Conversation [Completed]

Content: Aqua tells Terra stuff. :(

It was never that Aqua didn't want to tell Terra and Ven about what happened. She had known she wouldn't be able to keep what had happened in the Keyblade Graveyard secret forever. She had been starting to ponder how to tell them, but the post to the message board... She hadn't been thinking when she said Xehanort's name. Of course it had gotten Terra's attention.

Aqua didn't think she could stay silent any longer, although she wasn't sure still where to even start. How could she tell Terra what he'd become? What had happened to Ven? And herself? She had little choice now. It had to be done. She would have to tell Ven all these things too, but first she needed to tell Terra. They affected him the most, so he deserved to know first. Hopefully then they could tell Ven together.

She hoped they would both understand why she'd been silent and forgive her.

Going to Terra's bedroom door, she softly knocked on the door.

Terra knew this wasn't going to be a pleasant conversation. Something was up, it had to be. Why else would Aqua be reacting like that? It wasn't like Terra didn't know what Master Xehanort was doing, what Xehanort had done.

Terra was jolted out of his thought process by a soft knock on his door. "It's open," He replied, knowing that it had to be Aqua. He steeled himself for whatever was coming next.

At his words, she quietly opened the door, slipping it into the room, softly clong it again behind her. She paused a moment there, taking a breath in and out, trying to calm herself. It took a moment before she turned to look at him.

"You and Ven were right," she began. "I was keeping something from you both. I wanted to tell you, but..."

"But... you were afraid of how we would take it." Terra finished for her. It's that how it always was when one of them was hiding something from the other.

"Yes," she admitted. "But also I wasn't sure if I should... you see I--No, I should probably start at the beginning, should I?"

It was more than obvious how difficult this was for her. Not just because of the reasons she'd given, but for herself. It wasn't an event she liked remembering, for good reason.

"It was all Xehanort. He lured Ven and you to the Keyblade Graveyard. Vanitas forced Ven to fight him, to create some kind of keyblade. I thought Ven had won, but Vanitas had taken over Ven's body. Mickey and I stopped Vanitas, but Ven... last I saw him he was alive, but his heart... it's left his body. Until it returns..."

She trailed off, allowing Terra to take in that much.

"Until it returns...?"

He was supposed to have protected Ven, but, it seemed he had ultimately failed in that regard. Maybe there would be a way to prevent it, or get Ven's heart back, but the sting of knowing he had failed to protect the things that mattered most to him wasn't about to fade soon.

Aqua gave a sad nod. "We don't know where it went, so there isn't much we can do."

This was only half the story, of course, so Aqua kept going.

"That... wasn't all that happened there. You'd gone after Xehanort during all that. I... don't know exactly what happened. I was knocked out. When I woke up, Ven and I were at the Mysterious Tower," Aqua continued to explain, avoiding his gaze by this point. "I went looking for you and... I thought I'd found you, but..."

She paused, as her voice was already starting to crack a little. This was the hard part and what she'd dreaded the most. It took more than a few moments to push the words out. "But it wasn't you. It was Xehanort. He'd taken over your body."

There was no reply from Terra this time. Only a look of complete and utter shock.

Aqua's words echoed in his head as he tried to make sense out of what she had said. He'd taken over your body. He wanted to dismiss it, to tell her that she was wrong, she had to be. But... Aqua wouldn't lie about something like this, what she was saying had to be the truth. The horrible awful truth.

She hadn't expected Terra to say anything. What could he really say? With that said, it as a little easier to continue, though her voice was shaking.

"I tried to fight him, but he used the keyblade on himself and it created a portal into the realm of darkness. He fell in, so I went after him--you. I couldn't save us both, so using my armour and keyblade, I sent you back to the realm of light."

Hesitantly, Aqua glanced at Terra out of the corner of her eyes.

"And... what happened to you?" He asked, hesitantly.

"I wandered countless hours through the unending darkness, until I met a man. He had come there recently from the realm of light," Aqua continued, quietly. "He said the worlds had been in danger, but had been saved by a boy--Sora. It wasn't too long after that, that I found my way here. I'd been in the realm of darkness over ten years."

"T-ten years? Aqua..." He wasn't sure what to say to that, how to deal with the added guilt of trapping Aqua in the realm of darkness for a decade.

"What does...? What does this place...?"

"I was okay," she said, finally looking at him, forcing a faint smile. As always, Aqua was showing a strong face, even though she was hurting inside.

"Have... you learned anything yet about the Heartless and the Nobodies?" she wasn't sure if he had learned about them yet.

Terra knew that Aqua was putting on a brave face for him. That hurt almost more than her showing how much she hurt.

"No, I don't think so."

"The Heartless are born from the darkness in someone's heart and when a Heartless is made, a Nobody is too," she explained, from what she had learned from Riku and Sora.

"Xehanort gave himself to the darkness, creating two halfs, who both are here. The Heartless goes by Ansem, and his Nobody..."

She paused to swallow, closing her eyes, looking away from him. "Is Xemnas."

"Ansem?" Terra very nearly looked sick now.

That man he ran into during the snowstorm, the one who was so oddly familiar and that disturbed him to his very core. Now he knew why.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, seeing the look on his face. "I'm so, so sorry, Terra."

This is why she hadn't wanted to tell him, much less Ven. To see that look on his face. For Aqua, this hurt beyond measure and now everything was far worse than she'd thought.

"This is all my fault! I'd wanted to save you, but instead..." she trailed off, her facade cracking apart now. She looked like she had the weight of the universe on her shoulders now. What if it was true? What if the worlds had become unraveled, thanks to Xemnas? She saved HIM, not Terra, in the end. She helped him back to the realm of light to cause all this. She might've doomed everything and everyone.

"No, I'm the one who should be sorry, it's not your fault. You're not the one who was stupid enough to play right into his hands." Terra replied, he couldn't bear to look her in the eyes. He was ashamed to be the one to have caused all this.

"I should have never listened to that man."

"I helped him back into the Realm of Light, Terra! But, I wasn't tricked into doing it; I made that choice myself without even thinking about the consequences I have a part in this as much as you do," she said, not about to let him take all the blame. He did make a terrible mistake listening to Xehanort and did letting the darkness in, but... "I had a lot of time to think about things; to think about what had happened and what we could have done differently. I realized that were all fooled by him, even the Master, right from the very start. Even if we had done things different... would it have made enough of a difference, in the end?"

"What's... What's done is done, Aqua," Terra said, they couldn't sit here and argue over who was to blame, no, there were more important things to worry about. "We just have to focus on the now, focus on stopping Ansem and Xemnas now."

Maybe if they did that they could make up for their mistakes.

"What do they have to do with this castle, Aqua?"

Aqua blinked, looking back at Terra, a bit surprised to hear him say that, but she gave a firm nod to his words. He was right. There wasn't any reason to dwell on it now. Now they had to stop Xemnas. "Yes... right."

"Well, I don't think Ansem has anything really to do with it," she said, since, as far as she knew, he didn't. "It's Xemnas. Apparently he's the one who runs the Organization and they seem to be in control of this castle."

Well, someone had to say it.

"The Organization? What are they after?" The large scale kidnapping spree they had gone on didn't really seem to factor into what had been revealed on the message board.

"I wish I knew, but I don't know," Aqua replied, wishing she had more answers to give him. "I'm not sure anyone is really sure, though I heard they had conducted some kind of experiments."

She didn't know a whole lot about them either, but she had at least learned a little from some of the recent leaked posts. "It sounded like they were experimenting in light and darkness."

"So business as usual from Xehanort?" Terra was mostly referring to the light and darkness and what he had done to Ventus.

"Maybe... but maybe not," she said, looking rather grim. She wished it could be that simple, but she feared it was far more complicated, thinking of the post that had led them to be having this conversation.

"The heart of all worlds... the worlds unraveling... Kingdom Hearts," Aqua spoke quietly. "What has he done..."

Terra didn't know what to say, what was there to say?

"What what do you think we should do?" They should stop Xehanort, that's what he would do, but Aqua was better at planing these things than he was.

Aqua looked thoughtful. Stopping Xehanort was the obvious answer, but even that was not so simple. There were so many questions and just no answers. While enough seemed concerned about what was going on, many seemed to be content to linger in the city.

"We need to find out what's really going on and try to convince everyone else that they don't want to stay here," she finally concluded.

Terra nodded in agreement.

"That...sounds like a plan, Aqua." It wasn't going to be easy, he knew that, but when were these things ever easy.
