Basement-Child vs Crowds, GO! [Open/Active]
Character(s): Flandre Scarlet, Anyone
Content: Flan arrives in Paixao...and promptly freaks out.
Setting: Vanaheim Gate
Time: early night
Warnings: Explosions, social-fail and possibly tl;dr
Why was she outside? Flandre thought to herself. She'd never been allowed outside of the basement before, and even on her few trips outside she didn't remember Gensokyo looking so...un-forest-like. Not only that, but there were humans just in front of her, standing in some sort of line.
...Humans. NOT youkai! Not fairies, or kappas, or demons, or even ghosts! Humans! ..How long had it been since she'd seen a human other than her maid, Sakuya? .....How long had it been since she'd seen more that literally two people at a time?
After another moment of thought, she decided it honestly didn't matter.
Wasting no more time, Flandre stepped towards the line, pulling at a woman's skirt insistently. "Hey! Tell me where the mansion went! And-- and why are there so many humans here?" She asked, a note of distaste at the last part of her question. The woman scoffed down at her, yanking her skirt out of her grip and staring pointedly ahead of her.
"I wanna know where my big sister went!" She snapped petulantly, stomping her foot for good measure. The woman ignored her. Lifting off the ground, Flandre was able to see some sort of-- place-- ahead. And while it obviously wasn't Scarlet Devil Mansion, or even anywhere in Gensokyo(At least, she assumed it wasn't), it seemed a good a place as any to start getting to the bottom of this bizarre... Everything.
The line of people only parted as Flandre shoved through them, gasping their indignance as her wing crystals and feet knocked into them roughly without a thought or concern. Just as she approached the entrance, she stopped, pulling back and tripping some of the humans over in the process. Above her a strange painted moon glided softly across the...roof?!
A hard squint into the distance confirmed that it was indeed a roof, one that spanned farther than what she could make out from the entrance.
Curiosity now seized, she floated up and placed her small hand on the moon's surface. THe material feeling cool and smooth under her fingers. She wondered, briefly, if she could break it from the ceiling entirely? To take the beautiful, tiny moon for herself?
Fortunately, the sounds of the people before recaptured her attention a moment later. Flandre's eyes flicked downwards and scanned the tops of the human heads, searching for anything, anyone familiar.
No. Remilia wasn't here. Just....Humans.
A small twinge of dread shot through her then. What if she couldn't find her sister? What if she was lost?
Flandre flew quickly back to the ground, glancing around her anxiously. This was ridiculous! Remilia HAD to be here; she was ALWAYS somewhere Flandre could find her. It wasn't a big deal. There were just buildings and humans in the way was all, blocking her path to her sister. All she had to do was obliterate the place to ashes and then she'd find Remilia easily. It would be simple.
However, even as the burning crackle of destructive magic began to charge in her hands, her line of thought was again interrupted.
"Hey!" A voice shouted from the gate, a man at the desk there waving a little shiny box at her. The magic quickly dissipated from her palms as Flandre flew back over to investigate.
"What is it?" she asked the man, taking the box and looking it over. The thing was certainly as odd as everything else here.
The man rolled his eyes, ignoring her question, "Name?"
A note of irritation crept into her voice, "Shouldn't you give me yours before I give you mine?" Flandre shot back, making it no secret she found him very rude. After it seemed obvious that the beginnings of a staring contest were unfolding the man frowned and gestured at the waiting people in line.
"I don't have all night. Name?"
She scoffed, glaring into his blues eyes then grudgingly bit out, "Flandre Scarlet. Younger sister of Remilia Scarlet... Now where is our Mansion?!"
Her only reply was a pamphlet shoved towards her and a waving gesture for her to move along. Now that was very rude! With a growl, Flandre sent a single bullet of magic down into the tiled floor, red energy burning a good sized hole in front of the gate.
Needless to say, the humans were terrified, seeming to let out a collective gasp before dart in every direction away from her.
It was just about then that it occurred to Flandre exactly how MANY humans there were in this domed place. Before she had only noticed the ones standing in line, and the few strolling down the street to the various buildings in the walls. But after the sound of her blast, she heard quite a bit more gasping and anxious movements than what she'd ever heard at one time. Probably in her entire life as well. This really was the first time she'd been out of the basement in awhile.
She jerked around, seeing many eyes trained in on her and her alone. At the moment two more things occurred to Flandre. One: that she couldn't stand another second of these countless, wide-eyed creatures. And two: that she had just realized she was missing her wand, Lævateinn; meaning that she was completely unable to produce enough magic to level the awful place.
Her discomfort turning into something not far from fear, Flandre shot up into the air, eyes glowing a bright shade of red. With a parting, vicious hiss, she crashed pasted the line at the gate and out into the crisp night sky.

You are insane for this. He thought to himself before quickly chasing after her, using her flight as a distraction to get himself out of the domes. She wasn't from the city, she couldn't be. Standing in the grass outside the domes, Roderich tried to catch his breath again.
"Miss?" He called out, he couldn't see her around, but she couldn't have gone that far.
no subject
...So what if she lacked the raw power to destroy the city to ashes? In fact, once her sister knew she was missing she'd surely do the job herself for somehow spiriting Flandre off. If she could even find her, that was.
Roderich's words had just reached her ears as several guards began approaching from either side of the dome. Startled by the sudden voices and movement, she shot several bullets of energy at the guards, unconsciously flying away from them, closer to Roderich and the gate.
no subject
"I know you may not want to, but come back inside, it's safer!" He shouted, hoping she would hear him, and keeping the commentary of "Somewhat Safer" to himself. Once inside, with more people around, it might be easier to hide, rather than being the only target out here.
no subject
However, with their numbers continuing closer, they honestly didn't put her in a very playful mood. In fact, it all made her rather tense.
At the shout from behind her, she swung her head over her shoulder, sizing up the man down below. He didn't look anything like the humans coming closer, and that, at least, was enough for Flandre to lower down a bit closer to him. "I'm not going anywhere! Not until I find my sister!" She called out, her voice the epitome of petulant distress.
no subject
"If your sister is here, she's probably inside." He looked back towards the gate, where people were starting to gather and watch the interesting spectacle outside the domes.
"And I can try to help you find her, if she is here." It wouldn't hurt to offer, right? He was a gentleman, and he couldn't just leave her panicked like this.
no subject
"Have-- have you seen her then?" Flandre asked hopefully, landing down next to Roderich. "Her name is Remilia! She's really strong and smart and can do magic like me!"
She stared up at Roderich expectantly, trying to ignore the guards and civilians presence. The idea of going back in the domes didn't sit very well with her, but the chance of seeing her big sister again was too great a relief to pass up. Even if this man was a human, if he was a human who could take her to Remilia then she didn't care one bit.
no subject
"If Remilia is here, we'll find her, ok?" He could at least promise her that much.
no subject
"...Alright." She said softly, deciding Roderich was still her best option at the moment. At least he hadn't acted rude like the other humans she'd seen so far. She glanced at the crowd around the gate entrance, sending them a very pointed glare.
no subject
"Oh, you did get one of these when you entered, right?" He held up his. "They're a good thing to have in this strange place."
no subject
When Roderich pulled out his journal Flandre was reminded of the strange silver thing she'd been clutching this whole time. She blinked and pulled it up curiously, "Oh! You mean this strange box? Why? It doesn't look very important... unless there's something locked up inside it." Her fingers found a small crease in the edge of the device and she tilted her head at it, confused, trying to force it open.
no subject
"So, shall we go back inside? I doubt those people will do anything to you at this point. And I'd rather avoid a confrontation with them," he motioned to the guards behind them, "as long as possible."
no subject
She glanced behind them, remembering the guards now. They didn't look very pleased from her earlier shots at them and seemed to spaced out their approach, as if herding them back inside. Flandre really didn't like them.
"I- I guess so." She mumbled, eying the guards warily. She could easily blow the lot of them away, but... the idea of being cornered and out numbered was a scary thing. She frowned, moving behind Roderich.
no subject
He walked back towards the domes, giving the people at the gate his best 'I am more powerful than you' look, and watching as some parted for him. He may be away from his country, but he wouldn't forget who he was because of it. Stopping on the other side of the gate, away from the other people, he looked down at Flandre.
"Ah, I believe I have been rude. My name is Roderich." He introduced himself, now remembering he had no idea who this girl was.
no subject
Flandre followed after him, thankful that at least some of the humans got out of the way. She was still trying to comprehend how there could be so many of them in one place. She couldn't help but throw the crowd one good eye-glowing glare before they entered back in through the gate.
It was a relief this man seemed so sure of what to do, in a way reminding her of how Remilia carried herself, always appearing calm and collected. Unable to repress a smile, she tilted her head up at him. "I'm Flandre Scarlet." She chirped cheerfully.
no subject
"It is nice to meet you, Flandre." She seemed to be an interesting child...but at the same time, didn't seem like one at all.
"If you don't mind me asking..." He paused, motioning towards the crystal looking things hanging behind Flandre."What are these?"
no subject
She smiled brightly, giving him a small curtsy. "It's nice to meet you as well, Roderich!"
Flandre glanced behind herself, confused for a moment at what he was trying to ask about. "Mmn...You mean my wings?" She stretched one of the strange iron structures out for him to see, the colorful crystals swaying softly. "I made them myself! Aren't they pretty? I can even move them around with magic to make-believe they're real ones." She gave the outstretched wing a gentle flap, proud and excited to show it off. No one ever seemed to like her wings for some reason.
no subject
Although, it did make him wonder. What sort of child was this Flandre? To create something like those wings. He wasn't even sure if any of the countries could do something like this.
no subject
She gave him a curious look, doing a quick circle around him. "Hey... Roderich, can humans fly too? Sakuya never tells me about human villages, so I don't know anything about them except that they have a lot of blood." She asked, landing back down to mull the thought over.
"Oh! Sakuya is my maid." She smiled, realizing he probably didn't know who that was.
no subject
"Come now. Do you drink coffee, tea?" He asked before bringing up the map on his journal, trying to find a better place to talk where they wouldn't be stared at too much.
no subject
Roderich's slip went right over her head, as Flandre was used to people stuttering sometimes when she talked to them. (Though, those times it was usually out of fear.) The idea of this strange place was becoming slightly less horrible as it dawned on her just how much more freedom she had now than in the basement.
"Tea? Of course! I love tea!" She answered, flying up to look over his shoulder. How amazing! The little box even had a map?!
no subject
"Well, there are a couple places we could go to have some, and have a nice conversation." He didn't mention anything about the people still milling around, gossiping about the 'non-citizens' in front of them. He turned to look over his shoulder to look at her.
"What would you like to do?"
no subject
Fortunately for the citizens, she had mostly forgotten their presence at the moment. It was much more exciting to talk to Roderich about flying and tea then deal with their staring numbers. Though... looking down at the map did remind her of something important.
She pouted then, "Are we going to find my sister?" Remilia loved tea as well, and she'd obviously be worried sick about her, too.
no subject
"Well, we can start by posting on the network to see if anyone knows if she's around." He figured by starting there, they would be able to find out if her sister was even in the city at this point. "Then, with that information we can go from there?"
no subject
She considered that for a moment, worrying her bottom lip in the process. She had no idea what a network was, but the general idea got across. "Mmm... that should work! My sister does talk to humans sometimes." It did cross her mind that Remilia might not even BE here at all, but...she stubbornly pushed the thought away.
no subject
"Well then, if she's here and has told anyone her name, then we should find her." Roderich mused. "Most people pay attention to what is posted there."
no subject
"Oh! That won't be a problem then. My sister likes to talk about herself a lot, so she's probably famous!" She chirped, partly happy for the warm inside-air, and also for Roderich's company. It really had been quite some time since she'd met anyone new; more so someone that was so patient.
no subject
"Ah, good. Now, would you like anything to eat or drink?" He asked, pulling out one of the chairs for Flandre so she could sit.
