I’ll Stay Tonight If It’ll Make You Feel Alright [Completed]

Character(s): Woody and Tinkerbell
Content: After finding out Tinkerbell was having a nightmare too, Woody goes to comfort her.
Setting: Sora’s Room
Time: Nighttime
Warnings: Bits of angst and heck of lot of cuteness

A sigh escaped from Woody’s plastic lips, as he got down from the windowsill in the living room. He was staring out that window for a while, it was just moments ago did he wake up from another nightmare. He’s been having too many recently, and it’s been keeping him up all night. If one were to talk to Woody, they could tell he was tired, certainly by the sound of his cracked voice. Though he tried his very best to hide it anyway, he didn’t want anyone worrying about him. After all he still has his reputation and there are those who still might look up to him. If they see him weak or worn, it would create some problems.

Woody made his way back into Sora’s room, trying his best not to wake the kid up if he was still sleeping, he sneaked in ever so slightly. Climbing into the basket, he turned his attention to the rope as he looked up to where Tinkerbell was, and began to pull the rope so the basket would lift itself upward on the pully-system. He called out in a half-whisper up to Tinkerbell, “Hey! Tink! It’s me Woody! I’m comin’ up.”

Her golden glow was visible before anything else, growing in slight intensity right before her head popped up over the side. On the edge of the shelf, she peered down and smiled slightly, lifting her hand in a little wave. Tinkerbell then moved to help lift him up the rest of the way.

He'd really come! She wasn't sure why she thought he wouldn't...maybe because they still didn't know each other very well. And if she were perfectly frank, boys in her life often had a way with forgetting about her existence. This was new territory.

As he joined her on the shelf, she put her hands behind her back and lifted her shoulders up in a slight shrug. "Thanks for coming," she said, an apologetic smile curving her lips.

Her smile faded and she looked away, clearly trying to hide the pain in her eyes without much success. "Oh...yeah." She slowly made her way over to him, hugging herself as she walked, her wings drooping. "It was stupid," she began, scoffing to try to make light of the situation. But still she wouldn't look him in the eye. "I dreamed Peter grow up and...and left me behind. He forgot about me."

She laughed quietly, but even as she lifted her head to smile, tears were in her eyes. "Stupid, huh?"

As Woody spoke, Tinkerbell slowly raised one hand to her heart, listening with her head slightly tilted. Was that what it was like to be a toy? To always watch the children who loved you leave you behind? When he took her hand, she looked down and frowned. Unfortunately, what he said next was not what she wanted to hear.

"What does it matter if he remembers me if we can't be together?" she asked in exasperation, taking her hand away in a huff. Though a part of her knew the wisdom in what he said, the very idea of forever being away from Peter, for real and for true, was too much for her volatile pixie heart right now. She angrily scrubbed away the tears from her eyes. "I'll still be alone!"

She had stormed away from him, back turned, but now she slowly looked over her shoulder to watch him. She was pretty short-sighted and even a little selfish sometimes, but even Tink could see Woody was struggling with his own sadness. Though she couldn't understand his disjointed words, the gist was there -- he was haunted by his own nightmare too, after all.

She paused for a moment but then went to his side again, kneeling at his feet and placing her head on his knee, face in her crossed arms. She still didn't want him to see her cry, so she kept her face hidden. "It w-won't happen..." she agreed through her tears. In her own way, she was trying to comfort him too.

As his arms went around her, she stiffened and nearly pulled away. Anger was always preferable to sorrow; anger and outrage she could deal with, she wouldn't feel weak and lonely like that. But as she noted how gently he hugged her, careful of her wings and tiny form, she slowly relaxed. Tears rolled down her face as she hesitantly returned the hug. It's not like she needed a hug right now, it was for Woody's sake! But then she couldn't stop the next words that came out of her mouth, so quiet and wavery with her tears.

"...I wanna go home."

She blinked, startled at his touch on her face. How could a toy feel so...warm? Or maybe that was just her perception. Either way, at the rush of unexpected feeling, she blinked a few times and stepped away. She smiled slightly to cover up her sudden nervousness. "I...I'm okay now. Sorry you had to see me like that." Tink brushed away the heavy bangs over her eyes, looking back at Woody almost shyly.

"Are you okay? I didn't know toys could dream."

A moment of stillness met Woody's quiet words...and then his hat was pulled over his eyes by Tinkerbell. As she lifted it back up, she pouted as she stared into his eyes, one hand on her hip. "You're not fine, you liar!" she said, the frustration in her voice tempered by her obvious concern. But then she smiled, letting go of his hat to place her hand on his soft shoulder.

"But that's okay. I don't think anyone really is...not after nightmares like that." She turned away and half-skipped, half-flew over to her little make-shift vanity made out of a small compact mirror and a walnut shell. She lifted up a little glass bead the color of bright summer grass before joining Woody again.

"I found this before all the snow started...I kept it because it reminds me of Peter." Tink laughed a little sheepishly, smiling down at it. "Sometimes I take it out and look at it at night, wondering where he is and if he even knows I'm gone." She paused before folding the little bead over her heart, eyes closed. "I think...our true memories of our friends will help keep the nightmares powerless."

Tinkerbell looked down at the delicate string with a smile. This was the second gift she'd been given since she arrived here. She looked up and grinned, eyes sparkling. "It's perfect! Thank you, Woody!" Reaching up to her bun, she pulled the green ribbon that held her hair up. Thick blonde hair tumbled down to her shoulders.

"If you don't mind, I have this..." Almost shyly, she reached down and tied it tightly around Woody's boot. It was simple but hopefully not too girly. Straightening, she brushed her hair from her face and looked away. "S-So now we're friends for life, okay? You better not lose that!"

To Tinkerbell, a pinky swear was a very important pact, not to be taken lightly. That Woody would be willing to go through with one for the sake of her present...she bit her bottom lip and looked up at him with affection in her eyes. "Mm...okay." She held out her tiny hand, wrapping her pinky around his with a smile. "Pinky swear!"

She smiled at her still curled pinky but then looked up in alarm. "W-Wait, you're leaving? Already?" She tried to hide it, but Tink felt a gnawing sense of dread at the idea of spending more time alone. When Woody was here, she didn't feel as frightened. Not that she'd tell him that. But...

"Can you, um...can you stay with me tonight?" She lowered her head and linked her hands behind the small of her back, blushing slightly as she scowled. "W-We should stick together! So the nightmares don't bug us!"

She giggled as she watched his spastic movements -- he was kind of a huge dork but it was in a way that set her at ease and lightened the tension in her heart. As she watched him move to lay down, she stiffened slightly and zoomed close, grabbing his arm. "Not there! You have to stay in my bed with me!" Giving Woody no chance to argue, she dragged him to the music box she'd turned into a bed. It would be slightly too small for the poor cowboy, but unfortunately, the pixie wasn't exactly thinking of his wishes as she shoved him in.

And used as a pillow he was as Tinkerbell squeezed his soft cloth torso closer, resting her head on him. She nodded, pleased at how nice and cozy her bed seemed now. With Woody here, she wasn't alone. And not being alone, she felt safer. "Yeah...thanks, Woody."

Already she was dozing, the emotional turmoil of the night catching up with her.
