Hidden Shadows [Complete]

Character(s): Ansem and Yorda
Content: Ansem takes Geoffrey up on his offer.
Setting: Spira, Macalania Woods
Time: Evening, Week 35
Warnings: BILLY ZANE Ansem.

It had all started with a note. It had been short and terse, and so very much like Mao that she hadn't thought to question it or grow suspicious. The gist of it had been to come to Macalania Woods, quickly, and to not tell anyone where she was going, including Geoffrey. She hadn't needed the warning, being as untrusting of Geoffrey as she was. The girl put on the winter clothes Urd had been thoughtful enough to give her and walked out immediately, packing some travel supplies in a basket in case she or Mao ended up needing them.

It had taken her quite awhile to reach the woods, what with having to be as careful as possible. The Doctor had warned Yorda against going anywhere alone, but Mao needed her. She couldn't just abandon him. Besides, she knew she would be safe with him. At long last, she reached the woods, quiet and deceptively still. The glowing girl couldn't help but breathe a soft sigh of contentment as she looked about herself, lost in the beauty and tranquility of the strange and alluring forest.

She sat down at the base of a tree, resting herself while she waited for Mao to arrive. Knowing him, he was likely coming up with another mad experiment.

Once he'd known where the girl had been intending to go, it had been child's play for Ansem to keep an eye on her. Darkness was commonplace in this world, but darkness and light walking side-by-side was a good deal less so. He had spotted what seemed to be the heart of his former host, however. Perhaps later he would need to speak to the boy again. After all, it would be interesting to see how he'd fared since last the two of them spoke.

But that would come later. One thing at a time, and tempting though it was to ask the Heartless to take care of minor details he knew better than to try. They would as soon eat a person than watch properly. Thus, he'd leave them to the tasks that best suited them.

The woods she finally stopped at was a nice place. Quiet, peaceful, and perfectly suited to unobtrusively removing a person to somewhere else for time. Better yet, the tree lined paths made it perfectly easy to hide his portal out of sight, as he stepped out into the woods proper.

"I wouldn't have thought this the best place for a rest," he comment idly as he drew near.

There was a brief moment of silence, as Ansem mentally sized up Yorda. It was already clear that she either couldn't sense the darkness within him or had absolutely no sense of self-preservation. But even more than that she was frail. It wouldn't be the least bit of trouble to carry her off. Better still if she could get her to walk willingly with him into the darkness.

"Ansem," he answered simply.

"A pleasure to meet you," Ansem answered, with a brief nod. "May I join you for a moment?"

The moment needn't be long, of course. But it wouldn't hurt. He didn't have to be uncouth in his making off with people. As a matter of fact, he rather prided himself on not doing so. It created another level of difference between himself and the darknesses he ruled over. That and further information could hardly hurt matters any.

For a moment, Ansem was content to remain silent. It was quite clear that conversation wasn't something Yorda wished to engage in just at the moment and instead he settled himself next to her. It was only polite, when she'd moved to make room. There was, however, only so long he was willing to remain silent, and so after a moment he spoken up again.

"My apologies. I ought to have asked if you were waiting for someone already."

There was another nod at Ansem from that. He would likely need to expect her friend to come looking for her at some point. Oh, he could try drive the two apart, as he'd done with Riku and Sora. But he'd made no promise to do that. He'd only said he would have an interest in the girl. What happened as a result was hardly his problem. It would take more than a mere request for that.

"I presume he's a friend of yours?"

[identity profile] moardarknessplz.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Aaaaah. One of those friends. No wonder the old man had wanted to see her out of the picture for a while. What could possibly have been unsuitable about her he had no idea, but that wasn't his problem. Love was an emotion he had little need of in the first place. It was, and that was all he cared to bother with it,.

"I see," he answered with a nod. "But surely you can't wish to wait here for him forever?"

[identity profile] moardarknessplz.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. Things always had to be difficult, and in the blink of an eye the façade of politeness dropped away to reveal Ansem for the Heartless he truly was. If she wouldn't come of her own accord then Ansem would take matter into his own hands. And the sooner the better, if she was truly waiting for her friend.

"Come," he intoned as he rose to his fight, extending a hand to her as he did so.

He wasn't surprised to find her frightened. He could only guess at the reasons, but who was he to complain when that was more or less the exact emotion he'd meant to inspire? Her lack of compliance was irritating, but no matter. She couldn't run. There was darkness everywhere in this forest.

He was darkness. He and the other like him.

"Come," he repeated again, stepping closer as he reached out to take her by the shoulder. It hadn't been a request. She would come.

That brief stumble was all the opening Ansem needed and with a swiftness that made it appear almost as if he was floating over the ground he moved to her side, hand closing around Yorda's arm. His grasp was not yet tight enough to actually bruise, but there was enough of a suggestion of power in it to say that it very easily could, should she make any further attempts to escape.

Not that he was going to give her time for that, as darkness itself swirled up around them. It was time they were gone.

[identity profile] moardarknessplz.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, now that was interesting. A heart of light wrapped in purest darkness. Perhaps this one was well worth the effort. All the same, the darkness she offered by way of attack would have been very nearly as nothing to him and he couldn't help but laugh at the sheer audacity of it all before calling up his own power. There was no gesture to go with it, like there had been with hers, but there was no mistaking the gathering of his own darkness. A deep darkness, that had slept in the heart of many, across time and worlds. She could release her blast if she wished. But he would return the blow in kind, and likely stronger.

"I will not," he answered.

[identity profile] moardarknessplz.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Unlike Yorda, Ansem had no qualms about using his power, and while her blast did knock him back a step or two, his own blast followed almost directly on the heels of hers. His, however, was meant to hurt. Not so much so that it would kill, or even truly wound. But it would most certainly incapacitate. He had no interest in having to take more blows than he absolutely had to, even if they weren't painful.

Actually managing to escape was, it seemed, not going to be as easy as she might have hoped.

[identity profile] moardarknessplz.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
As long as she was less inclined to fight, it mattered little to Ansem whether or not she was still conscious, as he once again drew near enough to grab hold of her. He would suffer no further interruptions. Especially not when he was still unsure of whether or not her friend would have already begun to look for her. Especially when he could walk in at any time.

It only took a moment of concentration to call back the darkness he'd tried to call before the girl interrupted him. The only difference was that this time, the twisting tendrils of darkness swirled up around them before swallowing them up and bearing them away from the forest as if they'd never been there in the first place.
