Hidden Shadows [Complete]
Character(s): Ansem and Yorda
Content: Ansem takes Geoffrey up on his offer.
Setting: Spira, Macalania Woods
Time: Evening, Week 35
Warnings:BILLY ZANE Ansem.
It had all started with a note. It had been short and terse, and so very much like Mao that she hadn't thought to question it or grow suspicious. The gist of it had been to come to Macalania Woods, quickly, and to not tell anyone where she was going, including Geoffrey. She hadn't needed the warning, being as untrusting of Geoffrey as she was. The girl put on the winter clothes Urd had been thoughtful enough to give her and walked out immediately, packing some travel supplies in a basket in case she or Mao ended up needing them.
It had taken her quite awhile to reach the woods, what with having to be as careful as possible. The Doctor had warned Yorda against going anywhere alone, but Mao needed her. She couldn't just abandon him. Besides, she knew she would be safe with him. At long last, she reached the woods, quiet and deceptively still. The glowing girl couldn't help but breathe a soft sigh of contentment as she looked about herself, lost in the beauty and tranquility of the strange and alluring forest.
She sat down at the base of a tree, resting herself while she waited for Mao to arrive. Knowing him, he was likely coming up with another mad experiment.

But that would come later. One thing at a time, and tempting though it was to ask the Heartless to take care of minor details he knew better than to try. They would as soon eat a person than watch properly. Thus, he'd leave them to the tasks that best suited them.
The woods she finally stopped at was a nice place. Quiet, peaceful, and perfectly suited to unobtrusively removing a person to somewhere else for time. Better yet, the tree lined paths made it perfectly easy to hide his portal out of sight, as he stepped out into the woods proper.
"I wouldn't have thought this the best place for a rest," he comment idly as he drew near.

The glowing girl stood up, drawing closer to the man with such odd eyes, curious. "Who are you?" she asked him. She had hardly seen anyone on her way to the woods, and no sign of Mao, which worried her, but surely he would show up sooner or later. If worst came to worst, she could always look for him.
no subject
"Ansem," he answered simply.
no subject
"I am Yorda," she replied, eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of Mao.

The moment needn't be long, of course. But it wouldn't hurt. He didn't have to be uncouth in his making off with people. As a matter of fact, he rather prided himself on not doing so. It created another level of difference between himself and the darknesses he ruled over. That and further information could hardly hurt matters any.

For the moment, Yorda chose to remain silent, merely looking through the recent entries on the message boards. She'd learned to keep up with them in case something happened while she was wandering, and it gave her something to do while she waited.
no subject
"My apologies. I ought to have asked if you were waiting for someone already."
no subject
The initial flare of worry which had shown itself when Ansem had looked at her in such an oddly frightening way was gone now, and the princess relaxed. Surely it had been nothing.
no subject
"I presume he's a friend of yours?"
no subject
"He is a good friend. I like him very much," she said at last, a bright smile coming over her face as she thought of Mao.
no subject
"I see," he answered with a nod. "But surely you can't wish to wait here for him forever?"
no subject
She wouldn't leave him, not as long as he wanted her around.
no subject
"Come," he intoned as he rose to his fight, extending a hand to her as he did so.

no subject
He was darkness. He and the other like him.
"Come," he repeated again, stepping closer as he reached out to take her by the shoulder. It hadn't been a request. She would come.
no subject
She had to get away, she knew - but her unwillingness to leave Mao when he needed her to wait for him caused the girl to hesitate for a moment.
no subject
Not that he was going to give her time for that, as darkness itself swirled up around them. It was time they were gone.
no subject
Instinctually, the glowing girl allowed the inky darkness to overtake her, pushing at Ansem as far as her not-inconsiderable (though still comparatively feeble) strength would allow. "Let me go!" she demanded, the hand which still held her journal coming up, threatening to release a wave of power. She didn't truly wish to cause anyone harm, but she had made a promise, unspoken though it was. SHe would not leave those she'd grown to love so easily.
no subject
"I will not," he answered.
no subject
But she felt the darkness building within Ansem, and her heart grew cold and afraid. She didn't know what he was capable of, and she had never tried to use her powers in this way before. There was no telling what the strange man was going to do.
no subject
Actually managing to escape was, it seemed, not going to be as easy as she might have hoped.
no subject
She couldn't give in. She just couldn't. Mao needed her, and it never occurred to the girl that she had fallen right into a trap.
no subject
It only took a moment of concentration to call back the darkness he'd tried to call before the girl interrupted him. The only difference was that this time, the twisting tendrils of darkness swirled up around them before swallowing them up and bearing them away from the forest as if they'd never been there in the first place.
no subject
Her eyes widened with fear when she saw the darkness he was calling up, the memories of being dragged into the inky blackness by her mother's implacable shadows dredging themselves up in her mind. She struggled harder, letting out a terrified cry as they were consumed by the darkness.
