Character(s): Rinoa, and Squall
Content: Rinoa and Squall meet up for the first time in Paixao. Or atleast the first time as far as Rinoa's concerned.
Setting: Niflheim Gate
Time: Week 32
Warnings: None for the moment

Having wandered off from it earlier, Rinoa made her way back to the gate, trying to make it easier for Squall to eventually find her. She would have to ask him more when he got to her, but right now, the last thing she wanted was to chat with him through a journal. She wanted to see him in front of her. Wanted physical proof that he was really here. No, she needed it.

When she reached the gate, she chose a spot to wait for him, already knowing that her black hair and brown eyes stuck out like a sore thumb in the sea of blond hair and blue eyes.

She pulled out the electronic journal, talking to others as she waited for Squall to arrive, not really sure how long it would take him to get to her. Still, she would wait. She would always wait for him to find her.

Fortunately for the both of them, the train system is at least on time, if not the fastest. Faster than walking, yes. But even with that it still took a moment or three before he managed to arrive at the stop nearest the gate in question. Far too long, if he was going to be honest about it, but what could you do? It wasn't like there was any faster way through the city. Still, as soon as the train had come to a stop he couldn't keep himself from hurrying through the streets towards the gate itself. It had been far too long since he'd seen anyone from home, and the fact that she didn't seem to remember the place was an inconvenience, but one trumped by the fact that she was present at all.

She wasn't hard to find, even in the crowd of people milling around the gate. He could probably have found her even in a crowd of brunettes, to be honest, and there was the start of a smile on his face as he made his way towards where she was waiting.

There it was. The face that he hadn't been aware he'd missed so badly until he'd seen it again. She was here. He wouldn't have to be alone, wouldn't have to cling to the few fragments he had or turn a blind and uncaring eye to the goings-on of the city just to make it through yet another day. He had something now.

The start of a smile that had been on his face earlier was just about threatening to make it into a proper smile at Rinoa's wave. Even if he hadn't really needed it, it was a welcome sight, and he picked up his pace as he made his way over to her.

"Rinoa."

She wouldn't have to wait long. As a matter of fact, he was already closing the distance between them before she'd even finished speaking. Even if he could have said no to that suggestion he wouldn't have wanted to. Not after all these months (was it really that long?) alone.

He didn't say anything though. He figured the hug itself would be answer enough.

Too long, if you asked him. But he was just as content to not need to answer. He had a sneaking suspicion that heading down that road was like walking into a den of monsters. There were too many things that would need to be explained, and not all of them would be simple things. No, far better to simply stay here like this, where he didn't need to explain anything. Not if he could get away with not having to.

"I missed you," he spoke up, after a long moment.

He didn't have a concise answer for that. He'd been here almost longer than he cared to remember, but not all of that had been alone. Rinoa had been here for some of that, and every now and then another person he knew drifted into the city just long enough to get his hopes up before vanishing again.

Hopefully that wouldn't be the case here.

"Months."

Luckily for her, Squall had just about all the answers that had been found as people learned more about the place. He'd had to do something while he was ignoring the rest of the population as best he could.

"Apart from the Heartless and Lumens, you'll also want to watch out for the Organization," he answered. "They haven't been doing much that I've seen lately, but word is that they're the ones responsible for bringing us here. Besides that, there are different worlds in the different floors of the castle."

Squall had to resist the urge to smile at that. Of course he'd meant to tell them one at a time. Trying to tell them all at once was a logistical mess that would likely take someone like Selphie to manage properly, unless Zell stumbled across the formula by accident. And really, as far as he was considered, they could keep the formula.

"The Heartless are monster of darkness. I've heard they'll steal people's hearts. Lumens are their opposite, more or less."

[identity profile] maybeimaleon.livejournal.com 2011-09-23 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
"No one really knows a lot about the Lumens," Squall answered with a shrug. As far as he knew, it was the truth, and he wasn't really sure who he'd even ask if he was wrong. Or rather, he had his suspicions about who he'd have to ask and he wasn't all sure he wanted to try. Some people it really was best to not draw the attention of, even when nothing had been definitively proven one way or the other.

"They just look like they should be the opposite of the Heartless."

Ah, now they were on more familiar ground. Sure, he hadn't had much of a call to use the information in a while, but that didn't mean he'd forgotten. Why should he have, when he was most likely one of the few who still remembered how things had been before the first world-floor had opened.

"They're the ones who brought us here, supposedly. They used to experiment on the people brought in, too. They've been quiet recently though."

[identity profile] maybeimaleon.livejournal.com 2011-10-21 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Probably," Squall answered with a nod. "We don't have a way of telling for sure, but it's better to assume they are." That way they'd be ready for them, when they finally decided to return to being visibly present in the city.

[identity profile] maybeimaleon.livejournal.com 2011-11-02 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"No one really knows," Squall answered with a shrug. At the worst of it, people had had a rather distressing habit of simply vanishing from the streets, but no one had really understood why people were chosen or not chosen. And worst of all, there hadn't actually been anything anyone really do to find out. Without knowing where the Organization was usually found, there was absolutely no way to actually try and ask, assuming of course that the effort wouldn't just make you the new prime target for experimentation.

"They just... did."

[identity profile] maybeimaleon.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Presumably," Squall answered with a shrug. It wasn't a reason he pretended to understand, but yes. He would admit that logically speaking there had to have been a reason. Some unknown reason, but that was a reason all the same.
