Cooking By The Book [Active]

Character(s): Lumiere, Beast, and Vanille
Content: Lumiere and Vanille bake a pretty cake.
Setting: Beast's Apartment
Time: Afternoon
Warnings: None.

One had not truly lived without exploding at least one cake in their lifetime. The way Lumiere saw it, in order to make a successful cake one had to make a disastrous one first. Vanille had already done that and from what she had told him, he could only assume it had been quite the mess. That was good; the bigger the mishap, the better. That meant she would learn all the more from his little cooking lesson. Granted, he had not intended to teach her anything particularly challenging. Should by some odd chance there be an error and yet another cake lost in before reaching ones stomach, Lumiere preferred it to be one which took less work to clean up.

Other than a few ingredients he had asked the girl to retrieve last minute, Lumiere had everything lain out on the kitchen counter that they would need. He surveyed the display thoughtfully and ran through a list of all they required. As far as he could tell, he had thought of everything… Except permission from the Master that he have a guest. Though, it was not as though Vanille was a stranger. Beast had spoken with the girl on a few occasions from what Lumiere had seen. Her presence in the house surely would not be of that great inconvenience. From what Lumiere could tell, the girl liked him and would be good company. He could not possibly object. At least, he hoped not.

Lumiere peered into the Beast’s room, not bothering to knock on the door before he entered. “Master?”

The last few days had seen Beast spending most of his time in his bedroom, saying little to anyone. As happy as he was that Belle had come back, she didn't remember anything of what had happened here. And he didn't remember anything of what happened with her in his castle. If he didn't know better, he'd say she liked him more now, than before she left, but...now he was left not knowing what to say to her. Maybe...he should ask...

"What?" Beast went bolt upright in an instant, all thoughts of Belle banished by the servant's sudden interruption.

"A...guest? Here? Why?" The confusion showed plain on Beast's face. He had never invited a guest before, and had never allowed them in the castle. What had made Lumiere decide now of all times to invite someone here of all places? He looked at the state of his bedroom, and made a show of the wreck he had turned it into with Belle's disappearance. The...first Belle's. Never before had Beast felt so much pain, so much loss, than that day, and every last bit of it had turned into rage. Nothing save the glass case with the rose, and the stand upon which it rested, had survived his wrath, and all of it was still in shambles...or worse. It was a state no room should be seen by anyone, much less...a guest.

"What are they going to be doing here?" The question was an obvious one, though Beast couldn't fathom what the answer could possibly be. It made him...nervous, to have a stranger coming here. "And why can't you meet them somewhere else?"

"Baking?" Why would they...? Lumiere had answered the question before Beast had a chance to ask it out loud. The servant had invited someone over to bake a cake...in Beast's kitchen. He growled softly.

"There must be somewhere else the two of you can go." Even if the guest was told to come nowhere near this room, that was no guarantee they would stay out. And what was Beast himself to do for all that time? Stay cooped up in here?

Another soft growl was punctuated by Beast rubbing at the ruff of his collar. Heavy footpads fell across the floor as he began to pace on all fours, unable to decide what he should do. This would be the first person ever to have entered this apartment, other than Belle. And Vanille was curious, if she saw the rose she would never stop asking about it. He couldn't let that happen.

"If she comes here, you must promise me she won't see anything in this room, no matter what. Do you understand?" He looked directly at his servant, who thankfully was standing in the doorway--where Beast wouldn't have to see all the wreckage he'd created.
