Bookaholic [Active/Open]
Character(s): Remus Lupin and anyone who wants to join him.
Content: Remus is hitting the books to see what he can find on the darker aspects of Paixao.
Setting: Os Dias Sao a Noite (The library)
Time: Midday (Week 32)
Warnings: None I can think of.
Remus had leaned a valuable lesson from his venture to City Hall with Wolf. Having had less than no success, Remus decided to lay low for a while and try to find information elsewhere. The library seemed a decent enough place. It was quiet, and while he doubted it would contain all the information he wanted, there was the possibility that he could find something else to help himself and everyone else in Paixao who wanted to know how to get back to their respective homes.
At the moment, Remus wasn't having much luck. He was at the card catalog, searching through the cards for anything that may work. He frowned, becoming increasingly frustrated over the lack of resources.

The book he had was a documented study into the science of magic--in other words not quite what he was interested in. This wasn't the first he'd felt that he'd been wasting time. I seem to get a lot more information outside than I ever would in here, he mulled to himself, feeling quite bored.
Finally, he slid the thick hardbound book back into place. He keenly overheard the sound of someone ruffling through papers, or some thin material of some sort, at a quicker pace of browsing. Naesala stepped out, the bookshelves wide enough for his convenience. If they hadn't been a great deal apart, the raven man wouldn't have bothered. The dark wings on his back usually required a little more space than any human needed.
The human boy up ahead might as well be a change of pace. His dark eyes needed a rest. Normally, Naesala wouldn't spend much time reading anything at all. He used his sight for more important things; spying treasure, hunting, and seeing danger from some distance away.
He brushed one hand through his blue hair as he approached the human youth, the source of the sound that went off kilter to the peaceful solace in this establishment. To prevent the woman in charge from having to tell him to leave, he slyly kept his suave voice to the appropriate volume. "Someone must have gone through quite a deal to keep Paixao secretive to outsiders..."

He did hesitate to speak when he saw the large wings on the man's back. It was odd enough that he had blue hair, but that? Well, it couldn't be too far-fetched, considering there were talking lions, half-wolves, and other strange things inhabiting the city. "You've got that right." Remus rubbed the back of his neck. "There's nothing to find on the heartless and other monsters seen around here either."
no subject
"I was only curious about its architecture... The mysteries keep piling up for the rumors to grow. Meanwhile, anything down to the simplest of things about the city might be under lock and key elsewhere." He did not sound very frustrated, but rather disappointed.
Naesala pulled out a nearby chair and sat in it. He propped his knee high boots on the table. Since he might as well join this human for company, he might as well make himself as comfortable as he'd like. "What of these--Heartless, was it? What manner of form are they? The ones who make you squint to see better? The ones that lurk in the shadows...? All I know is that they are trouble. Some of them I've fought in the sky."
no subject
"All I know about the heartless is that they're shadows that are summoned by people with darkness in their hearts. Whatever that means. They're also pretty dangerous. A friend and I got too close to a place where a lot of them come from, and we barely made it out in one piece." Remus wouldn't be forgetting that experience any time soon. He wouldn't be going anywhere near City Hall either. Not unless he had a damned good reason and plenty of people with him for back up.

"The creator of Paixao must be quite a mage."
Naesala listened with undivided attention and interest as the boy shared his experience with the living shadows in combat. "And the creatures of light are the 'Lumens', correct? I heard a little about them, but never had to tear through those beasts as I did with the heartless." He sounded fairly relaxed as he had thought about his recent encounters with some of the flying shadows. "To what I've seen, the heartless are indeed stronger in swarming numbers. I perch high from their reach when they gather and assemble by the hundreds. It doesn't make much of a difference to delay them."
To learn that there were people who could summon the things that don't know despair or pain--it would have to be looked into further. To him it was fascinating as well as risky to establish contact with them.
no subject
"I haven't had any trouble with the Lumans. I think they'll leave you alone if you don't go bothering them." He sighed. "The heartless are a problem though. Especially for those of us unfortunate enough not to have wings." He gave the man in front of him an inquisitive look. "Were you born that way, or did the wings come from a spell?"
no subject
"I wouldn't question your search to seek a solution to the heartless infestation," he added. "It's only reasonable."
Oh he had to laugh a little at the question about his wings. Really, he found that funny. "Oh this isn't any type of spell. Since I was a Nestling, I always had my wings. For you see, I am what is known as a laguz..." A grin lingered, almost as if he was going to laugh again. "I may not look like an actual bird to you, but my other form is primarily used for fighting, and hunting."
no subject
Remus couldn't quite read this guy. He wasn't sure if he was trustworthy or not, so he leaned towards caution. "I see. Well, there isn't too much to hunt here, unless you go after the heartless." This was awkward.
no subject
"Living shadows I don't think would be very tasty," Naesala said, slyly. Oh he was starting to have little fun with this human. "I prefer to dine on what's already served by the humans that live here. Not just the meats, but the fruits and nuts too..." The notion that Paixao was all magic had Naesala thinking further on the subject. "Where the food originates from, could that be magic as well?"
Hmn... That could be possible, but it's a strange concept to take in, he considered.
no subject
"Food still has to come from somewhere. Even magic can't make food from nothing." The law concerning this was on the tip of Remus' tongue, but he couldn't remember for the life of him what it was called at the moment.
This guy was interesting to say the least, and he even admitted to knowing some magic. "What kind of magic can you do?"
no subject
"You see, I find this more interesting and productive than having to sort through all these tomes," he admitted. "This conversation, I mean... It'd be interesting to look further into what's done in exchange to produce what is being served and sold throughout the city."
Naesala moved his feet off the table as he didn't mind explaining the following. "The one spell I've learned and used in battle is one known as Vortex. It involves projecting several blades of wind to slice apart my enemies. It's a powerful one at that, but casting it over and over would be exhausting."
Feel free to follow him...
Ooooooooookay. The one spell he knows and it sounds like it was created by a dark wizard. "Sounds complicated." Remus tried to keep his face straight, but he couldn't completely mask how uneasy he was feeling now. Remus pocketed his wand as he got up. "Well, I don't think I'll find much else here. I'll be going then." Remus nervously pointed towards the door. "Can't let myself waste too much time."
I think he will follow...
"Vortex may not be so complex as you'd think. The magic you speak of seems more...broadly ranged," the raven pondered aloud. "My world of Tellius isn't that expansive, other than using it as a means to help defend for what they think is right." Well, saying it like that was putting it lightly. Perhaps he just wanted to put his past mistakes and battles out of his mind for once. There would be a better future for all the flock of Kilvas once he managed to break out of Paixao.
Naesala rose from the chair he was seated in. "I may as well head out as well. A bird such as myself is more comfortable with an open sky, anyway..." He turned and bowed his head a little. "I think it's high time we introduced ourselves. I am Naesala."
It would be sensible to learn the name of this mage he has been having a productive conversation with, for Naesala had a feeling that it was likely that he would be seeing this youth again.

"It sounds like you'd find it miserable here then." Remus walked out the front doors of the library and gazed up at the ceiling of the dome that covered the city. It was pretty high up, but he could understand that people who enjoyed flying would have a problem with it. James would certainly hate it, as it would certainly get in the way of Quidditch.

For thousands of years, back in his home world, many other laguz had been wary of the Walkers. Something like that after winning a war against the most disgusting of human kings wouldn't change overnight.
At least over here, in this world, many humans and others were not familiar at all with laguz. That very fact made his stay tolerable in the very least.
Naesala didn't let his wariness show too much as it was replaced by a gradual grin. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance."
He moved not far behind Remus in following him outdoors. The raven observed Remus looking up at the high domed ceiling, the "sun" warming his skin. The sky in its illusion of being real went almost by unnoticed to his keen eyesight. "Oh this place isn't too bad." He was sounding easy-going all over again. "The people and the overall mysteries of this city seem to make up for the artificial sky... Not that I intend to stay. I belong with my flock."
no subject
"I don't think any of us intend to stay longer than we have to." 'Us' meaning everyone that had been kidnapped and plopped down in this crazy place. "I've been trying to learn more about this place to find a way out, but I still haven't really found anything."
no subject
As he was often seen as untrustworthy by most native to Tellius, he did not place much trust in humans. In his perspective, they were not much more than tools to be used for Kilvas' gain. This, and not getting attached to any individual in the process was a code that the ravens have lived by for years.
Naesala slightly tilted his head, appearing thoughtful--all for show. There was a stirring hunch as he was interested in furthermore cooperation with Remus. "It's obvious that we share similar goals, Remus... I too strive to learn much, and put the acquired knowledge to good use upon leaving."
no subject
"My goal is to find a way out of here and to get back where I belong. I hope that any knowledge I get about these heartless and this place and general can be thrown away afterwards." Not that he'd actually do such a thing if he could help it. Being a wizard, he knew all too well that there were many unsolved mysteries in the world, and knowledge was the best way to defend yourself against the less favorable ones.
no subject
If they were to cross paths again as Naesala would intend it, then it would be good to appear harmless and trying hard to help those around him find a way out--when he was actually concerned for mainly himself and his flock back in Kilvas...
Naesala would see to it that he'd return to his kingdom. The mage he just met in the library could be a key to making progress. Magic wasn't something he understood very well, unlike any other mage or scholar in Tellius. So he would keep in touch with someone that did.
"Indeed. I share that sentiment." Naesala slightly bowed his head to show respect. In some small corner of his mind, part of him wanted to gag in mild disgust when playing a charming Good Samaritan, but he didn't dare show it. No, that would just bring the following pitch to ruin. "I'd also like to find a solution in which no one will find themselves back here again... Remus, I think we could be of great aid to one another. I, with my keen senses and taking wing from place to place around here. You, with your experience of magic and being here longer than I have. The determination we share to seek what makes this city tick enough to escape? All the better...
"I like to keep up to date on current events around me, wherever I go. Anything interesting I come across, I could share with you. No price attached. That I can offer."
no subject
Then again, Neasala brought up something Remus had yet to think of. Going around and spying on people? It sounded like it could be possible to get answers that way, but after his and Wolf's exploration around City Hall, he wasn't going to risk it.
no subject
Ah, from what he could see, Remus was starting to consider the offer. There was no need to push his luck on this. "Think it over, if you must. And, obviously, you'll know how to reach me once you've finished."
This was perhaps a good time to go elsewhere. In making deals with the humans for long enough, Naesala knew when he'd approach too close for comfort.
