Sanctuary [Active/Closed]
Character(s): Naminé and Kairi
Content: A Nobody finally meets her Somebody
Setting: Cafe Ersesat by Nifleheim
Time: Week 29, midday
Warnings: Cavities. Yup.
Naminé had never actually met Kairi before this. Sure, she'd tried to talk to her Other a few times and had always meant to go out and meet her sometime, but then Kairi had disappeared and things had just turned different. Naminé was still trying to wrap her head around it all. But now that her life (or nonexistence, whichever) had calmed down a little, she'd contacted Kairi.
And now they were going to actually meet. And Naminé was nervous.
She was sitting at one of the tables, hands wrapped around a mug of hot cocoa, as she waited for Kairi to arrive. She had things to talk about, things she wanted to know. Mostly, she just wanted to get to know Kairi a little more. Oddly enough.

As she pushed open the door, Kairi pushed some hair behind her ear in a typical habitual gesture, and looked around. Spotting Naminé, she strolled over, clasping her hands behind her back.
"Hi Naminé." Her voice was friendly and warm as she reached out to take a seat across from the blond girl.
no subject
"Hello, Kairi," she answered as her Other slid into the seat across from her.
At least... she assumed this was Kairi. The girl looked different than the form Naminé had taken to impersonate her in front of Riku, but her voice was the same as it should have been.
Naminé took a breath, willing her nerves to quiet.
"It's good to finally meet you."
She had no idea that she was so far back in Kairi's past, nor that a lot would have happened. Judging by Sora and Riku, she figured Kairi was part of her future now, but what that entailed, she didn't know.
I am. So fail. Forever.
"I remember you saying you hadn't met me before... I guess we really are from different times." Kairi smiled a bit, "But I'm glad to see you."
Leaning forward a bit, the redhead rested her elbow on the table and her chin on her palm. "So tell me, what did you want to talk about?"
Nah. ♥ Like I can ever talk about being a fail tagger XD
"I just... wanted to talk," she answered honestly. "Roxas has met Sora now, so I... wanted to meet you."
Shyly, the blonde raised her head again to look at her Other. "Am I... really far behind you?" She meant in time, though she realized belatedly, her point might not have been as clear as she had wanted.
♥♥♥
Considering her question for a moment, the redhead nodded slowly. She'd understood. "I think you might be. I can't say for sure, because in my time we've only met once. I don't really know what you were doing before we met, but you look... a bit younger than me."
At the moment, a waitress stopped at their table to ask Kairi for her order. The girl just asked for hot cocoa too so they could continue their conversation. "What was going on before you arrived?"
/looooooove ♥♥♥
Naminé had to honestly think about that for a minute. So much had happened here in Paixao that she had to think back to home... or as much of a home as life had ever been...
"I was in Twilight Town with DiZ," she answered, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear in much the same fashion that Kairi always did. "I'd just talked to Xion... about what she really is. I was trying to piece together Sora's memory."
no subject
"Xion?" She hadn't met her at all, actually. She might have heard the name somewhere on the network around here but the moment she wasn't placing it. She'd never actually met or spoken to the girl. "Well, you managed to do it. At least, I think so... because Sora was fine when I saw him later."
no subject
The blonde glanced up with a nod. "I've seen him, too. He looked older than he was when I last saw him. So... maybe it did work."
She had to hope that, right? Because if Sora couldn't recover... a lot more than just Naminé's ego, tiny as it was, would be at stake. The worlds themselves would be in far greater danger.
"When did you see Twilight Town?" And why hadn't Naminé known?
no subject
"More than maybe. Have a little faith in yourself, okay?"
Honestly, if Naminé hadn't succeeded, she was sure she wouldn't have remembered Sora at all. She hated thinking back and knowing she hadn't thought about him during a large part of the time he was gone. How could Kairi forget Sora of all people.
"Hm? A little while ago... I kind of ended up there by accident, I think."
no subject
"I was doing what I had to," she responded modestly. "If Sora didn't wake up, the worlds would all be in danger. I... couldn't let that happen."
So much would have gone wrong. Xemnas' plan would have come true. Even the Castle Oblivion crew would have had a hand in it. Naminé didn't want to think of anything like that happening.
"I guess I was too busy..." Or maybe she'd left by then. Maybe she had finished her job and... disappeared. She wasn't sure which option was the best, honestly. Everywhere she turned, she was faced with the realization that she was just a Nobody. Her existence was never supposed to happen in the first place.
no subject
Kairi tried to smile then, "I went to Twilight Town before I met you, actually. I don't know where you were..." She paused, looking up and then back to the blond. "I just went through this portal. It was a spur of the moment decision to get away from someone." Mentioning Axel by name seemed wrong now.
no subject
"I'm sorry... it's my fault the chains of his memory were broken in the first place," she admitted, letting her eyes close for a short moment. "I had to redo what I'd undone in the first place."
She didn't know what Kairi knew about her and her abilities, but... maybe now was a time to admit to it.
"Twilight Town... it's pretty important, too, isn't it?"
no subject
"You broke Sora's memories? But.... why?" She sincerely just wanted to know. She chewed her bottom lip a little bit, glancing to the side.
"I don't know, but I don't think anything around us happens by coincidence."
my turn to be slow ;o;
Naminé's head lowered and she let out a soft sigh, releasing her hold on her drink and resting her hands in her lap. "Because... I wasn't strong enough to say no." Because Marluxia had scared her. Larxene, too. Her head lifted again in a rare show of defiance. "But I won't do it again. Sora's too important."
No matter how many threats she got, she wouldn't do anything to hurt him again. Not if she could help it. Despite her meeting with Xemnas resounding through her head at that moment, her mind was still made up. She couldn't hurt anyone else like that. She'd much rather end her own existence.
no subject
She gave the other girl a genuine smile. "Whatever happens from now on, you and I can work things out together. I would really like to be your friend... if that's okay with you."
no subject
The blonde looked up shyly and smiled at her Other as Kairi mentioned friendship, nodding once in response. "Friends... Okay. I'd... really like that, too." Just like Sora had said he'd be her friend. That counted, even if he didn't remember it.
And suddenly, she got an idea, perking up considerably. "Have you tried sea-salt ice cream?"
no subject
At the question, Kairi shook her head. "No, I can't say that I have."
no subject
Not that she was very familiar with other types of ice cream, but she liked this one. "The seller isn't far from here. We can talk more once we've gotten ice cream, okay?"
Having already paid for her cocoa, Naminé didn't bother worrying with what she should do for it. At least she'd managed to finish most of it by this point. But she was excited anyway. This would be like the trip with her other friends and she liked that idea. Hopefully Kairi would like her attempt at friendship, too.
no subject
"Ready to go when you are. I'm looking forward to talking with you more." And to ice cream. Being a beach girl, she loved cold treats like this.
no subject
Naminé couldn't help the smile on her face as she quickly led the way outside and around to the sea-salt ice cream vendor. It wasn't too much of a walk and the Nobody was excited to be able to share something with her Other. Once there, she pulled out enough "money" for both of them and made the order.
"I've never had anything like these before," she told Kairi, taking both ice cream sticks and handing one to the redhead. She looked excited to see what Kairi would think of the treat.
no subject
Sweet. Salty. Cold.... it was really good. It wasn't like a normal ice cream flavor, like strawberry or chocolate, it was really a category all its own. "This is good!" she exclaimed, grabbing a napkin to hold under the ice cream in case it started to melt.
no subject
"I'm really glad you like it," she told Kairi honestly. "It's different, but it's good. Roxas... introduced me to it. It's something to share with your friends."
And she was already starting to think of Kairi as a friend.
no subject
The one time she had spoken to the Nobody had been a strange experience, and the one time she had met him they hadn't really exchanged any words at all. She'd like a chance to talk to him ore if he was here in Paixao.
no subject
"Then... someday you should."
She wasn't sure if she should ask about Xion, especially considering what she knew about the other Nobody, but neither did she want to leave Xion out. They were friends, right? It wouldn't be fair. And besides, Roxas would want to bring her, too.
"Can I invite Xion, too? I'm not sure if she'd want to come, but... she's really nice. I know you'd like her."
no subject
If only she knew just who and what Xion was.
hnnngh so late DX
"Okay!" The blonde paused for a minute to offer Kairi a genuine smile, larger and brighter than many she'd given, especially recently. "Thanks... Kairi." The smile didn't waver as she went back to her ice cream bar, getting close to the end of it.
"It... means a lot to me that you don't mind spending time with me."
Naminé didn't really have many friends and knowing her Other didn't mind being around her meant a great deal, more than she could actually say.
LATE AS WELL
Kairi bit into the very last bit of her ice cream, making sure that the melting bits didn't reach her fingers and make them sticky. "There's no reason for me to mind spending time with you. You're nice, and I like you. That's all that counts."
If it were up to the red head, she would find every friend for Naminé that she could.
/sets up the slowmobile here, too
Naminé finished off her ice cream and placed the stick in a nearby trashcan before turning back to Kairi. The redhead's words meant a lot to her, more than she could say.
"I... like you, too. And not just... because you're my Other." Sora liked her and he had good taste. Riku, too. "And if we like spending time together... Isn't that what friends do? We can be friends. Like Sora told me."
no subject
"You just let me know whenever you want to hang out together; I'd be more than happy to spend time with you. We can talk anytime, that's exactly what friends do. And you can come to me if there's ever anything bothering you or anything like that, I'll be there if you need me."
no subject
"Okay. I'd really like that. Sometime soon we'll hang out again."
And after only a minute more of debate, Naminé finally reached out for that hug, awkward as it was going to be.
no subject
She scooped the other girl into her arms and gave her a friendly, squishing hug. There was no awkwardness on her part, Naminé deserved a good hug and Kairi was going to be the one to give it to her.
no subject
When she pulled back to look at Kairi again, her other recent meeting popped up in her head, but she was determined not to let that ruin everything. So she just nodded to Kairi and smiled.
"Be careful, Kairi. We'll meet again."
She didn't have anything else she could say about it, not yet, so she just turned and hurried off. Later... she'd explain later.
