That travel agency had certainly been convenient. Though not quite Riku's style, the fur-trimmed coat's warmth kept him from complaining in the brutal cold. The mittens had just enough grip he didn't have to fear losing Gloaming Saber to an attacker. Considering the environment, he was surprised that the only thing he hadn't faced on the mountain was a yeti. It had certainly felt as if they couldn't walk five feet without the icy silence being shattered by the heat of battle.

Afterall, it seemed as if many lives had been shattered by the many fiends. Riku paused, looking down at what he'd figured out were grave markers half-buried in the snow. They weren't the only sign of intelligent life up here. They'd passed ornately-carved pillars on the way, each glazed in ice. There were strange lumps in the snow all around that area. Thinking of them gave Riku a twinge of unease in the pit of his stomach, and, unsure, told himself they were simply small boulders. He looked away from the grave markers and continued walking with the others.

Riku had shielded his eyes with an arm against the biting winds. Even then, as he turned the corner, he balked. The wind in the area was less, but more stirring than the winds was the shock of seeing a wall of human bodies embedded into stone. Greenish mist drifted down from the wall, swirling near their feet. The low drone of unearthly human voices put even Riku on edge, and he narrowed his eyes as he looked it over. Ornate, brightly-colored designs also decorated the wall. And behind them the mist swirled, lifting the water from the hot spring and falls behind them into a column reaching for the heavens.

Why. Why. Just... WHY. Why did that girl have to force him into this damn coat?! He already had a coat, and he didn't even need to put that one on! What part of "demons aren't affected by the cold" didn't she understand?! Ugh... He looked stupid, didn't he? He did. No one was just going to say it to his face.

Mao lagged behind the others, shuffling his feet through the snow and scowling at everything and everyone. He wasn't really thinking about the coat as much anymore, though. He hadn't been for awhile. He was still annoyed about it, sure, but... It was more that it was something to think about other than everything that was wrong with this place.

Death... This place had the air of death. It was covered in it in an almost oppressive way. As they had made their way up the mountain (at a faster pace than Mao had ever thought possible--were they really covering this much ground or was it just something the castle was doing?), he had made the connection Riku hadn't wanted to. Those were graves. Why even bother making graves in these mountains anyway? What was the point? And if so many people were dying, why continue to go up this damn mountain? But... they were going up it, too, so it was kind of a stupid question to ask, wasn't it? Like hell he'd end up one of those graves, though. He wouldn't allow it.

And so he thought about his stupid jacket and how much he hated wearing it and how much he didn't need it, occasionally talking to the others. Whatever it took to take his mind off this place.

Unfortunately, it seemed the mountain wasn't about to provide him with anything like that anytime soon. Mao saw Riku stop first, and for a second, Mao mimicked the action, though he had yet to round the corner himself. What was with the sudden pause? Annoyed, Mao went ahead to see what the hold-up was and stopped again, frozen in his tracks at the sight before him.

"Wh-What the hell is this?!" Mao stammered, staring up at the face of the mountain. A chill ran down his spine--and not the good kind. Were those human bodies in the mountain? And why was it decorated like that? And what was with this mist?! Something was being done with this... whatever it was, and that something made Mao very uneasy. This whole wall made him uneasy. And... kind of creeped out. He was still kind of interested, but not enough this time. Not even close.
