The Thrill of Adventure [Active]

Character(s): Aladdin, Sheik, Anyone else who bumps into ‘em there
Content: Aladdin goes to explore the other levels of Paixao, and runs into Sheik in Spira.
Setting: Spira
Time: Afternoon
Warnings: Probably Not Much

It took a while for Aladdin to go past the gates of Niflheim Gates, mostly because he had to wait till the guards were distracted to sneak pass them. As he wondered into the Elysian Fields he saw some of the light creatures that girl mentioned in the journals. They jumped in and out the tall grass, but they didn’t bother him. Either way, Aladdin would have been prepared to face them anyway, holding his scimitar sword as he made his way toward the old abandoned the church.

Aladdin took a look at it, and walked inside the place, “This must be St. Destino…” he spoke to himself as he let his eyes search around the place. He found the steps that led to the balcony, and wondered to the hallway with the door that led to the islands. To Aladdin this was like exploring the cave of wonders, only neither Carpet nor Abu was with him right now. He opened the door, entering into the island.

This place was pretty strange considering it’s suppose to be in a large castle, and the different levels seemed like worlds, even if they were suppose to be replicas of them. Aladdin started to wonder if his world was also Replica here, though possible, it seems that he’d have to go to different levels to get to it. What’s the point if it was a fake too? It would just make him home sick, because it wasn’t the real thing.

Aladdin made his way through the island looking around at the different places, like the seaside shack, the cove, and down by the seashore. It was while he was walking by sea that he caught glance at the waterfall and decided to go explore there. Aladdin went inside the cave behind it, and noticed the drawings on the wall. Aladdin noticed a somewhat hatched up drawing that looked like Sora next to a girl that he guessed was probably Kairi, giving each other stars, this had to be the right path, because he thought Sora must have drawn that recently.

Opening the door, it was another hallway, which led to another door this time going to the Hinterlands. Aladdin looked around the forest, and noticed some of the trees around. He didn’t really pay attention to his outfit, but more to what was around him. Aladdin he noticed these doors had pictures on it, the one he decided to open, led him to another world.

“I wonder if this is Spira…” Aladdin asked himself as he looked around inquisitively, it seems that he was in another forest, but it was very different. This one was very numinous and like everything was made out of crystals. Aladdin made his way around in the forest, mystified by his surroundings.

One did not simply run into Sheik. Really, it would be beyond embarrassing if someone were to get the drop on her. That was why she kept to the trees above the road, hidden in their crystalline branches.

Unlike the worlds contained in the floors below, Spira seemed altogether devoid of Heartless. It had its share of normal monsters, but nothing like the black infestation on the island or the shapeshifting nightmares of Halloween Town. This place was ... normal, in a way she hadn't encountered in weeks. It was actually somewhat unnerving. She had little doubt now that whatever had attacked Link here was long gone, and the mysterious beast that had helped him back to the church sat in the forefront of her suspicions. The evidence might have been circumstancial, but that made it no less damning to her.

Her thoughts were interrupted by an unfamiliar voice, and she leaned out from her current spot to investigate. It was a young man, dark-complexioned, and without shoes. Odd, but she'd seen stranger. She watched him for a moment, then -

- behind him, a beast (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Xiphos) was approaching, and fast, its needle legs making small taks on the crystal's surface. Instinctively, Sheik eased into a ready position. It hadn't seen her, but that would change if things got out of hand...

it would help if i tracked the thread huh

That was all the more prompting Sheik needed to intervene. In a flash, she leapt from her treetop perch and landed squarely on the creature's spine with enough force to make it stumble. Another split second, and the blade of her long knife flashed in the dim light. The monster howled and writhed, and she leapt again, this time landing in an impossibly low crouch behind it. But it didn't seem to notice her, focused more immediately on the stump where one of its legs had just been.

Sheik stood straight as she watched the pyreflies disperse harmlessly into the air. Well, it was at least encouraging that the man seemed to know what he was doing. He wasn't bad, just surprised. ... Granted, to a Sheikah, those two things were the same, but she was the only Sheikah here.

She sheathed her blade and briefly eyed his extended hand, but made no move to shake it. "... Sheik," she replied eventually, glancing back up.

[identity profile] songsandknives.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
The idea of herself as anyone's companion didn't even cross Sheik's mind. What did was a twinge of mild annoyance, which she suppressed. He'd come here without even knowing where he was, though? Seriously?

"... Yes. That's what they call it." She folded her arms. "It's not a place to venture casually."

[identity profile] songsandknives.livejournal.com 2010-12-18 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. So their goals were the same, more or less. To escape this place, and return home... which, supposedly, was only possible by ascending to the castle's summit. They were rumors, but rumors were all she had to go on at present. That was why she was here in the first place. She preferred her information firsthand.

"The beasts are many here," she said warningly, turning away to leave. "Don't let your guard down again." Implied was that she would not conveniently be there the next time.

Sheik looked back over her shoulder at him, unmoving. Did he really expect her to accept an offer like that? Helping a stranger, she didn't object to, but putting herself in extended contact with any one person was unthinkable. At best, he would slow her down... and at worst, her presence would call down some misfortune on him. Company was a luxury she could ill afford.

It was only because he wasn't completely incompetent that she replied at all. "Our paths may cross again, Aladdin. And if not... farewell."

With that she crouched, and leapt back into the trees, not even bothering with a Deku nut. Her supply was running low, anyway.

The Calm Lands appeared anything but their name. Time and time again Genie found himself forced to face fiends who dared challenge him. Malboro, Mech Scouter and Skoll, they all fell, effortlessly taken down by the blue djinn. Though, as easy as they were to take care of, that by no means made them any less annoying to deal with. Collecting data was difficult in a swarm of what might as well been mosquitoes. Genie mumbled to himself while he scribbled down a few notes, only pausing to adjust his glasses before he moved on.

The next Genie Golf Classic was to take place somewhere new, somewhere exciting. The whole point of it was to familiarize oneself with the foreign terrain and meet new people. Oh, and have fun. Having fun was very important too. He had hoped Spira would be the perfect place for this, the Calm Lands a nice, open valley which was perfect for a temporary course. And, by his notes and drawings, it was. The only problem was the ‘fiends’ running about and attacking everyone. Again, simple enough to take care of but annoying when one is in the middle of a golf game. More than their swing would be off. He sighed and looked down at his notes. There was always the idea of some sort of force field, but the strength of these ‘creatures’ seemed to vary. It had to be strong enough to stun them but not kill them – or anyone else who mistakenly (or curiously) walked into it. He brought his pencil to his chin and began to tap it gently against it.

Maybe he was over thinking this, his thoughts clouded by the many alternate options. A break, just a little one, could help. Yes, it couldn’t hurt. Genie placed his notes down beside him and leaned back in the hot spring he had decided to stop and enjoy. The frigid chill the mountain held had little effect on him, but that did not mean he could not enjoy the warmth that the spring offered. He looked up at the caves roof and had just begun to close his eyes when a familiar voice filled his ears. Someone else was in the cave. They weren’t very close, but the cave easily made up for the distance, echoing the person’s voice from its walls.

“Aladdin?” he asked himself before cranking his head back and shouting to the boy. “Yo, yo, yo! Al, you be up in this cave too, brotha?”

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
A cool blue glow reflected off the walls of the cave, the light growing more intense the closer one got to Genie. He had not intended to beacon Aladdin to his location like this but if it worked better than his voice, he was not about to argue. Sometimes being a giant light bulb paid offer. Other times, not so much.

Turning in the direction he had heard his friends voice, Genie cupped his hand over his mouth and proceeded to call out to Aladdin. “Nope, just us rocks here after a combination of chemical processes, erosion, tectonic forces, microorganisms, pressure, and atmospheric influences.” He replied jokingly. “Sorry. Try again later.”

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-01-14 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
“I could ask you the very same question.” Genie replied with a hint of suspicion. Though he knew Aladdin had intended to explore the castle and join the much anticipated race to the top. To find him here came as no surprise to the genie. To bump into him was another. A sly grin spread across his features as he looked to Aladdin. “Although, I suppose I already know.” He continued and tapped his nose knowingly. “But don’t you think it’s a little early to be getting into trouble? You only got here two weeks ago.” Of course, he was only teasing and knew well of his friends good intentions.

He waved to Aladdin to join him, shifting in the spring to reach for the notes he had placed beside it. “I’ve been doing some observations of this floor or worlds geography, if you would. The landscape is perfect for the golf course I’ve been planning to erect. Mini golf course, that is.” Genie waved his notes, as though to prove his point before placed them back down, safely away from the spring. “I want to mix it up a bit. Besides, who doesn’t like mini golf?” Without pause for Aladdin to answer, the genie continued. “There’s such a scenic view of the area from up here, the sort you see on postcards. I just had to see it for myself! And snap a picture for my vacation sideshow. Maybe I’ll even make it my desktop. I love Mickey n’ Pals but I’ve had the same image for months! I think Mickey would understand. At least, I hope he would. But, anyway, the springs I just stumbled across on my way up. I just thought I’d relax for a bit.”

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Genie gave a small sigh. He knew Aladdin would say that. How typical. He was rather tempted to ‘catch’ him, if only to tease him, however thought it best he do so another time. That way he had the element of surprise and really make Aladdin fess up.

“It’s a surprise.” he told his friend. Genie wanted to keep this tournament well under ties and didn’t want any information regarding it to leak. And though he trusted Al, he was not sure he could trust the walls that surrounded them. Maybe he was being a little paranoid about the whole thing but who honestly knew if others lingered in the cave, listening to their conversation, waiting for Genie to reveal the details of his tournament? It was a little silly but only so to everyone who wasn’t Genie. He eyed the rock walls in suspicion before looking back at Aladdin.

“Those creatures are a tad problematic, aren’t they? Though, I wouldn’t go so far as to call the monsters, even if they have the tendency to act like ones.” The genie rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “I haven’t decided what to do about them yet. I don’t want to hurt them but I don’t want them to hurt others either.” He stopped and pointed to Aladdin’s feet, changing topics completely. “Aren’t you going to at least put your feet in? They must been aching.”

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-01-30 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
The genie stared at Aladdin for a moment, blinking numerous times, as though unsure of his friend’s question. There was a moment of silence between them before he spoke. “Sheik?” he repeated, a brow quirked. “That’s not short for Sheikah, is it? An ancient clan of ninja warriors sworn to protect the Royal Family of Hyrule, also referred to as ‘the Shadows of the Hylians’.” Genie pursed his lips in thought. “To my knowledge they’re considered extinct.” After a moment, his lips twisted into a mischievous smile. “Although, just because they say they’re extinct, that doesn’t make it necessarily true.” At this, he shared a wink with Aladdin.

“But this gentleman, Sheik, what did he look like? About yea tall? Skin tight, blue suit, big Sheikah emblem on the chest? The Sheikah emblem, being a red eye with three triangles resting above it, tear drop bellow it. Oh-! Wait a minute.” Suddenly, the commonly known Milton Bradley game ‘Guess Who?’ appeared in front of Genie. The game board levitated above the water, just at the perfect level for the genie to flip the characters down without much effort. “Is your person covered in bandages? Does your person have blonde hair, red eyes?” The game vanished in a puff of blue smoke. “Nope, haven’t seen him!”

late, what are you talking about, a wizard is never late...

It had been several days since Sheik turned down Aladdin's offer to accompany her and set out across the Calm Lands alone. To her great surprise, she'd found more than monsters the further she traveled. There were people here, going about their business as if unaware of the castle and perfectly at home. People, and chocobos, the strange riding birds that halved the remaining time to the mountains beyond.

They were... tricky to get the hang of. But that was a matter for another thread.

The temperature dropped the further she climbed up the mountain, past the point where her flightless mount could follow. But, eventually, she reached it. And to her surprise, even in this inhospitable climate, she heard voices from within a cave as she passed.

Keeping to the shadows, she investigated, and within a minute or two she'd discovered the hot springs as well. Aladdin was there, but with him was a strange-looking blue creature who, like so many, she couldn't identify. And as luck would have it, the conversation had just turned to her. Perhaps bad luck. The blue man knew a lot more about her and the Sheikah than anyone had since she arrived here. Who was he?

(Probably she was about to find out.)

Genie nodded along to Aladdin’s words, showing concern at the mention of his friend’s trouble. Part of him wanted to scold Aladdin for going out on his own. The other, wished he had dedicated more time to watch over him and insure he kept out of trouble. Although, with Aladdin, that was close to impossible; ‘trouble’ was practically that boy’s middle name. But, to be fair, his heart was in the right place. He sighed, reminded of the discussion he had had with the boy before. Aladdin was so concerned about others, determined to free those trapped inside the castle, Genie wondered if that left room for his friend to care about himself. Still, he had promised to restrain himself from trying to change Aladdin’s decision and to say no more of the subject.

“I’m sure he’s bound to show up.” He replied in an eerily knowing tone regarding Sheik. “Why don’t you ask him yourself?” His eyes slowly wandered past Aladdin and to the shadows which Sheik had taken cover. However, he made no other mention of the ninja’s presence than with his eyes. Far be it for Genie to interrupt Sheik’s spying. Although, in Genie’s opinion, the act of spying on someone usually worked better when those spied on were not aware that they were being watched.

[identity profile] songsandknives.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Sheik cursed silently to herself. Had she really been that careless in choosing cover? Or was it the same faculty that allowed him to know who she was? And most importantly, did he know more than that?

The time for disappearing had passed. She had to know where this blue man's allegiance lay. She eased herself into the light, so that half of her was easily visible to anyone looking that way.

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-03-07 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
A smile tugged at Genie’s lips when Sheik revealed himself from the shadows. He had not expected the warrior to step out so willingly. Of course, he hadn’t exactly given Sheik as much of a choice as the man would have probably liked, but they were past the point to debate such thing. Aladdin knew of his presence now. He nodded to his friend and followed his glance back to Sheik, another nod given as a silent greeting.

“Always room for one more.”

[identity profile] songsandknives.livejournal.com 2011-03-16 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Almost before they'd finished speaking, Sheik leapt forward, and with a midair twist and a slight pop of air, disappeared. In the same instant, she reappeared on a rock a few yards away, crouched with one foot on it and the other on the ground, eyeing Genie warily.

"I've never met you," she said to him, less a declaration of fact than a demand for explanation.

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Unlike Aladdin, Genie did not appear fazed in the slightest by Sheik’s sudden movement. The only real movement he made was to gain further comfort in the hot spring, during which time Aladdin made introductions. He followed his friends glance to Sheik, the ninja’s accusing gaze met with only a smile. For the most part, he appeared rather reserved. However, that never lasted long with Genie. He could only restrain himself for so long before his excitement got the best of him and turned him into the second greatest horror next to the fangirl: the fanboy. … or maybe that was Mary Sue. Genie had far too many run-ins with her that he would have liked to remember. Needless to say, Sheik was in for more than ever expected.

“Are you a real Sheikah?” the genie asked, suddenly appearing by Sheik’s side in a cloud of blue smoke. He wasted no time in invading the warrior’s personal space, eyes practically sparkling as he leaned in closer. Any distance made by the ninja would be cut short, Genie wanting to absorb every last bit of the Sheikah. “I never thought I’d get to meet one in person. Oh, this is totally awesome! If only the guys back in Hyrule history could see me now.” Summoning forth a rounded stone, a similar emblem carved into it as that which Sheik wore, the genie held it out along with a small chisel. “Will you sign my Gossip Stone? Oh, please, oh please, oh please?”

[identity profile] songsandknives.livejournal.com 2011-03-23 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
What. Just... what. Personal space, dude.

Sheik leaned away from Genie's fanboy assault, to the point where she was dangerously close to falling off her perch even with her crazy balance. She wasn't about to dignify any of those bizarre questions with an answer, and besides, his breath...

If only to try and make Genie back off, she accepted the Gossip Stone, even though chiseling her name into it was not only impractical but stupid. Instead, she turned her gaze to his companion. "Aladdin," she said darkly, "you certainly keep strange company."

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-03-25 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
The genie had either not heard Aladdin’s words or chosen to ignore them, his attention appearing solely on Sheik. And while the Sheikah appeared anything but impressed by his display, Genie was the complete opposite. He sat- well, levitated in place and took in every detail of Sheik, looking at the warrior as though they were an idol. Sheikah were, after all, legendary. However, if Sheik felt uncomfortable, it was only to be expected. He was very… That was to say Genie always… Well, what Al had said.

"I am the bubblegum stuck to your shoe." Yeah, he was also the neurosis that required a five hundred dollar an hour shrink.

[identity profile] songsandknives.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Sheik grimaced beneath her face mask and got to her feet, taking a few steps away from Genie before she faced him again. Close proximity with a normal person was bad enough. But this being, who had both an intense interest in her, and enough magic to cloy even her dulled senses... she couldn't take him as lightly as he was taking her. His enthusiasm didn't render him less of a potential threat; if anything, it rendered him more of one.

Eyeing him coldly, she folded her arms across her chest. "... You are of Hyrule, then?" she asked. She'd heard legends of genies and so forth in her travels, of course, but they were old and obscure.

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
“Nay, thou art from nowhere thee would knoweth.” He replied playfully, though most sincere. “I have travelled to all corners of the world, the universe, longer than time itself has even existed. Boy, do that makes me sound old. I’m not going grey, am I? Showing signs of wrinkles? Smell of prunes or denture cream?” Genie asked worriedly, examining both his hair and face in handheld mirror. He stretched his face with his free hand, as though to rid it of said wrinkles before checking his said odour. Then, lastly, tossed the mirror aside and held an ear trumpet next to his ear as he leaned in slightly closer to Sheik to hear the ninja’s response. A response which he did not even bother to wait for before he spoke again. “Common error: I’m a genie, not a ghost: blue skin's good for the ultra-violet rays, bro. I spend afternoons fulfill wishes not haunting the living. But, all that aside, trust me, Hyrule is just the beginning of what I know.”

Turning back to Aladdin, Genie poked the boy in the nose. “Hyrule is just short of the second star to the right… Or is that Never Land? None the less, it’s a magical kingdom commonly known for its ‘beautiful and prosperous land’. Lush forests, tall mountains, vast lakes, a rather barren desert... You get the idea. All ruled by the Royal Family of Hyrule.” His hooded gaze flickered back to Sheik. “It’s said to connect to other realms through magical artifacts and portals. Of course, anywhere magic is present some higher power is sure to be present, even if only in myth alone…”
