Enter Toph

Character: Toph Bei Fong
Content: The Blind Bandit Arrives
Setting: Around Muspelheim Gate
Time: Late morning/Early Afternoon

Toph Bei Fong was not one to get lost. Thanks to her earthsight through her earthbending, she could always 'see' where she was. This situation though, was a little different.

The twelve-year-old remembered very well that she had fallen asleep in a cave with her friends, Aang, Sokka, and Katara. When she awakened however, they were nowhere to be...felt, and the area around her was much different from where she had slept the previous night.

Toph immediately got herself up, noticing hat she was outside of a large city that seemed to be encased in a large dome. If her friends were anywhere, it would be inside. Toph approached the gate, which she felt as an opening in the dome. She also felt heat and heard the crackling of fire, but she had a very strong feeling that this wasn't the Fire Nation. There was a line waiting outside, and she joined it, not trusting anyone to ask where she was or how she had gotten there.

It didn't take long for Toph to get to the front of the line. A person cheerfully asked her name while handing her a flyer, which she immediately threw on the ground. It was hard to read when your eyes didn't work. "Why does it matter to you?" She didn't receive an answer, but was pushed along, and a rectangular object shoved in her hands. The person who handed it to her said something about an 'electronic journal' and being able to use it to communicate. Toph was then shoved out of line, just inside the dome of the city.

"Great." Toph tumbled the object in her hands. If she really could communicate with it, maybe she could get a hold of Aang or the others. Not knowing how to work it, she yelled at the journal. "Hey, Twinkletoes! Where are you?!" She waited to get an answer, and tried yelling again after a while, but nothing happened. Frustrated, Toph picked a road and to walk down and started to search for her friends.

He was almost emotionally hurt by the rejection to his insistence, but instead allowed the callousness of his near-millenarian existence to wash over him. It still didn't make the blows to him hurt any less. The air released all at once from his lungs as his famished gut began to bruise. When he felt the rock wrap around his ankles like a solid bear trap, his sneer grew. He stood upright and looked desperately at her as she gave her latest warning.

He began rubbing his palms together and built up a strange energy between his fingers that crackled sharply like wood snapping. Suddenly, a single palm extended and shot a small bolt of blue lightning across the ground Toph began walking toward and ignited a row of flame. "JUST. LISTEN!"

The Master smiled as the fire from his bolt finished its quick burn near the girl's feet. "Was that so hard?" he said sarcastically. He began a slinky walk towards her like a tiger approaching its prey. The crackling knuckles were hardly anything of a threat to him. Human threats were just as pointless as anything else to The Master, no matter where they came from.

He crouched in front of her and put his eyes on level with hers, even if the image would be lost on Toph. "When I was your age, my elders had me look into the heart of time itself. It swirled in my mind and all I could see and hear become meaningless. There was only this." He held up his hands to the temples of his head and pressed his palms against them like a vice. "They never ever stop. They've been their all my life and they'll never stop."

The Master was ready to draw a hand back to slap the girl but restrained himself from acting too rash against someone who could finally understand. "Voices? Please. You humans think you have all the right answers, when you don't even know how tiny you are, and I'm not just making jokes about your height."

He began to notice he was tapping the rhythm that was in his head through his hands on the edge of the rock bench Toph had constructed. "That. The drums. Can't you hear them? You have superior senses through your blindness. You have to hear the drums. You hear them, don't you?"

The Master snapped back at her when she provided nothing but denial to his pleadings. "NO! LISTEN!" he yelled. He began to find it intolerable that there was a little girl who found everything he said to be maniacal ramblings and lunatic confessions. He could feel her stupid human convictions against him and it wore on his patience.

"I was human once. A miserable excuse of a man. They were the worst years of my life. Fiddling with existance and wishing the answers would come to me. Humans are disgrace to the whole of time and space. They destroy. They kill, maim, slice, consume, and offer nothing in return. I am greater. I am greater than those who are great," he said as he placed his own hand over his chest. "I possess the two hearts of the eldest race in history. You'll feel it, you'll hear it...if you only listen."

The Master turned to Toph, sneering again. "The human race is nothing but a pile of greedy monkeys looking to eat and start wars. They know nothing of war. They think of themselves as warriors. Armored, ruthless warriors. They could never be true warriors. Not like me," he said, adding the last note as he turned away from her.

"They don't hear the drums, calling them back to the battlefield. Calling them back to service. I hear it every day of my life. The drums of the greatest war in the whole of time. That is my heartbeat. The noise in my head is something different. It's who I am, it's all that I'll ever be." He rose in front of her, enforcing an intimidating presence as much as he could. "It's more like a ticking bomb. A time bomb. And you know what?"

He smiled and chuckled through the next sentence. "I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO GO OFF! HAHAHA!" The last laugh created a tear. With the sound of fabric tearing, The Master's flesh became translucent and exposed a skeletal face with deadly eyes staring down the young earthbender.

The Master started his leap the moment Toph began dismissing him and came down after some time right beside where she had walked, sending a small shockwave through the ground as he cracked the floor. He stepped toward her and continued to smile. "The revelations are only beginning. My ascendance is coming, and you will know my name," he said calmly but cheerfully. "And my name...is The Master."

Another leap into the air, and any trace of him was gone.
