C'thulhu, Shm'thulhu [Complete]

Character(s): Ursula, Mao
Content: The Sea Witch arrives in Paixao!
Setting: Joutenheim Gate
Time: Week 14, Night
Warnings: Creepy tentacles?

In the shadowy depths of the ocean surrounding Paixao, Ursula slowly opened her eyes. Unlike the ocean she was used to, these waters were unnaturally empty of any sea life other than herself. As her eyes adjusted to the dim light of the moon shining through the water, flat sand far below her stretched out behind her until it faded into the darkness. Pursing her lips, Ursula turned slowly, gracefully in the water, taking stock of her sparse surroundings.

If this was the afterlife, someone had a poor sense of humor.

The last thing she recalled, the little spiky-haired brat and his friends had spoiled all her plans. They killed her precious darlings, her poopsies! Taken back the trident she worked so hard to get! Pushed her into the cavernous shadows where she'd fallen for...such a long time. Then to have the darkness fade and to end up in these strange waters?

Growling to herself, Ursula's tentacles curled into themselves briefly as she imagined strangling the so-called heroes. But! Business before pleasure. She pushed herself gracefully through the water and broke the surface, tossing back the short white hair that flopped forward onto her face. What was that in the distance? A human kingdom? She narrowed her eyes, feeling more than one familiar aura of darkness.

Great. She was here, too. Well, that explained everything. The snooty Mistress of Evil had no doubt summoned her here after that spectacular failure. As Ursula made short work of swimming to the shore, opting to use the river that seemed to go right up to the entrance, she was not relishing the meeting to come. If she could feel Maleficent's presence, surely she'd known she was here by now, so there was no choice but to obey for now. Play the role of the willing lackey until the opportune moment.

Slowly rising out of the river, her tentacles slapped wetly onto the sand. Reaching up to pat at her hair, Ursula moved over the grass with supernatural ease, tentacles curling and twisting under her in organized chaos. Approaching a small line of humans, her red-nailed hand roughly gripped one of humans by the shoulder and tossed him aside. Her tentacles did the same, grabbing and tossing and pushing people to the side as she cut to the front of the line.

"Hello, hon," she cooed at the trembling gatekeeper. Her hand shot out and gripped his chin. With a hard squeeze, she lifted him up closer to her face, made more terrible by the malevolent grin. "Would you be so kind as to tell me where Maleficent is?"

If one were to listen carefully, they might be able to hear an odd, slightly disturbing, huffing sound near the sea witch. His eyes hidden behind the glare of his glasses(somehow managing to occur even at night), Mao eyed the odd lifeform who had entered the city, a fascinated, frightening grin on the boy's face.

What a wonderful specimen! He had yet to see something like it before. Was it, perhaps, a demon? Some sort of previously undiscovered creature? It seemed sentient... And that aura! There was something decidedly dark about it, but powerful, too. He had to investigate further!

Maybe these people were on to something when they said he should go out more, after all.

Mao's eyes widened as he was suddenly pulled to the creature, but he quickly recovered, studying Ursula curiously. It seemed to be female, but he wasn't entirely sure. "You," he replied, simply, quickly, before the questions began. "I've never seen a creature quite like you. Where are you from? What exactly is your species? Do you have any secret natural weapons hidden on you anywhere?"

Why would he be afraid of her? It wasn't like she was stronger than him. Though the way she kept trying to push him around with those tentacles was really starting to get annoying. "Oi, stop that."

Mao listened closely to her response, a small spark appearing in his eyes as Ursula mentioned she was the only one of her kind. Excellent. It even excused her not giving up whatever weapons she had. ...Maybe it was hidden where she put her journal. Some kind of interdimensional pocket?

"And what are your people, exactly?"

Mao frowned as she tugged at his shirt, tensing as she spoke. He pulled his head away with a scoff. To most demons, that would be a compliment. In his case... But what did she know? Just because she could sense the darkness in his heart. It wasn't like he didn't know it was there anyway. That stupid, useless power. His power.

But like hell he was going to let her know that. Interesting specimen or not, she had no business asking those kinds of questions. "Why would they need to?" Mao asked, looking as though the questions didn't bother him, though he spoke distantly. "They make excellent specimens. Weak, easy to catch... If only they didn't disappear so easily when I try to dissect them."

"I can control it just fine," he snapped automatically. He didn't want someone like her coming anywhere near his heart. "There's probably some kind of catch, anyway." At least there was no way anyone could actually get inside of his heart while he was here. He'd had enough trouble with that back at the Evil Academy.

Mao drew himself a little straighter, resting a hand on his hip. "Besides, a demon's supposed to have some sort of darkness within him."

"What kind of idiot do you take me for?" he asked, scowling at the sea witch. "Messing around with people's hearts is dangerous, anyway. Why should I trust you?" What was with all of these people and hearts? Sure, even Mao would admit they were interesting enough, but he knew well enough that they were delicate. Heart Banks were made for a reason.

A soft "tch," and Mao crossed his arms. "And what if I do? Like I said, I can control it just fine. I don't need to use that power."

"Yeah. What's this obsession with darkness, anyway? Those Heartless, you, what happened in the city... What the hell does it matter? It's weird. And what would you even do with it?" She probably wouldn't give him a straight answer--people seemed to be horrible at that in this city--and whatever she did say would probably be some sort of lie, but he still wanted to know. He was curious.

Well, that response was worse than he could have imagined. Ugh, why the hell did he even think he could get anything useful out of these people? Did everyone have to be so damn cryptic? Mao was starting to think it was better to just try and figure out these things on his own, or at least see if Almaz and Princess found anything out.

The young demon stood glaring at where Ursula had disappeared for awhile longer before storming off back to his lab.
