Little White Shadow [Complete]

Character(s): Laharl and Timon.
Content: Convinced something is terribly wrong with Timon, Laharl decides to go check up on him yell at him.
Setting: Reaper's Ramen [G9]
Time: Night, Week 8
Warnings: None

He didn’t understand why they had let him go, but he wasn’t about to argue about it either. There was no point; what was done was done, or as Timon would put it, ‘it’s in the past’. No reason to worry, no reason to care. It mattered little if he was with Larxene or Sephiroth, Vexen or Vyers… The Organization was bound to treat him less kindly, as well as considered an enemy, but that didn’t matter. Nothing mattered. He didn’t care, he couldn’t care and it was thanks to them. They had done something to him. The overexposure to light by Vexen’s hand had taken its toll on him. It wrapped itself around his mind, attacking both mentality and body. It swelled his heart tremendously, in the mean time drifting his thoughts under a blanket of pseudo-happiness.

That of course did not include Larxene’s contributions, for she too had been kind enough to volunteer in reshaping the meerkat. She heartlessly shattered him, if only to start with a clean canvas, before educating him on the truth he previously tried so hard to ignore. He now knew, and acknowledged, that any ridiculous fantasy to achieve a status as high as Mayor was to be abandoned immediately. That he was pathetic and weak. He wasn’t a hero; he couldn’t save anyone, never mind himself. He knew his place, at least partially. He would not stray from it anymore.

When he had re-entered the city it seemed fate that he would find himself at the very same gate he had first entered Paixao through only years ago. Nifleheim was the same as he remembered, however he could not say the same about himself. The city had changed him, even before the Organization had. Unknown to him, such trials he would have faced in the Pride Lands had found him to Paixao. Responsibility, friendship, courage… Age had followed him too; he was not the young meerkat he had once been. His fur had also notably begun to lose its vibrant colour. Whether or not it is an affect of the light within his system or his age however was unclear.

Timon did not stop to dwell on these thoughts, he entered the city, awarded a new journal in the process, and begun an aimless journey. It was not long before he found the little device demanding his attention, the voices of concerned –quickly to grow angry- visitors asking where he had gone. He carelessly shared what he knew, in return reminded how hungry and tired he had grown by a particular nightmaren. As a result he wandered toward the nearest food outlet, Reapers Ramen. Unfortunately in the time it took him to reach the shop it had already closed when he had reached it. However that did not cause him to stray from the building. In agreement to both Laharl and NiGHTS he promised to stay where he was and rest he simply curled up where he was on the pavement and sleep while he awaited the demons arrival.

The Overlord had noticed something had been off with Timon from the very moment they'd started communicating. Timon's reaction to Laharl's suggestion that he'd go take over City Hall had clinched it. Laharl knew how Timon would've reacted to that, and wishing him good luck, definitely wasn't it. Something was VERY wrong with the meerkat. The Organization had definitely done something to him, but what? It wasn't anything like what they'd done to him and Flonne, most certainly.

Not that Laharl was really worried, of course. Why should he be? That meerkat had been nothing but a pain in his ass since he had arrived here! It wasn't like he cared or anything. Of course not.

Too bad that voice deep down inside him, that one he tried so often to ignore, was being particularly loud today. It was so annoyingly pointing out how he wouldn't be doing this if he didn't care.

Well, whatever, he was almost there now, so he might as well go through with it, he figured as he looked around for the meerkat's small form. Of course, the dark wasn't exactly making it easy, but in what little light there was was enough to reveal the small creature curled up on the pavement.

'Idiot,' Laharl thought as he approached, squatting down beside the meerkat. He'd told him to stay put, but he hadn't meant to fall asleep in the open like this! Anyone walking along could just do anything to him like this! Hell, if Timon wasn't messed up, the Overlord might've been tempted to make good on one of his threats and kick the meerkat. He'd had it coming more than once. Luckily, the thought this night was fleeting.

"Oi," Laharl said aloud, lightly poking Timon, attempting to awaken him.
