A break from danger [Active]

Character(s): Sora, Kairi, Riku
Content: The trio finds some time to get together and relax like old times.
Setting: Vanaheim to the beach outside
Time: Backdated; Week 2, before the "party"
Warnings: None.

Kairi rushed from the train to the gate area as soon as it stopped. She was certain she was going to be late… hopefully the boys hadn’t been waiting too long. See wanted to see them! Sora and Riku… it had been awhile since the three of them could just hang out together and relax. Forget about everything that’s been happening, the Organization, Maleficent, the Heartless… Yes. They needed this. The other two probably were taking a lot on their plates.

She buzzed around through the natives, making her way to the front and looking around. “Sora!” she called, her voice laced with a laugh. “You said you’d beat all of us, so come on out!” Hopefully he really hadn’t gotten himself lost. He should learn how to ask for directions, really. The natives went out of their way to be helpful, after all.

… Kind of like Kairi.

Sora had rushed to the gate as quickly as he could--which, of course, meant flying there. And so he was perched on a statue above the gate, grinning down at Kairi as he watched her approach. He really was getting the hang of the layout of this place. It was easier when he could fly over it, though.

"Hey, Kairi!" he called, waving excitedly. "Up here! I told you I'd get here first!" He leapt off the building and dove down to meet her, still grinning. "I haven't seen Riku yet."

Riku had taken a seat in one of the last cars of the train. He was certain Kairi had been on the train--could've met up with her as soon as he had gotten off.

He needed a bit longer to think. To try and deal. Hadn't they gone over this already? They hadn't cared about what he had done. He had tried to make up for it, hadn't he? It was over and done with.

He walked, trying to banish the last of those feelings. By the time he got to the gate, he felt calmer. "Just like old times," he murmured, looking around for Kairi and Sora. He spotted them together and immediately walked over.

"Hey, you two! Managed to get here first for once, huh?"

"I flew!" Sora said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. And then, noticing Riku, "I totally beat you."

Sora landed on the ground with a slightly heavier thud than he might have had he been paying better attention, but he ignored it in favor of all but tackling his two friends and hugging the both of them. He had been worried they'd all be apart again.

Riku stiffened as Kairi hugged him, briefly unsure of what to do. He returned the embrace after another second, letting out a breath. "Sorry," he murmured. "I know I'm never around when you guys really need me." He was still getting over that habit.

When Sora crashed into them, his bad mood faded entirely, and he tried to throw an arm around his best friend to catch his balance, laughing a little.

"It was just a test," he scoffed. "Glad to see you didn't get lost this time."

"It's not cheating, there wasn't a no flying rule," Sora said, as if making such a rule should be second nature. "I got a new keyblade, see?" He held out the intricately crafted thing, grinning proudly. "It was from NiGHTS. I can fly with it!"

He didn't explain it beyond that--didn't understand it beyond that, really. Something probably connecting to his heart and allowing for the extraordinary keyblade-related powers. Either way, he could fly now!

He stuck his tongue out at Riku. "Of course I didn't!"

"I never made that rule. It doesn't count," Riku said, eyeing the new Keyblade with interest. He remembered being able to fly--and shoved the memory aside a moment later.

"Think you could give Kairi a lift, Sora?" He turned toward Kairi and smiled teasingly at her. "How about it? Think you'd trust this bum enough to let him fly you around?"

"You never said it didn't count until right now," Sora protested, and then grinned at Kairi. "Okay, here we go! Hold on!"

And with that as a warning, he scooped up his friend even as he leapt off the ground and into the air, like a jump that never quite got around to remembering gravity. At first they shot up quickly, as Sora adjusted to the extra weight, and then he was hovering just above Riku's head, grinning.

"See, it's great!" He flew in a little circle to show her.

"Just because I didn't say it doesn't mean it could count in the first place," he said, stepping backwards and watching as the duo hovered nearby.

"It's safe, Kairi. I promise. Even if Sora's silly enough to drop you, I can catch you," he continued, smiling faintly at the two of them.

"Thanks for the confidence, you guys," Sora said dryly, dipping down to give Kairi a bit of a scare--though of course he didn't once loosen his grip on her--before he flew up again.

"Think you can beat us to the beach on foot?" he challenged Riku.

"It'll keep you from getting cocky," Riku replied, watching carefully as Sora flew around with Kairi. He thought about how to keep up with the others on foot, looking forward and gauging the distance.

He was used to racing, but this was ridiculous.

But when could he ever lose to Sora without at least trying?

"I've already lost once. It'd look pretty bad if I did again, don't you think?" he shot back, grinning.
