Sunlight blinded her as she slowly blinked her red brown eyes open. Squinting against the sun and shielding herself from the glare, Rue looked around. Her eyes scanned the lines of people, all of whom appeared to be waiting to enter a giant dome. Her eyes lingered over the gate the people were entering through; it looked like something out of a story - two huge giants, crossing clubs with the other.
Rising, she brushed the dust from her gold ruffled gown. Where was she? This wasn't a dream, was it? Rue chuckled to herself. Of course; that had to be it. She closed her eyes again and expected to wake up back home in her palace with Mytho. Opening her eyes, the scene had not changed. Alarmed, Rue tried again to wake herself. Nothing.
Panic knotted in her stomach. She gathered her skirts and ran towards the gate.
"Excuse me? Excuse me!" she shakily called to the vendor at the gate, not registering how rude she was being as she cut in front of the line - much to the annoyance of the bystanders. "Where am I? What's going on? Why am I-?"
"Name?" he asked disinterestedly, effectively cutting her off.
Rue paused and gathered herself before answering, "My name is Rue."
The vendor wrote her name down and handed her a small metal device. Then he ignored her completely as he resumed the same business with whomever Rue had cut in front of.
"Wait," she protested. "Where am I? What is this place?"
Still he ignored her as the person in line behind her pushed past her to enter the gate. Rue stood and continued to ask him questions that continued to go unanswered. Those in line either moved around her or roughly moved her aside. Becoming fed up, Rue reached across the check-in table and grabbed the man by his arm. He only ripped away from her grip and continued as though she hadn't touched him.
It was then she noticed the pamphlets on the table. There was a great variety of them - one about hotels, another about restaurants, and so on. Uncertainly she grabbed one of each before turning to face the large gate into the dome. Holding her brochures, and the strange device the vendor had given her, in one hand and her skirts in the other, she took a deep breath and marched herself through the gate and into the unknown for some answers.

He was passing by the gate by chance when he saw a distressed looking young woman. She was dressed in very fancy clothing and it suddenly reminded him of Arthur's court which he had left quite some time ago. Merlin, never one to be shy, approached her, "Excuse me, miss, but you do seem a bit distressed." He folded his arms behind his back, trying to appear like a kind old man...which...he was (most of the time), "Anything old Merlin can help you with, m'dear?"

"Oh," she breathed. In all honesty, she hadn't expected any sort of assistance from anyone. She had already made a preconceived notion about the people in this place - cold and emotionless. The place, however, could only be noted as confusing and a bit lonely, despite the people who flocked its domes.
Rue opened her mouth to speak, then closed it again. She debated for a moment, then remembered her manners. "I'm sorry," she said as her skirts rustled when she curtsied. "I'm," she hesistated, "Well, I'm a bit-" she tried to explain; Rue had never been one to ask for help. "I'm just uncertain as to where I am. And I don't know how I got here," she began to ramble. "I was going to dance with Mytho when all of the sudden I was here."
She put her hand over her mouth. "I'm sorry," Rue said again. "I suppose I'm just confused."

Merlin adjusted his spectacles, "Well, Miss, you are in a place called Paixao, it's another world I'm afraid and one we seem to be quite stuck in. I can't really explain how you were brought here, I'm afraid that's a mystery even to myself." He nodded in understanding, "So it's quite understandable that you are confused, happens to the best of us, I'm afraid, but that's where knowledge and trying to learn something comes in handy."

In an odd, roundabout kind of way, the old man reminded her of Drosselmeyer. This fellow, however, was certainly much kinder than the tragedy-driven story writer. "Another story," she whispered.
"Paixao, you say?" she asked a bit louder. She remembered the brochures in her hand and examined them again. "Is that what all of these are talking about? I've certainly never heard of such a place." She remembered the journal and looked at it again as well. She still had no answer for it.

He nodded, "Yes, the brochures will probably help you understand this place a little more but I can try to be of some assistance as well. I've never heard of this place either...well, wait, that's not entirely accurate, I had a vision about it but that's aside from the point."

"You can see the future?"
