Light in the Darkness [Active]

Character(s): Lexaeus and Sara Sidle
Content: After her psychological torture at the hands of Larxene, Sara now finds herself in Lexaeus's care.
Setting: xxxxx
Time: xxxxx
Warnings: Experimentation

Lexaeus moved through the lab methodically, taking his time to ensure everything was in exactly the place it needed to be. There was no rush, no sloppiness, no excess, only cold clinical science. Unlike some of his comrades, Lexaeus did not see this as a chance to act out rage or curiosity on a helpless subject, merely a means to an end. He would see if this path would lead him to his ultimate objective, and if not he would abandon it for another.

For many, this cold practicality would be even more terrifying than the glee of a sadist.

The lab he had prepared was sparse and dedicated singularly to the task at hand. The bed in the center actually looked reasonably comfortable, and the light's and colors of the walls were a series of shifting blues, calibrated to have a calming effect on the subject, almost as if they were laying in a field, or on a raft in a lake. There were no menacing shadows, and in the background classical music could be heard playing softly from the speakers.

The only visible machinery rested on a small rolling table, a medium sized tube glass, full up a bright shimmering light, and tipped with a suction cup on one end, and a plunger on the other. It would almost seem comical in another context, like some child's toy. Next to the device rested a thick folder with the words Sara Sidle written on them, which Lexaeus had already taken the time to memorize. Still, there was no need to take unnecessary risks here. Beyond that there were a few basic medical tools, the sort that would be used in a doctor's checkup.

Taking off his small reading glasses and placing them in his pocket, Lexaeus reached out with one hand and snapped his fingers. A second later a number of Dusks shimmered into existence.

"Acquire Subject Sidle and bring her to this location unharmed," he ordered in a rumbling voice, before turning back to his preparations. The Dusks swayed for a moment, their voices an empty whisper, before turning to do their master's bidding.

Sara lay in her cell, staring across the cell at the wall. All she could think of was how Larxene had broken her, proving to her once and for all that she was worthless and weak. She couldn't even protect Greg when they were in the lab earlier. Now, he was dead, and she was here, still trapped and unable to find her way out.

In her hand she clutched the piece of paper that Larxene had put in her pocket, reminding her of just how weak she really was. She turned to the side when she sensed something there, seeing some nobodies standing there, looking at her again.

"No, not again." She whispered, trying to manage to get away from them, but failing as she felt them grab at her to take her somewhere else. "Please, just leave me alone!" she begged, although she knew it was fruitless. She could only hope this wasn't as bad as before.

Sara let the explanation that the man provided to her sink in as she tried the restraints on her wrists. Tight, just like before. She looked up at him, fatigue showing in her eyes at this point. She really was past the point of caring, but when he said what he was going to do, her inner scientist woke up.

"You're going to do what now?" She'd never heard of excess 'darkness' in someone. She wanted to know a bit more at this point.

It was interesting to watch from her perspective, as the ball of darkness formed in his hand. She felt different, the emotions that had all built up from being around Larxene were gone, and she felt different than she had at any point in her life after her father died.

"That..." She said, staring directly at the darkness. "Was all inside me?" She couldn't believe it, really. She knew her job had taken it's toll, but hadn't realized it had taken that much of one.

Sara watched as he worked, placing the darkness....her darkness and placing it in the jar. It seemed strange to see all of that come from her, and then placed into that container. Then, he acted like a doctor, checking all her vitals, which was something she was expecting.

"Wait, I thought you were working on balancing it again..." She said out loud, looking up at him. "I'm guessing that's not true?" She still wasn't really struggling, just trying to sort things out.

"The second step?" She watched as he walked over and got the device. It looked kind of ominous to her, especially as he placed it over her heart and pressed down on the plunger.

It was an interesting sensation to Sara. First, there was a bit of pain, a shock from so much light flooding into her. Second, she felt like she was floating slightly, before she felt like she settled down again, but still felt like she as higher than a kite...

...At least from the experiences others had told her about.

"Like I'm higher than a kite, to be completely honest." She mumbled, trying to somewhat enjoy the feeling, instead of focusing on what was really going on around her. "Somewhat of an out of body experience, where I don't feel like I'm fully connected to my physical self."

Sara didn't move very far, well, she didn't move far at all. She stayed sitting in the chair, not even making to move to run at all. She remember what had tried when she tried to get away from Larxene. She didn't need that happening again.

"So, what now?" She asked, opening her eyes to look over at him. "And I'm not running, I learned my lesson last time."

"One end to the other? Ok." She stood up and did as she was told, probably stumbling, but not noticing. She didn't care. If she did as she was told, she'd make it out of this ordeal alive. At least, that was her mental mantra about the entire thing.

When she finished, she turned to look at the captor. "Anything else?" This was getting tiring, and she wanted it to be done, in a way.

Sara nodded, then turned to look at the closet, but stopped. It was too small, she couldn't go in there, no matter how much he tried to get her to. She wouldn't be able to breathe, she would choke...or she would be found hiding.

"I...I can't..." She said, actually taking a step away from the open door. "I'm sorry." She didn't know why she was apologizing, these people didn't need it.

"I'm still choosing not to." She stated, taking another step backwards from the closet. There were too many memories trying to surface about closets and how she shouldn't be in them.

"My past be damned."

Coward.

That word. She hated that word. Growling, she turned back towards the closet, memories of her father using 'coward' while hitting her when she was younger.

"I am not a coward." She said, eyes glinting with something as she made a fist, walking into the closet area, head held high. She'd prove that she wasn't a coward, like her father made her believe when she was younger.
