An Interlude [Active]
Characters: The Doctor and Lara Croft
Content: Tea time. :D Lara and the Doctor have tea while they wait for Sonic.
Setting: Cafe Ersesat (Once closest to Niflheim gate)
Time: Some time. :Db
Warnings:Britishness None!
The Doctor hadn't originally planned on going to the church. At the time he'd been on the way to meet Donna and then find Rosette. In the end there'd been no search needed as Donna had somehow been a step ahead of him. Picking up Donna and Rosette, he'd suddenly found he wasn't sure what to do next.
His interest had been perked about the church outside the domes, so that had seemed a good a place to next investigate.
The Time Lord just hoped his companions wouldn't get into trouble in the meanwhile. He was a little wary of leaving Rose and Donna in the TARDIS. Companions never liked to stay put. At least, however, they were together so if they did run off they'd not be alone. That's what he was hoping, anyways.
Since they were waiting to hear from the blue fellow, Sonic, he'd suggested getting some tea while they waited.
The cafe wasn't far from where he'd left the TARDIS, so he'd already arrived and had chosen a quiet table and ordered a pot of tea so it would have plenty of time to steep before Lara arrived.
So, casually leaning back in his chair, his journal in his hands, reading through entries and such. He had heard the journals wouldn't work outside the domes, so best to be up-to-date before they headed off, he supposed.

Add that in with the fact that they could perhaps uncover a few of the mysteries of this place, and you had a rather pleased Englishwoman indeed. It was in this cheerful state that the archaeologist headed to the cafe in question, having taken the train. Her pistols were, as usual, strapped to her thighs, and she had the rest her gear on, as well - judging by the claw marks in the church floor, it was best that she came fully prepared for any conflicts that might spring up.
The woman strode confidently to the cafe and approached what appeared to be a British man, smiling. "Excuse me," she began, "am I correct in assuming you're the Doctor?"
no subject
"That's right," the Doctor replied, brightly. "And I suppose I'd be correct in assuming you're Lara?"
no subject
"Are you enjoying the city so far?" she inquired politely, figuring that she should at least take a stab at conversation.

It wasn't too often the Doctor was able to just sit down and meet someone like this. Meetings tended to involve excitement. Aliens. Monsters. Running. That was a big one. There was always something. And even the times all did seem calm, it rarely lasted.
Of course, not that he was complaining. He wasn't complaining in the least. He just hoped he hadn't just jinxed himself or something, not that he really believed in that or anything. but he still hoped it would remain this... pleasant.
"I don't know about enjoying, but there's certainly been no lack of excitement," the Doctor said, thinking of all that had happened so far.

Lara did, of course, notice the tea, but she delayed pouring some for the two of them in favor of the topic. "Quite," she responded. "There does seem to be quite a lot going on, especially with Maleficent and her associates." Even so, the witch didn't seem to be doing much so far, and Lara wondered if she was simply biding her time - a thought that seemed likely, considering the wall of thorns around City Hall.
no subject
The Disney villains showing up like that had greatly excited him as much as it worried him. Especially the fact they were working together. They were all from different, well, stories, right? How did they all seem to know each other?
Maleficent was clearly the leader, but Hades and Jafar weren't the sort to work beneath others. What kind of partnership was this?
At least he had a good idea what they were up against, if nothing else, unlike the Organization, who's abilities were still rather a lot of question marks.
"I imagine we'll find out soon enough. At least, if nothing else, they're distracting the Organization. I can't imagine they're too happy about this either."
no subject
If nothing else, it was a challenge, and Lara greatly enjoyed those. Perhaps once they had unlocked the mystery of the strange church outside of the domed city, she would look into it. At the mention of the Organization, Lara gave the Doctor an interested look. "Oh, that group. I don't suppose you'd be interested in telling me more about them, perhaps? I'm afraid I only know a little about Larxene; she sent strange creatures after me when I first arrived." That, of course, was something the archaeologist was unlikely to forget.
no subject
Ah, now, the Organization. That was something even the Doctor didn't know a great deal about. "I'm afraid I don't know a great deal other than what I've read on the journal system. According to them there's 13 of them. Larxene certainly seems to get around. I've only bumped into one. Don't know his name but his abilities..."
A frown appeared on the Doctor's face, for a moment looking far more serious and dark than a moment before, "He was able to stop time."
That worried the Doctor more than anything. To have an ability like that...
"He also had an ability to create a kind of temporary spatial distortion," he continued on.
no subject
Someone who could stop time? There was a new one - well, sort of. There were stories about time-travel and the like all over the world, and Lara could recall at least a few instances in which she'd heard of them personally. "That's odd... I wonder if he has some sort of device or magical artifact." She noted the look on the Doctor's face and nodded, her own look serious. "It does seem to be quite the bothersome group," she mused, "but if I may ask, what do you mean by 'spatial distortion'?"
no subject
"It means they can likely get anywhere in the city in almost an instant, which is quite the advantage," he continued. If they created this distortions at a whim, they could pop out of anywhere, literially. It was like having a teleportation device at their means.
no subject
Her eyes narrowed and she got back to the subject. "There are certainly a lot of uses for such an ability," she replied. "I suppose they've been taking full advantage of it?"
no subject
"As for stone dais... No, I can't say I've any," the Doctor replied, obviously wondering why she would be asking about something like that. Although the architecture of this place certainly leant itself to such things, he couldn't say he'd seen any.
no subject
"I see," she replied, "thank you."
no subject
Instead he simply nodded, eyes falling to the table and his mood seemed to suddely bright as he realized something. The tea. He had completely forgotten about it. "Oh, right! The tea! Good and steeped now, I'd say," he said, reaching for the pot, and set about pooring two cups. "Got a bit distracted there, sorry about that."
no subject
Lara laughed. "Yes," she teased good-naturedly, "I'm sure it's ready." The Englishwoman smiled and nodded. "It's quite all right," she replied. "I've been rather absorbed in our conversation, myself."
no subject
Taking a sip of his own, his expression looked cheerful as he placed down the cup. "Ah, not bad," he commented, "Not bad at all."
The food here was another mystery he wondered about. All this food and drink, but where did it come from? It was just another piece of the puzzle in need of solving.
no subject
She took a sip, smiling softly to herself. "Yes," she agree, "it's rather lovely, isn't it?" Still, the fact that there were no real gardens or livestock anywhere troubled Lara - how did those in the city get what they needed?
no subject
Wait. They'd said something about tea. That'd be at a cafe, right? Either way, that was where he was headed, provided he could find it.
It didn't take long. He'd actually run right past the building before the fact that he'd seen Lara sitting at a table there registered, and he pulled a sharp U-turn in the street, heading back to the cafe and skidding to a stop right in front of the table where the Doctor and Lara were. "There y'are! I thought we were meetin' at the gate!" He looked expectantly and impatiently from Lara to the Doctor and back. "Well, what're we waitin' for? We're burnin' daylight! Let's go!"
no subject
"Oi, hold on a minute, we only just poured our tea," the Doctor 'complained', indicating the tea cup in his other hand. "The church can wait a few minutes more for us to finish, right Lara?" he added, glancing to her.
no subject
Still, the Englishwoman was certainly looking forward to another exploration. She had every intention of getting past that door this time.
no subject
"Nah," he turned down Lara's offer. "I'm gonna go for a run. I'll be back." With that, he was off as quick as he came. He wasn't going top speed, sure, but maybe he could use this time to explore the city, maybe go down a few back alleys he hadn't seen before. Hopefully ten or so minutes would be enough time for Lara and the Doctor to finish their tea.
no subject
"Well," he finally said, looking to Lara, vaguely amused now. "I suppose we better drink up so we don't keep our impatient companion waiting too long."
At that remark, he lifted the tea cup back to his lips, taking a larger sip than the time before. "And I guess next time we better order it 'to go'," he added, with a bit more of a grin.
no subject
The archaeologist laughed and nodded. "I suppose so," she replied, delicately sipping at her own tea. "Or not let Sonic know that we're going anywhere until we're finished." It wasn't like he wouldn't find them quickly enough.
no subject
And then he remembered he had other, more pressing things to do, and headed back to the cafe. Thinking time was over - he'd rather take action anyways.
"So!" He skidded to a stop next to the table Lara and the Doctor were sitting at in much the same fashion as he had ten minutes ago. "You guys ready t' go?"
Sorry this is kinda fail guys...
"Well, that was impeccable timing, I must say," he noted, rather amused.
Rising to his feet, and looked to Lara. "I suppose we can't keep our blue friend here waiting any longer, so shall we be off then?" the Time Lord asked. It was a shame they'd ended up on a tight schedule, but it was probably best to head off. He wasn't sure how long this could take, and who knows how long Rose and Donna would stay put.
no subject
She stood, then, stretching idly. "I quite agree, Doctor." To Lara, it was about time to be off, anyway; while she had enjoyed the time in between, she felt excitement build inside of her again and smiled to herself. COmpared to that, tea could wait.
