An Interlude [Active]

Characters: The Doctor and Lara Croft
Content: Tea time. :D Lara and the Doctor have tea while they wait for Sonic.
Setting: Cafe Ersesat (Once closest to Niflheim gate)
Time: Some time. :Db
Warnings: Britishness None!

The Doctor hadn't originally planned on going to the church. At the time he'd been on the way to meet Donna and then find Rosette. In the end there'd been no search needed as Donna had somehow been a step ahead of him. Picking up Donna and Rosette, he'd suddenly found he wasn't sure what to do next.

His interest had been perked about the church outside the domes, so that had seemed a good a place to next investigate.

The Time Lord just hoped his companions wouldn't get into trouble in the meanwhile. He was a little wary of leaving Rose and Donna in the TARDIS. Companions never liked to stay put. At least, however, they were together so if they did run off they'd not be alone. That's what he was hoping, anyways.

Since they were waiting to hear from the blue fellow, Sonic, he'd suggested getting some tea while they waited.

The cafe wasn't far from where he'd left the TARDIS, so he'd already arrived and had chosen a quiet table and ordered a pot of tea so it would have plenty of time to steep before Lara arrived.

So, casually leaning back in his chair, his journal in his hands, reading through entries and such. He had heard the journals wouldn't work outside the domes, so best to be up-to-date before they headed off, he supposed.

Lara enjoyed tea of all kinds; many a time had she been researching in between traveling the world with a nice cup of it on her desk. Since coming to Paixao not very long ago, she hadn't had much time to have any between settling in and exploring the city to relax. Now, of course, she was glad to have a chance for a nice chat with someone she had found, thus far, to be rather interesting.

Add that in with the fact that they could perhaps uncover a few of the mysteries of this place, and you had a rather pleased Englishwoman indeed. It was in this cheerful state that the archaeologist headed to the cafe in question, having taken the train. Her pistols were, as usual, strapped to her thighs, and she had the rest her gear on, as well - judging by the claw marks in the church floor, it was best that she came fully prepared for any conflicts that might spring up.

The woman strode confidently to the cafe and approached what appeared to be a British man, smiling. "Excuse me," she began, "am I correct in assuming you're the Doctor?"

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
Lara nodded, taking a seat across from the man. "That's correct," she responded. "It's lovely to meet you," she continued, offering her hand for the Doctor to shake. He looked to be a pleasant man, and Lara found herself wondering if he had any experience with the sort of expedition they were going to go on. On the other hand, she thought, underestimation is never a good thing. Lara had, after all, come into contact with many dangerous folk who seemed perfectly harmless to begin with.

"Are you enjoying the city so far?" she inquired politely, figuring that she should at least take a stab at conversation.

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Lara, for one, was rather enjoying the city, aside from the fact that it was keeping her from her goal of finding her mother. She thrived on new experiences, and was at her best when overcoming obstacles - that was, in fact, one of the reasons as to why she had been so successful in her excursions.

Lara did, of course, notice the tea, but she delayed pouring some for the two of them in favor of the topic. "Quite," she responded. "There does seem to be quite a lot going on, especially with Maleficent and her associates." Even so, the witch didn't seem to be doing much so far, and Lara wondered if she was simply biding her time - a thought that seemed likely, considering the wall of thorns around City Hall.

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Lara tilted her head to one side, considering. "I must admit that it was," said the Englishwoman after a few moments, "and considering everything that's going on, they certainly took us all by surprise." Brilliant, really, stepping in just as things were at their most chaotic and everyone was on their guard. "I wonder just what they're planning," Lara continued, gesturing idly in the direction of City Hall. "I've heard that no one can get past the wall of thorns that have risen around City Hall."

If nothing else, it was a challenge, and Lara greatly enjoyed those. Perhaps once they had unlocked the mystery of the strange church outside of the domed city, she would look into it. At the mention of the Organization, Lara gave the Doctor an interested look. "Oh, that group. I don't suppose you'd be interested in telling me more about them, perhaps? I'm afraid I only know a little about Larxene; she sent strange creatures after me when I first arrived." That, of course, was something the archaeologist was unlikely to forget.

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Lara smiled. "I must admit that it's quite impressive," she replied. "I've never seen anything like it." But every door had a key, and Lara intended to find it. To her, this was all just another adventure, another step in finding her mother and Avalon. At the mention of Larxene, her eyes narrowed dangerously. "She does sound as though she keeps herself active," she told her companion, leaning back in the chair casually.

Someone who could stop time? There was a new one - well, sort of. There were stories about time-travel and the like all over the world, and Lara could recall at least a few instances in which she'd heard of them personally. "That's odd... I wonder if he has some sort of device or magical artifact." She noted the look on the Doctor's face and nodded, her own look serious. "It does seem to be quite the bothersome group," she mused, "but if I may ask, what do you mean by 'spatial distortion'?"

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Lara raised one slim eyebrow, mulling this latest bit of information over. So teleportation existed here? "That's odd," she murmured, her gaze drifting downward for a few moments. It's highly unlikely, the adventurer thought to herself, but at least it's worth a shot. Looking back up to her companion, Lara asked, "There wouldn't happen to be an ornate stone dais of any kind around here that you know of, would there?" If only she had Excalibur with her, perhaps there was a way to reach Avalon from here. She wouldn't give up, not ever, and she wouldn't stop until she found her mother. Usually Lara would never think of revealing her purposes - and she still wouldn't - but she saw no harm in asking.

Her eyes narrowed and she got back to the subject. "There are certainly a lot of uses for such an ability," she replied. "I suppose they've been taking full advantage of it?"

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Lara made an acknowledging sound, absorbing this information. She tried to recall myths of creatures who could do that, but she could recall nothing at the moment. Easily solved; the archaeologist would simply have to go to the library and search for as long as she had to. She frowned slightly at the revelation regarding the distinct lack of daises in the area, but it was only to be expected.

"I see," she replied, "thank you."

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor's thoughts were indeed right; Lara, despite her own habit for fishing mercilessly for information she needed, was never exactly forthcoming about her own past. As far as she was concerned, in fact, the archaeologist was fully prepared to leave it behind once she'd solved her own mysteries.

Lara laughed. "Yes," she teased good-naturedly, "I'm sure it's ready." The Englishwoman smiled and nodded. "It's quite all right," she replied. "I've been rather absorbed in our conversation, myself."

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-28 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Lara smiled brilliantly at the Doctor. "Thank you," she said, politely, gratefully taking the cup of tea up. It smelled delicious; it really seemed far too long since Lara had the chance for a good cup of tea. She neglected the milk and sugar, however; it was rare that Lara added anything to her tea.

She took a sip, smiling softly to herself. "Yes," she agree, "it's rather lovely, isn't it?" Still, the fact that there were no real gardens or livestock anywhere troubled Lara - how did those in the city get what they needed?

With Yorda as safe as she could be in this city, Sonic had set off to find the Doctor and Lara. He'd headed straight for the gate, and...they weren't there. Okay. Um.

Wait. They'd said something about tea. That'd be at a cafe, right? Either way, that was where he was headed, provided he could find it.

It didn't take long. He'd actually run right past the building before the fact that he'd seen Lara sitting at a table there registered, and he pulled a sharp U-turn in the street, heading back to the cafe and skidding to a stop right in front of the table where the Doctor and Lara were. "There y'are! I thought we were meetin' at the gate!" He looked expectantly and impatiently from Lara to the Doctor and back. "Well, what're we waitin' for? We're burnin' daylight! Let's go!"

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Hello, Sonic," Lara chuckled, greeting the hedgehog. "And don't worry," she replied, "the church will still be there in a little while." She was amused at Sonic's impatience, though she could certainly understand it - not too long ago, she had remarked to one of her friends that waiting was for the patient. But where were her manners? "Sonic, would you like to join us for tea?" Not that Sonic seemed like the tea type, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Still, the Englishwoman was certainly looking forward to another exploration. She had every intention of getting past that door this time.

[identity profile] itshowiroll.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
"What d'you mean, you just poured it?" Sonic gave the long-suffering sigh of the terminally impatient. "You been sittin' here all this time an' you haven't done a thing?" He understood the concept of chilling out, sure, but not while they had places to go, mysteries to solve, and potentially bad guys to beat up. Time and a place for everything, after all.

"Nah," he turned down Lara's offer. "I'm gonna go for a run. I'll be back." With that, he was off as quick as he came. He wasn't going top speed, sure, but maybe he could use this time to explore the city, maybe go down a few back alleys he hadn't seen before. Hopefully ten or so minutes would be enough time for Lara and the Doctor to finish their tea.

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Lara chuckled. "He seems to be like that," she said, not quite apologetic. "I daresay he'll want to carry us both to the church this time." She was only half-joking, however - she hadn't forgotten the windswept, breathless feeling she had when Sonic had done that to her.

The archaeologist laughed and nodded. "I suppose so," she replied, delicately sipping at her own tea. "Or not let Sonic know that we're going anywhere until we're finished." It wasn't like he wouldn't find them quickly enough.

[identity profile] itshowiroll.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
He'd never admit it to anybody, but Sonic had spent most of his ten minutes near a patch of flowers - the real flowers - growing on the side of one of the buildings. The fake stuff looked great, sure, but nothing could compare to real grass, real trees, and real flowers. He was starting to miss them, and all the fake plants around him didn't make up for it.

And then he remembered he had other, more pressing things to do, and headed back to the cafe. Thinking time was over - he'd rather take action anyways.

"So!" He skidded to a stop next to the table Lara and the Doctor were sitting at in much the same fashion as he had ten minutes ago. "You guys ready t' go?"

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Lara had been sipping her tea slowly, mostly to savor it but also with the intention of teasing Sonic. She was still drinking when the hedgehog showed up, and made a show of playfully finishing her cup before nodding. "Hello, Sonic," she greeted pleasantly. "Did you enjoy yourself?"

She stood, then, stretching idly. "I quite agree, Doctor." To Lara, it was about time to be off, anyway; while she had enjoyed the time in between, she felt excitement build inside of her again and smiled to herself. COmpared to that, tea could wait.
