Setting the Trap [Active]

Character(s): Larxene, Yorda and eventually Hamel.
Content: Yorda is lost. Larxene finds her and begins her manipulation. Hamel tries to stop it.
Setting: In front of the Matteus Museum of Art.
Time: After Yorda separates from Ivan, so evening.
Warnings: Larxene. Need I say more? Also, Yorda curses (but doesn't know what it means ;~;).

She didn't understand. She couldn't understand. So many people were calling Cora by the name of "Larxene" and telling Yorda how terrible she was. But in the midst of all the upsetting and confusing words, Cora had treated her with kindness. She had even offered help, and Yorda very much needed it right now, especially considering she had gotten lost while around Ivan.

Now, if she could only remember the greeting Hamel had taught her... It had a few strange words that she didn't understand, but it must surely be customary here.

Larxene appeared from her portal not far from the museum, but enough out of sight that Yorda wouldn't be able to see it. The portals tended to look intimidating, and if the journals had shown her anything, it was that Yorda was easily manipulated, but only if treated gently.

And Larxene was just interested--and bored--enough to do so.

She strolled casually up to the museum, spotting the slightly-glowing girl (even more interesting) almost instantly.

"Hello," she chirped with a wave of her hand. "Yorda, yes?"

Larxene had to admit she hadn't expected that sort of response. But the tone of it, and the way she had seen Yorda act before, made her think that it was something someone had told her. After all, the girl accepted what Larxene told her easily enough.

"I am," Larxene said. "Who told you to say that?"

"He was," Larxene said, amused but hiding it easily. "He must have been trying to keep people away from you."

Her tone added that wasn't very nice of him, but she didn't say it. Instead, she smiled sweetly and decided that now would be a good time to really start the manipulation. After all, there weren't many glowing girls around, and that must have meant she had some sort of unique talents. Why else would she have been kept hidden away in a castle?

"Shall we begin the tour?"

"Perhaps he's trying to drive people away from you," Larxene suggested, hoping to plant a few seeds of doubt as to Hamel's intentions in Yorda's head.

Hamel probably wanted to keep Larxene away, after all. But that hadn't worked at all, and so Larxene would repay the favor as best she could. Let it never be said she didn't give as well as receive. Her pink sundress hung prettily on her in the calm of Paixao.

"It's no trouble at all," Larxene said. "Now, shall we walk? There's a lot to see."

And the sooner they started walking, the farther away they'd be from anyone who thought to come after Yorda.

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
And so she began to walk, leading the girl away from the museum and into the twisting hallway-like streets of Paixao. A little tour, a bit of conversation, and she could have Yorda eating out of her hand. The girl seemed accustomed to being used.

"Don't worry," she said. "You'll learn."

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Almost out of the way of anyone else who might be looking for her--unless they were coming from this direction, anyway. She turned another corner just to put them at an angle from the museum, and thus making it unlikely someone would wander down this street heading toward Yorda. The crowds of blond-haired people were thin here, so Larxene kept watch for anyone who stuck out--anyone who wasn't a citizen. The citizens were too shallow to bother with.

"Most of the people here will just ignore you," she said, gesturing to one of the aforementioned citizens as they passed him. "It's the visitors who are the interesting ones."

From the alleyways around the museum there suddenly echoed the sweet tones of a violin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0Qt6FozW-E&feature=related)-- perhaps a little unnaturally loud, clear as a bell even above the hustle and bustle of the museum district.

Hamel leaned against the wall of the alley up ahead, idly playing the melody on his violin. His face was hidden in shadow as the two approached. He glanced up briefly-- and recognized the girl he was on his way to pick up from the museum. Looks like the blonde broad got to her first.

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Larxene nodded. "I've been here for some time, but I showed up just like you did. That was before all of these--rude people--arrived."

But before she could really begin weaving her tale, she was distracted by the sound of music. Had someone come for Yorda? She did recall a violinist; she would have cursed had she not been playing nice. And so, despite her annoyance, she tried her best to distract the girl.

"Paixao wasn't as bad as it is now," she said. "Not before some of the visitors came and started making things the way it is."

SORRY GUYS 8D

[identity profile] greatherohamel.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Heh." A single syllable escaped Hamel's throat, and he glanced up from under the wide brim of his old hat. He continued playing away at the song, accentuating every note and improvising a little magic into it. Bizet's fine Carmen was a wonderful opera, and the music from it could inspire passion and curiosity if played properly. This tune was guaranteed to pique the pale girl's interest if she listened long enough.

He took a few steps out of the alley so he'd be more visible and the pale girl could approach.

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm used to it," Larxene replied simply; and it was true--she rather enjoyed it, to be entirely truthful. But Yorda didn't need the entire truth.

Larxene, lacking any true emotions, was immune to the spell's effects, but she was not blind to the music's effects, or deaf to the notes. Looking up at the man--she could just make him out, standing beside Yorda as she was--she placed a hand on the girl's shoulder, hoping to slow her.

"Be careful," she advised, "you don't know who might be playing. It could be someone who isn't particularly nice."

Because drawing the girl out of the web Larxene was weaving around her wouldn't be polite at all.

[identity profile] greatherohamel.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Ha..." Hamel said suddenly, pausing his music for only a second to look up from under his hat. "Music is a mirror to the soul. How could a heart that plays such beautiful melodies be cruel?" There was a question for the ages.

He continued to play his melody, stepping out of the alley and looking up at Yorda with a gentle smile on his face. "Oi, we talked over the journals, right? I'm here to pick you up."

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Anyone can play a tune," Larxene said, making it clear she wasn't simply going to walk away from Yorda. She still wanted to see what the peculiar girl could do.

"And she already has an escort."

She followed Yorda, still trying to draw the girl away from the man. This was not as planned, but she would try to work around it.

[identity profile] greatherohamel.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Ha! You wouldn't pull a young lady away from her date, would you?" Hamel grinned at the blonde woman and pulled his bow away from the strings momentarily.

Then he turned to Yorda and swept a majestic bow. "Wielder of the ultra-large violin, the great hero Hamel at your service. Legendary slayer of mazoku and saver of worlds."

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't say that," Larxene replied smoothly, and if she was annoyed at the girl's misuse of words she didn't show it. "More of friendly company than anything."

Or something enough like it on the surface to fool the gullible child. Larxene was glad Yorda was so sheltered; it made her task easier. Of course, it also made it easier for the violinist to distract her.

"They say three's a crowd," Larxene cooed. "And I wouldn't want to abandon Yorda in the middle of a tour."

[identity profile] greatherohamel.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oi. Tour's cancelled," Hamel said irritably, spinning his bow in his hand and whipping it off to the side as though posing for a catalog picture.

"Sorry, but I've got a room rented out for her just around the corner and the guy said he wasn't gonna hold it if I didn't pay in advance, so I've got like... five minutes to get back there," he explained, carefully watching the blonde. "Let's go, Yorda."

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Focusing on her response, rather than her frustration, dulled the echo of emotion to the point where it was not strong enough to bother her at all. She smiled sweetly at the girl and then looked up at the man while adding a touch of cruelty to her expression that she doubted Yorda would notice.

"I see no reason why I can't accompany her to the hotel, unless you're planning something... Unscrupulous."

Another thing Yorda probably wouldn't grasp. But maybe the tone would make it clear to the girl. That was only a maybe, though. Yorda was so sheltered.

[identity profile] greatherohamel.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yorda didn't notice but Hamel certainly did. He narrowed his eyes at the blonde and lowered his violin down to his side.

"Unscrupulous? HA! What are you talking about?" he chuckled. "You think I'm one of those pervy shounen manga characters? The youth in the bathhouse peeping over the wall? HA! I'm the great hero Hamel! Besides," he added as an aside, "She's way too scrawny. Nothing but limbs, nothing appealing at all."

His expression turned serious again and he eyed the blonde woman with a smirk. "Three's a crowd, anyway."

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
She, for the most part, ignored what Hamel said. It just didn't seem worth the energy to reply, and she instead focused on Yorda. "If Yorda has no objections, I see no reason I should leave."

Because Yorda was the goal, and Hamel was an obstacle. Larxene would remove the obstacle, but given the circumstances, simply turning it aside would be fine for the moment.

I FAIL AGAIN

[identity profile] greatherohamel.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hamel glanced at the blonde and gave her a long, discerning once over. He scanned up and down her, scratched his chin, and finally made a pouting face.

"All right, come along if you want," he finally said dismissively, "At least you've got a pair on you."

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2008-12-28 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
She didn't so much as blink, and certainly didn't address Hamel directly. "It seems your friend, Yorda, is rather rude. Are you sure you'd like to spend time with him?"

She was, of course, just looking out for Yorda's best interests.

[identity profile] greatherohamel.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's not my fault you want to come along with me, now, is it?" Hamel reflected back at the blonde instantly. "C'mon, shorty," he said to Yorda, taking her by the hand and pulling her along behind him in a random direction. "We're going to find a place with donabe. I'm starving."

He seemed to be ignoring the blonde, but turned to eye her over his shoulder and see if she was following.

[identity profile] mercurialectric.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"For now," Larxene said, speaking only to Yorda and following along as soon as she moved without so much as paying attention to what Hamel was doing--he might as well have not even been there, "I suppose I'll trust your judgment."

Though trusting Yorda's judgment in anything more than lip service was of course a bad idea. The girl believed the lies Larxene was telling her, after all.
