Wandering Thoughts [complete]

Character(s):  Auron, Gabranth
Content:  After his fight with the Sinspawn and post on the MB Hayley finally gets off her lazy ass and makes a post Auron sets off again.
Setting:  Between H-7 and G-7
Time:  Early Evening
Warnings: None

A fine mess this had become.  Sin was loose in the city and lives were being lost.  He had imparted his knowledge of the beast to the people here, but something told Auron that that just wouldn't be enough.  A young man had suggested that he should lead a group to combat it, but Auron doubted that he'd be the best choice.  Braska, perhaps, but not him.  He had had his fair share of leadership, shared as the role may have been on Yuna's pilgrimage.  Doubtless the High Summoner was taking on that role already, wherever he was.

And that was why the former guardian was worried.  Braska could take care of himself, yes, but going off after Sin on a whim was just the foolish task the man would take up.  He had good intentions, Auron was sure, but that didn't make it any less dangerous.  He still hadn't made up his mind over whether or not to go find him.

While the fact that there were monsters swarming the city had hardly escaped Gabranth's notice, they weren't exactly at the forefront of his mind. Rather, he was more concerned with the fact that between the meddlesome sky pirates and that madman of a doctor Vayne (damned if he would let him have the same title as his father, even if only in his thoughts) was so enamored of things were hardly looking up in this place.

A Judge Magister without a purpose. Or at least not a purpose that was readily accessible from this place and he would be loathe to see his young lord trapped as he was even should it create a more lasting reason for his presence.

For now though, he'd simply wander alone with his thoughts.

It was less the fact that Auron appeared to be something of a fighter and more the fact that he vaguely recognized the bottle, or its intent anyway. The man must have been injured doing something.

Of course, he cared not whether the man lived or died. He could hardly afford to be so kind. The man he was still half-pretending to be, on the other hand, would care. And so despite his distinct lack of interest he moved closer.

"Are you injured?"

'I'll be fine,' was it? He'd heard and uttered many a thing similar to that same phrase both in his earlier years and now. But he'd let it slide for now.

"I can fend for myself," he answered. True, he might have left his twin swords behind with his armor, but he still had a serviceable sword. He could manage with monsters.

Even the ones that came in human form.

A scowl briefly crossed Gabranth's face at Auron's words. He was plenty able to take care of himself, and knew better than to attempt reckless things in battle.

But he was still being half-not-him, and a scowl at that would've looked horribly out of place on Basch's face. He'd have to make an effort to better hide his emotions.

"As should you," he answered, a faint note of terseness still in his voice.

Maybe everyone needed the reminder at some point, but that hardly menat that Gabranth had to like the reminder. He'd never really taken well to that sort of thing.

"I've not seen him," he answered. Or at least, hadn't been looking for him. For all he knew he could have passed by the man while lost in thought. Which was hardly the thing one said to someone who was looking for someone.

More people wanting things from him and the man he wasn't. Lovely. But pretenses were pretenses and he might as well play those falsehoods out to the end.

"I will."

He just wouldn't make much effort of actually looking.
