What a nice surprise, bring your alibis [Active]

Character(s): Demyx and Cloud
Content: "Eddie" calls Cloud out to talk about Zack. Only it's not about Zack, and they're not there to talk.
Setting: the Wild Ginger
Time: about 11 at night
Warnings: none

Demyx fidgeted a little in his chair, running through the plan one more time in his head. Step one was already done; he'd arrived at the Wild Ginger a few minutes before the agreed-upon time and picked a readily visible table to sit at. Step two hinged on the kid showing up, and step three... well, he was still a little sketchy on step three but he had a basic idea what he was gonna do next and that was pretty good considering how little time he'd given himself to prepare.

After much deliberation, he'd decided to go with his street clothes again instead of the uniform. Couldn't be sure whether Cloud would bolt if he saw the black coat, after all. (Most everybody else did lately.)

Taking the offered seat with a slow look around his surroundings before focusing on the other blond, Cloud tightened his grip on his computer and slipped it into a pocket, making sure it was secure.

His brows furrowed when Eddie began to mumble to himself and cleared his voice to speak, to ask and-

... huh?

"You said something happened to Zack." He said cautiously, both a reminder and a warning that he was starting to think that Demyx either had a memory of a wasp or that this was a practical joke gone wrong. "That's why you called me out here."

Oh, right! So that had been it after all. "Yeah," he said, recovering quickly as the story he'd originally made up started coming back to him. "Yeah, something happened to him." Belatedly, he remembered that that counted as a bad thing, and he quickly changed his expression from excitement to his best approximation of serious. "It's just... he hasn't been answering my calls, y'know? And the last thing I heard from him, well... it was weird."

He paused, trying to figure how best to phrase it. "It was like... his voice just cut off right in the middle. So I dunno what went down, but I've got a bad feeling..."

The sentence was left hanging in midair. Now to see whether Cloud would buy into it.

He had a bad feeling too. Cloud frowned. There was something weird going on, and it wasn't just about Zack. The older blond was acting suspicious, making Cloud more unsettled.

He licked his lips, conflicted. If Zack was really hurt or gone, and Cloud hadn't done anything to help because he was only being selfish...

No. He wouldn't know what he'd do, if he didn't go and help his friend. "What did he say? Do you know where he was before the connection broke?"
