She was prone to wandering. [Active/Closed]

Character(s): Rose, Luxord, the Doctor
Content: Rose wanders off (surprise, surprise) and runs across Luxord. The Doctor finds them, and isn't too happy about her guest.
Setting: L7 street area, heading towards Ersesat.
Time: Late afternoon
Warning(s): "The Oncoming Storm" would be enough of a warning, I think.

Rose Tyler, simply put, was prone to wandering off. It didn't matter that her original separation from the Doctor was... iffy. It was an unbreakable habit, and as much as she enjoyed being within the TARDIS again, she found herself leaving it (obviously when the Doctor didn't realize) and into the streets of Paixao.

She knew to stay away from whatever creatures had crawled their way into the streets; she was an expert in running, if it came to it, but the TARDIS seemed to be parked far enough away from that chaos. She hoped that the trouble wouldn't follow them, however unlikely that was.

A bit worriedly she gave a glance back towards the direction she had come, pausing walking for a moment as she stared. It had been obvious to her that he had been separated a lot longer than... she had been. Weird, timey-whimey stuff, he'd probably say this city had. But... although he was use to her wandering off... she hoped he wouldn't get... too...

Ah, never mine. He'd be fine.

She continued walking. The cafe was somewhere around here.

Luxord was once again bored. It seemed to be a running theme for this city. He did meet the most interesting of people when he was out wandering, however, so it wasn't necessarily all bad.

Like the young woman before him, for example. She was blonde, true, but her clothing was different than the city's normal attire and she was obviously looking for something. Perfect.

Falling in step beside her, he put on his gentlemanly act and spoke up. "Searching for something? Perhaps I can be of assistance."

"Calm down," Luxord laughed lightly at her obviously startled reaction. "I won't bite, I promise." Yet.

The cafe was certainly easy enough to find, as well as being an excellent starting point for conversation. "Yes, it's right up this way," he answered her question, gesturing to a building on the left side of the street. They had been nearly on top of it when he'd met with her. "I've not had their tea before, but very reliable sources have told me it's excellent. Perhaps today is a good day to try it."

"You're very welcome," Luxord replied as he followed her into the cafe, "and I'd love to." This certainly saved him the awkwardness of inviting himself to her table. "Do you have a preference, or shall we simply order their best and be surprised?"

It had taken him until that point to realize he had yet to introduce himself to her. "Forgive my rudeness - you can call me Tobias," he offered with a sincere smile - sincere as he could make it, at least.

Now, it hadn't taken long for the Doctor to realize Rose had indeed wandered off. It was kind of apparent she'd been thinking it, although he hadn't realized she'd already done it, till she hadn't replied to his last message.

They never stayed put. Never ever. You tell them to stay there. Don't get into trouble! What do they do? Leave, and get into trouble. It almost never ceased to fail. So, the real question was, why didn't he go to greater lengths to stop them from doing it? Well, then again, if he was in their position would he stay put?

Yeah, no. Probably not.

The Doctor couldn't really hold it against them. Still, he wished Rose had listened to him in this case. There were a lot of dangerous things out there, and with people known to just vanish and the like, he really wished she'd not do this. Especially considering he only just found her again.

Especially considering that.

So, where would she have gone? Well, she'd talked about tea, so...

The Doctor was soon stepping into the cafe. It hadn't taken rocket science to figure out that this had probably been where she'd gone. Almost instantly he spotted her, "Ros--" His face drained, however, when he saw who she was sitting with.

He was known as "The Oncoming Storm" and as he approached the table it certainly took new meaning.

"YOU!"

"A pleasure to meet you, Rose." The words were barely out of Luxord's mouth before he was confronted by...who was this man again?

Oh, right. It wasn't like Luxord to forget the one man who'd ever stood up to his powers over time. For now he would feign innocence, at least until he learned the man's name.

"Good afternoon," he greeted the man mildly before turning to Rose. "Friend of yours?"

[identity profile] sir-doctor.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooohhh, don't act like you don't remember me. You remember at the train station? Stopping time? Taking Rosette? I was there, I know you saw me. You couldn't not have, oh, not to mention we had a little chat on the journals. I'd still very much like to know how you did that and how about what you did to Rosette, while you're at it," the Doctor said, almost snarling.

He had a lot, a LOT, of nerve playing the 'I don't know you' card. Finding him here, with Rose had shaken him, but anger had quickly creeped in. There was no way he was letting her out of his sight again. No way, what-so-ever.

The Doctor began digging in his pocket meanwhile, searching for something while he awaited Luxord's response.

Oh yes, he had indeed talked to the man - the Doctor, he'd called himself, and itt seemed he still had no idea how to play a game, at least not well. A travesty. "For shame, Doctor," Luxord chided him, not caring that this would likely make the man's towering bad mood even worse. "Laying all your cards on the table before the game's even begun is terrible form."

He raised an eyebrow at the Doctor's demands. "Although," he continued his previous statement as though nothing had happened, "it could possibly stem from my own refusal to tell you the rules."

Heaping insult upon insult, he turned his attention from the Doctor back to Rose, a harder edge beneath the charm he'd shown her. This was not a side he'd intended to reveal (not to her, not so soon), but if this was how events were going, so be it. "I apologize for the interruption."

"I've never been one for rules, especially when it comes to games," the Doctor answered, not looking particularly effected by Luxord's attempts to insult him. They fell rather flat, if you asked him. "I've played these kinds of games more times than you can possibly imagine. I'd really rather not start another one."

"While we're at it, how about you also explain another game piece from this game of yours," the Doctor added, as he produced a vial, something dark swirling inside.

He'd stepped around the table at this point, lingering beside Rose in a protective manner. There was no way he'd let them take Rose. No way in hell. "Look familiar? This came out of Rosette. I've scanned it and it's just... what you see. Darkness. A manifestation of darkness," he explained, more for Rose's benefit perhaps, since it seemed quite obvious that Luxord probably already knew that.

Luxord had no reply to the Doctor's dismissal of his game. It was disappointing, certainly, but there was no point in forcing the man to play now. He could simply do it later, with a little more information and a lot more leverage.

Of course, that didn't mean he was giving any information to the Doctor. Ignoring Rose's "advice," he remained in his seat, watching as the doctor produced the vial and explained it. "So it is," he replied simply. If there was one thing Luxord had, it was an excellent poker face.

[identity profile] sir-doctor.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
"So! The real question is, what was this doing in Rosette?" he questioned, waving around once more, before popping the vial back into his pocket for safe keeping. "What were you trying to accomplish?"

The Doctor couldn't figure out just what purpose it could possibly have. He didn't expect Luxord to actually answer of course. He somehow didn't seem quite the kind to sit there and blab out all his plans. Of course, Luxord didn't have the upper hand here either, which was usually one of the requirements of that.

((Orz sorry for the crappy post. best I could do. It's a post at least?!))

It seemed the Doctor wasn't one for playing games. That was simply too bad, as Luxord was still very much in the mood. "Excellent questions indeed, Doctor," he replied coolly. "Perhaps you could tell me, as you seem to have all the answers." It was a cheap barb, but sometimes it didn't take much.

And really, where was that tea?

[identity profile] sir-doctor.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, if I had all the answers, I wouldn't be asking, I assure you," the Doctor replied equally as coolly, lowering his voice. "But you've caught me on a rather bad day, I'm afraid, as I don't have them."

"Yet," he added, progressively sounding more dark and almost dangerous. "And if I find out you're as responsible as I think you are..."

He didn't continue his words, the Time Lord just seemed to stand taller, a piercing look directed at the Nobody. Luxord didn't phase him a bit. He'd stared down far greater villains in his long lifetime. "Well, you can't say I didn't warn you."

"Right, come on, Rose," he suddenly said, spinning around on heel. In a flash he'd become cheerful. "Let's leave the gentleman to his tea."

Admissions to lacking knowledge and threats. It seemed the Doctor had no finesse whatsoever. "I wish you the best of luck, Doctor," Luxord replied lightly, the darker message beneath his words clear: you'll need it.

If the Doctor wanted to intimidate Luxord, he'd much more than a towering figure and a dark glare. It was, after all, terribly difficult to strike fear into the heart of a man who lacked said heart.

"Enjoy your afternoon, Rose," Luxord addressed the girl, his tone considerably lighter than it had been during his conversation with the Doctor. "Perhaps our next meeting will be under more favorable circumstances." Whether that was threat, guarantee, or innocent statement was up for interpretation; however, Luxord knew exactly which he intended it to be.
