To Meet With the Mayor [Active]

Character(s): Pein, Konan, the Mayor
Content: Pein decides to act on information he's received and makes a visit to the Mayor's office.
Setting: City Hall [I-6]
Time: Afternoon
Warnings: It's Pein, so stuff.

Pein stood at the entrance to City Hall, looking up the staircase at the door. The information that Sylar had given him had certainly piqued his curiosity, and he was going to act on it... through less public means, of course. That was why he was here--to meet with the Mayor and see for himself if he could find out about the organization that Sylar had mentioned.

Making his way here, over the rooftops of course, had given him plenty of opportunity to consider what he wanted to say, how he wanted to address this. It would be better to act as the newcomer he was at present, he had decided, than to garner attention as the shinobi and killer he also was. And with any luck, the kunais and shuriken could stay tucked away, unnecessary as he sought the answers to his questions.

Pein began to ascend the stone staircase. This was going to prove an interesting meeting.

((SORRY, LJ notification failure FTL.))

Konan's gaze was locked on the blue-haired man, and silent she remained. She was watching for any sort of flicker of recognition, a hint of what he was and was not saying--and while she did that, she folded. It passed the time, and having her paper around was always useful.

The paper tiger slowly took shape beneath skilled fingers.

One of the advantages of no longer having proper emotions was that said same emotions couldn't betray ones feelings, by virtue of not being there. As a result, Konan would be rather hard-pressed to pick any flicker of recognition in those calm yellow eyes. Of course, if it might still be possible on occasion, but hardly easy.

"I doubt he'll be meeting any more people from hereon out, dead as he is." An idle comment, to judge from the way he sounded almost bored, but one designed to test the waters all the same. "Will you then wait for his successor to take the field or seek out some other source for your answers?"

One like the one standing in front of them, for example.

The tiger emerged tail first, blooming like the paper flower in her hair. And yet she did not look down at it; her hands moved automatically along the folds, feeling the tiger as easily as her eyes could see.

"You were just in his office, then?" Konan asked; they had just been there, and he certainly hadn't been there. Perhaps she could catch him in a lie.

There was a smile at Konan's question - a smile that spoke nothing of kindness. They'd have to do better than that to catch him out in a lie, although he had to applaud them for at least trying such at thing. "I was not. But I needn't see things to know of their occurrence," he answered. Let them make of that what they would, but it was true all the same, even if he rarely used that ability.

"As for whether I not I know the answers to your questions it depends on what they are."

The smile was noted and filed away in her mind. This man was interesting enough to keep Konan's attention, which was never entirely a good thing. The tiger, complete, lay in her hands. An ability such as that was not one she was entirely unfamiliar with; she had her origami spies, after all, and Pein had his rain.

She was silent once more, waiting for the blue-haired man's reponse to Pein's question.

"More than you would expect a newly-met stranger to be able to tell. Certainly more than the mayor would now be capable of telling you." After all, in most cases dead men weren't much in the habit of telling anyone anything. And even if the mayor weren't dead, he was pretty sure he'd still have an advantage over the mayor. Being part of the Organization more-or-less assured that.

"Although I have to wonder why you might be looking for information about them in person. Surely there is enough on the journals for you to find most of the answers yourself and most would warn you away from a direct meeting with our cloaked friends."

Surely this man knew something; his attitude all but screamed it. She never had been fond of those who withheld information; she would have preferred to take their knowledge from them. But she couldn't tell what they were capable of, and so could only wait for orders, or for reason to attack or be more pleasant than she was being now.

She knew she wasn't acting anything close to warm. She didn't care.

Well, given that foul play technically was at hand, it was hardly surprising that it would cross Pein's mind. As for the motivation, that was something that would have to stay unknown - he had no intention of letting on that the mayor had died simply because he hadn't been doing his job properly.

"Sadly it would seem that the local authority will be unavailable for some time. Perhaps a 'no-one' will serve?"

There. Now to see how they would react to that subtle hint...

[identity profile] angelicorigami.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Konan cocked an eyebrow. "You're a nobody, then?"

The emphasis was only slight. But it was enough.

[identity profile] onabluemoon.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Slight, perhaps, but more than enough for Saïx to pick up on the emphasis. "I am."

It was perhaps a risky move, admitting to being a Nobody - and thus most likely affiliated with the Organization - but should things go south he could also simply portal out. And they had wanted information about the Organization and who better to ask than someone who was in that very group?

[identity profile] angelicorigami.livejournal.com 2008-04-12 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Konan smiled, just a bit, and fell silent. Then they were dealing with the very organization they had wanted information on in the first place. How convenient this was. It was just a matter of dealing with this man, then, and seeing how this mysterious organization could be used.

[identity profile] onabluemoon.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"You wanted to know what I could tell you of our Organization, was it?" He asked, a smirk settling in on his face - it was so much easier when he didn't have to hide his alliances. He'd never liked before, and so their was no real reason to pretend to do so now. "I could tell you many things, although I might wonder as to your reasons for asking. Information can be a powerful thing in the wrong hands."

That and he'd rather not have Xemnas find out that he'd unwittingly let out information to those who shouldn't have it.

[identity profile] angelicorigami.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The paper tiger in her hands sprang to life, running up her arm and settling on her shoulder. And, if Saix was paying attention--and Konan trusted he would be--he would see just the slightest fluttering of her shoulder as it partially dispersed into paper. Not enough that a casual observer would notice, but still, it was meant to simply imply that they held power.

If they could work with the Organization, after all, so much the better for them.

[identity profile] onabluemoon.livejournal.com 2008-04-16 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"The Resistance? They know less than they think." Or at least, so he thought, given what little he knew of them. A shame no one had managed to get any real information on the Resistance's capabilities - he'd have to have words with someone about that later. He of all people knew that a war wasn't necessary won with strength alone, although it certainly helped.

But perhaps these two could be useful to their cause; the woman at least seemed to have some measure of power over paper, which was certainly interesting. Besides, hadn't Xemnas asked them to look for potential allies.

Yes, this was most certainly a situation he could turn to his advantage.

"You speak of potential alliances, then."

[identity profile] angelicorigami.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Konan was satisfied with the progression of events, and so kept quiet. Pein could certainly handle himself, although there were times when he could be too easily frustrated. But not now, when things were working out as they were.

She watched and waited.

[identity profile] onabluemoon.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, to be perfectly honest, he didn't actually know how much the Resistance knew or for that matter how many were in their ranks. Of course, he had no real intention of admitting to that. After all, if they already suspected as much what was the point? To deny or confirm the fact would only reveal that they were running on little-to-no information.

"Let's say that we did forge an alliance. What would you find in the bargain?"

No need to ask what the Organization would gain after all - he could already see what such an alliance would bring to their side.
