Oh Hell, What Have I Fallen Into Now? [Complete]

Character(s): Sara and Open
Content: Sara finds herself in Paixao...and is really confused.
Setting: Near Niflheim gate
Time: The afternoon of her first day (Jan. 8)
Warnings: Sara will get frustrated, probably some well placed four letter words...

Standing in the line, she wondered exactly what was inside the domed city that she stoon in front of. She had woken up a few moments before, lying on her back and staring up at the sky. It had thrown her off a bit, considering that a moment before, she had been leaning against the lockers in the lab, ready to turn in her gun and vest...she was leaving.

Hopefully this place is more interesting then San Francisco. she thought, writing her name on a list when she made it to the front. The guard handed her some sort of mini computer, and she thanked him, but he ignored her. She wandered in...but stopped a few feet in.

"Woah...It's Atlantis on land..." She said, taking in the scene of the city.

They had been nudging around, strangely weaving through the newcomers, noses wrinkling at some, nuzzling up against others. There was a bundle of blondes crowding near the Niflheim gate, pointing at the bright white forms, looking disturbed and worried, chatting amongst themselves. The creatures, of course, paid no mind, and just continued to weave through the line, flaring up briefly once and awhile. The influx of them was disturbing, like they were searching for something in particular, hunting, maybe.

Two simply disappeared after a bit, a third wandered off towards the bright grass of the Elysian Fields, blending in almost perfectly if not for its golden tips, and two more weaved back into the city. A feline-like pair; the group of blondes parted ways for them nervously. They looked fearful, almost afraid of being touched by the creatures that flicked their tails and looks unbothered. They traveled further in, drifting almost like ghosts, if there were such things. And then the pair stopped and sat in the middle of the street, gazing around with sharp, haunting eyes.

All the locals had relocated themselves now, some whispering out things like “What are they doing?” and “Why are the lumens here all of a sudden?” and just overall thinking that it was best that they scatter, like the two creatures were unlucky black cats. Maybe they were.

They were scouting for darkness. Too much evil passed into the domed city lately. Too much. Everywhere. Sickening. Corrupting their lands, and they hadn’t reacted much against it, yet. So wrong. So much darkness. They had to keep watch. Much more alert. Not let anything slip through. No, not anything…

The influx of darkness was burning them. They looked as though anything could easily set them off.

“I would suggest caution, miss. Far be it from me to interfere, but I would suggest it; I did hear of an attack on an unfortunate soul some time ago; I do apologize for being unable to offer any details, having heard of it only by word of mouth.”

This came from a man in a mask, several feet beside and behind Sara. He was neatly dressed in black, save for his mask---it was almost entirely white, and faintly vulpine, decorated by black eyebrows, mustache, and goatee, with faint touches of pink across the cheeks.

Both mask and manner suggested the man was amused, although he sounded sincere enough.

The two lumens perked and twitched, looking unable to stay still. They sniffed at the air, rounded their heads constantly, searching out every whiff of aura, every trickle of emotion, sweat of evil, anything about that they found disturbing.

A pair of eyes trailed to the masked man and one of the creatures flared up for just a moment, hissing and spitting, but then simply blinked and settled, looking mildly perturbed. It had been sure... but then not? How peculiar. Its senses must be out-of-tuned, or maybe the man was just strange. But then, much of the newcomers were strange. It was upsetting. It hissed again, looked at the women, and then turned tail with an aura of disdain and moved further into the city, fading more and more from existence as it walked.

The remaining lumen looked at Sara, not caring much about the arrival of the indeed strange man. It wandered over and nudged its head at her leg; solid and warm and still cat-like, but so very not a cat. And like the other, it had the ability to vanish like a ghost, its aura tinging the air as it faded in the breeze, eyes staring widely at the women.

((And lumens exit XD *meant to keep 'em around longer.. but... well. x.x;;;

"I've an idea, but I'm afraid it's almost as vague as yours might be." The dramatist tilted his head and shrugged slightly, then straighted, serious---or something like it. "People call them lumens, they seem to be honest enough in appearance---as creatures of light, if not love---and they are, as I've heard, remarkably fickle creatures. I hadn't seen anything similar, in my own territory---I found myself here, however, and that changed."

[identity profile] vendettaisforv.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Creatures of light, yes, or something similar enough; certainly seems to be in a more literal sense than one would expect." The man who never stopped smiling looked levelly back---or seemed to, as his own eyes saw but weren't seen---and laughed; it was little more than a chuckle, but spoke of content good cheer. "I do not have a name; you may call me V. Miss, I've been here for months, but it seems I've missed most of the excitement; the wrong place at the wrong time, a day late and a dollar short. Most unfortunate, although I suppose some conversation---civil and original---is a step towards ending that. You'll find the majority present---those who are not misplaced persons, like ourselves---to be rather flat. Tell me, please; might you be from Earth?"

[identity profile] vendettaisforv.livejournal.com 2008-01-25 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
V nodded, serious for a moment. "There have been problems, yes; people attacked by lumens like those present earlier, a mysterious organization in black robes kidnapping people, mysterious monsters, disappearances... All manner of things: o discordia."

He then clapped his hands together, seeming pleased. "Excellent! London, myself. There are people from every where and when imaginable, and some of which we'd never've heard; what year might you be from? I would wager well before 2020."

[identity profile] vendettaisforv.livejournal.com 2008-02-03 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"So it would seem, if one browses the message boards for even a brief while." Another nod and a curious head-tilt at the exclaimation; the amused air asserted itself again. "2028, in my own case. I wonder if we would be from the same version of Earth... did you happen to have Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister of England, at any time?"

[identity profile] vendettaisforv.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"It seems that it may be so...she held office 1979 to 1990, I believe. The pressing question, then, is if the similarities of our history lessons continue to sync, as they should, if my suspicions are correct." At that, V steepled his fingers---one would notice the black leather gloves matched his boots nicely enough; no skin seemed to be exposed anywhere about his person---and leaned forward just slightly, ever an attentive listener. "I do believe there would be no murmur of Norsefire yet... What of the recent political history of the United States?"

[identity profile] vendettaisforv.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I suspect---yes, yes, it is too early, then, and not early enough." A sigh, and a shake of the head; V then straightened, and, of course, never stopped smiling. "I'm afraid the Bush administration took action in 2003, invading Iraq and opening America's war?" He had seen the eventual impacts, on England especially, and could only imagine the current condition of the former United States. He might've seen for himself, had he not been... occupied, with his own agenda and its activities.

[identity profile] vendettaisforv.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"That was what it was called, wasn't it?" V was still and silent for only a second, before starting to speak. "The war waged raged on, I'm sorry to say---it spread. The former United States have turned on themselves, and biological weapons were brought into use; England and Ireland suffered heavy losses, and the last information I could access indicated there was little left in Africa. The U.K., speaking loosely, has fallen under reign of Norsefire, a fascist party, which has recently fallen itself---very recently; I've no idea what will be established to follow it---after far too long a time sketching its similarities to Nazi Germany. Do you care for theatre?"

[identity profile] vendettaisforv.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a possible future; still, the possibilities are endless, and one ought not damn expectations. Any number of things may differ between our nows and thens. Change in chains is wrought with little links: anyone can make a difference, and someones stand uncounted." A handkerchief was produced from some unseen pocket, and offered. "Perhaps we could stop somewhere, and sit? Some cafe should be nearby; you could, perhaps, stand a spot of tea?"

[identity profile] vendettaisforv.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
"There's a pleasant cafe near here; it's not enough of a walk to be bothersome, though it is long enough for air. I offer my apologies; I did not mean to upset you, but I believe it best to be honest, when I may." Of course, than belief had lent itself to entering his person into any amount of trouble... but it had helped his integrity hold fast, and that was worth any peace life with a lie might've purchased. Worth any peace, and much more.
