"Naaaa...that took waaaaay too long..."

Perhaps this wasn't the best day to try this. He could always come back tomorrow, when his feet didn't hurt so much. As he slumped forward sluggishly, his feet already sore from nearly half a day of walking, Luffy sighed and wished that he had gotten better directions from his abode du jour to the gate nearest to the infamous white fields. Instead of a guide, he had instead asked around for simple information about this strange stretch of land beyond the Niflheim Gate. The glow of the knoll at night, the cascading fall of ethereal light, and the collection of hostile creatures outside the safety of Paixao's walls that he had been told excited him to no end. Reckless as ever, the thought of such a curious adventure only made him want to see it even more.

Sadly, taking one wrong turn only led to another, until he had nearly circled the entire city to reach his destination. It had taken hours before he finally came upon the gates, and with them, the guards standing vigilantly around them. Sore soles or not, Luffy was heading outside.

Undeterred by the guards, Luffy walked forward, his motions suggesting his intention to leave. One of the guards, the larger of the two standing directly on duty, quickly moved to intercept the smaller young man in the straw hat. "Hold up, hold up there, guy. You don't want to go that way," he insisted.

"Mmm-hmm. Yeah, I do," Luffy insisted right back. He tried to take another step forward, and the guard reached out a hand and softly placed his palm against Luffy's chest.

"No, you don't," the guard echoed, looking more stern.

"I do," Luffy said again with a sharp nod. He removed his hat and let it hang down behind his shoulders against the chord looped around his neck. "That's the way outside, isn't it?"

"Yes, it is. But-" he began, but Luffy cut him off before another word could be said. "Then I do want to go this way, dummy."

Instead of gently holding out a hand this time, the guard pushed with his palm, urging Luffy backwards a step. The young pirate's demeanor soured very quickly.
