Enter Fox McCloud [Complete]

Character(s): Fox McCloud and Youko Kurama, drop-ins welcome
Content: Lylat's most famous mercenary arrives in Paixao.
Setting: Joutenheim Gate
Time: morning
Warnings: none, really; maybe some language

Fox woke abruptly, as he had no memory of going to sleep. Furthermore, as he surveyed the area, he had no memory of a place like this. He was sure he hadn't been drinking--the last thing he could remember was pacing the corridors of Great Fox, feeling restless. And now he was... Wherever here was. Standing, ears twitching atop his head at any sounds that might be worth hearing, he checked his wristcom. Unknown location.

That meant he wasn't in Lylat any more. But that was impossible; he didn't even have a starship with him. But fine, if this wasn't a dream--and he was pretty sure it wasn't--he was here now, and he would have to figure out what to do. There was a building that he had been resting against, and nearby, a gate that resembled two large, almost apelike creatures, clubs crossed at the top. He looked inside. A city.

Domed cities weren't unheard of in Lylat, but the air outside of this dome wasn't toxic, and even if it were to the residents, the gates were open. This warranted more exploring--it was certainly the most interesting thing in the area. He stepped into the line, and soon found himself facing another creature he'd never seen--another primate, but with a decided lack of fur--blonde hair, blue eyes, and young-looking, but who knew how long they lived?

"Welcome to Paixao!" the guard said, smiling broadly. "Name please?"

A place that demanded the names of those who entered was one he was suspicious of. "James." The dead didn't care if you used their names.

The guard handed him a brochure and a thin, dark blue machine of some sort, then turned her attention to the next one in line. Thus was Fox intruduced to the city, and thus was he immediately suspicious of the city in a dome. He turned his attention to the device he had received. It didn't take him long to figure out how to work the journal--it was an interesting piece of technology, but Lylat had better. Still, it could prove useful; he would keep it. Maybe someone else from Lylat was here--anything would be better than the parade of blonde-haired, blue-eyed primates that seemed to populate the city.

It was then he noticed the grass. What served as grass, at least--it was definitely not alive. He crouched to examine it. Cloth? Then the tree... Fake, too. What kind of place got rid of real plants to replace them with sparkly cloth? He plucked a leaf from the tree--it glittered in places as if it were woven with gold.

He definitely wasn't in Lylat any more.

Youko wasn't sure where he was anymore. He had wandered through the lines, head held high, realizing that these humans - for that was certainly what they were - were quite short. At least compared to him. Though most humans were short compared to him. He chuckled to himself. This was a new place to explore, and he had been given a new body. At least he wasn't dead again, because that would have been most inconvenient.

He waited patiently in line, as he would actually have to get inside to start most of his thievery. "Name?" He was asked. Youko grinned. "Shuichi Minamino." The human would most likely never learn that he had used his name for false reasons, and if he did, what was he going to do? He was him, in a way. But also decidedly different. The guard handed him a brochure and a small machine, which Youko tucked into his robe pocket.

He continued his wanderings and came across a creature who also looked foxlike... except that he was completely covered in fur. He chuckled, and walked towards him, though not close enough to make him uncomfortable.

So it was sentient. Youko had at first thought it would be some sort of stupid animal, as anything that did not look demonlike was, to him, automatically categorized as a 'dumb beast'. But it seemed that he was at least able to converse with him, and so perhaps it was not so dim.

"You can call me Shuichi." Of course he wouldn't give out his real name automatically. He wasn't that stupid. "What are you?" He asked, voice perfectly calm, ears twitching. "You're not a demon." A statement of fact.

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. I am." Again, a statement of fact, nothing more. "I find it hard to believe that you're a fox, and talking, without being a kitsune - that is, a fox demon. Most foxes that I know of... they do not speak." Amusement glittered in his eyes a bit. "However... you may be from somewhere very different than I am. As I was pulled here from a different place, that is something that could be entirely possible."

Youko was growing more and more interested in this place the longer he was here. Something was translating for him. He didn't really care what - human technology didn't really interest him at all. Or whatever species had developed this technology. "So. You know my name. What is yours?"

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hm, I see." Youko looked Fox over again. "I'm from the Makai, the demon world. Though I've spent a while in the human world. The humans call their world 'Earth', but I would assume that many call their homes that. And... well. I suppose the Makai could be considered a planet, though I don't know that you can leave the planet with a rocket ship or something like that."

He smirked. "Though I've never seen something like you. Most demons aren't covered in fur. A few are monstrous, but those tend to be more in the category of dumb lower-level demons."

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I did." Youko's tail twitched, he wasn't used to carrying on conversations this long. It wasn't that he was bored, exactly, it was just that he was unchallenged. And that was a state he didn't like. "A solar system, interesting. So there is life in the universe besides that one planet. That's something to think about."

His eyes narrowed, not in challenge, but in interest. "What's that leaf?" He asked, wondering what would have possessed someone to create so many fake plants. Was this world dead? He might not be able to get any more seeds here, then.

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-02 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"And you can just get it off the trees? Strange." Youko examined the false plants and scoffed. "Shoddy. They don't look real. Why they couldn't just plant real trees and flowers is beyond me. Nothing compares to the real thing."

He looked back at Fox. "An organization that kidnaps people. Che. They'd be hard-pressed to kidnap me. I'd outrun them, and outfight them. I don't think I have anything to worry about. And if they are the ones who brought us here, I'm not sure whether to kill them or thank them."

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-02 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Youko's smirk grew at Fox's question. "Yes, I'd say I'm confident. There are few things where I'm from that can stand up to me and the powers I control. So I don't really have to worry about much." 'Except demon hunters, but even then...' He thought. "And the technology here seems to be about the level it is in the human world. Maybe a little above. But I've been around for so long that not much surprises me anymore."

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-02 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Something like that, yes. All demons have some sort of spiritual power, that can be developed and harnessed, and most have some area that they specialize in. Mine happens to be plants." Youko listened to Fox as he continued.

"Ah... well. In the demon world there is very little in the way of technology, but the human world... they have gone to their moon at the least, and they seem to have satellites exploring their solar system. Cars and planes are primary means of transport."

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Heh, well." Youko looked around. "Perhaps it is not the most useful power here, yes, but it's the one I have. I'm sure I can find some sort of use for it..." And it was true, because Youko was nothing if not adaptable.

"The technology's not normal? Well, to me, technology isn't normal at all, but true, there's something different about this technology, too disorganized and irrational. I wonder if this 'organization' is behind this city. It wouldn't surprise me."

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Youko had been in the human world for long enough to pick up things, and kitsune by their very natures were curious and resourceful. He nodded. "That would make sense."

He chuckled at Fox's question. "That's a tricky one. Some would say I'm a thief. I prefer to think of it as liberating significant objects from owners who don't appreciate them as I do. Or a thief. Either one works fine for me."

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"True, not many would. I'm not ashamed of it, though. It's a worthwhile job. And someone's going to do it, why not someone who's good at it?" Youko considered Fox for a moment. "You don't look like any of the mercenaries I've known, but then again, I probably don't look like many of the thieves you've met, either."

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-09 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Youko peered at the map curiously. That would be a useful item to have, though he couldn't exactly steal it at the moment - Fox would have to look away first. "Interesting little device there. Holograms? I've seen such things in works of fiction... the human world has things like that, but not quite there yet."

"And you're right, most thieves don't point themselves out that much. I'm just confident enough to be able to point myself out and still get away with it."

[identity profile] thedemonyouko.livejournal.com 2007-09-20 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Youko smirked again. "Perhaps I'll do that here. Perhaps not. I think it'd be best to figure out the 'lay of the land', so to speak." He flicked his hair back over his shoulder again. "I don't plan to do menial labor for a living here, if that's what you mean."
