When Alphonse awoke, having no idea when he had fallen asleep, he had heard the quiet murmur of voices outside but Edward’s voice wasn’t among the murmur. When he had noticed that he immediately crawled out of the armour to take a good look at his surroundings.

The armour he had been hiding in when he had snuck aboard the rocket had been propped up against a gate of odd silvery ice and just a little way off there was a line of people waiting for something. Then just beyond the booth there seemed to be a domed city of sorts. Alphonse got the feeling this wasn’t exactly the world his brother was in before. Right now that wasn’t the most important thing however and shoving the question aside for now, he called out for his brother a few times but received no reply.

Feeling panic bubbling inside the pits of the stomach he had quickly moved over to the line to ask the people there if they had seen him but in the end all he got were negative replies. Even the person behind the booth didn’t know, saying that he saw many faces a day and couldn’t possibly remember if someone like Edward had come through the gate. Instead the man had given him a device and told him he could use that to communicate after asking his name.

With only the strange device of which he didn’t even know how it worked (the man hadn't bothered to explain), a brochure about this so-called 'Paixao' place and his resolve, Alphonse stepped into the city. He had to find his brother, that was all that mattered right now.

The situation of the Jedi Master was not all that different from that of the young man. He was also in what amounted to armor, an escape pod - when had he launched a pod? Where was his ship, and what was this planet? The computer - the pod did have one - was completely offline, and it didn't take him long after climbing out to figure out why. The pod was completely slagged.

The creature that had crawled out of that pod looked like several things at once, but was really none of them. He looked like the indigenous life, in that he was white and peaceful-looking. He looked like a rabbit, too; but that long tail definitely belonged to a different animal altogether.

The fact that he could speak blew both those ideas right out the window.

The gatekeeper had to give the diminutive creature a second look, just to make certain it was not in fact a Lumen. Ikrit stood on his hind paws, hands folded before him, gazing complacently up at the keeper, waiting. "Name?" asked the man, uncertain whether he was making a fool of himself or not.

"Jedi Master Ikrit," the fluff ball replied, with a rabbit's equivalent of a smile. "Might I inquire as to which planet I am on?"

Looking a bit awkward, the man handed over a small journal and a set of pamphlets. "Those explain everything you need to know," he said, finally going on with his job and taking up his mantle of emotionlessness. With a shrug, the Jedi master made his way past the gate and into the city, taking note of everything he could see and feel.

Ikrit smiled kindly at the young man, but shook his head. "No. Kushiban. I've never met a chimera."

It was a bit ludicrous, actually, that the kid thought he might be a chimera. They were immense creatures, after all, and most distinctly not akin to the Kushiban. Then again, the word had other definitions, particularly among Sith alchemists...

But this kid was no Sith. He was touched by the Force, moreso than some, but he wasn't immersed in it the way the Jedi and the Sith were. There was a good chance he didn't even know it.

The journal, while an unfamiliar design, was nothing new to Ikrit. The technology where he was from was undoubtedly more advanced, after all. "Have you any idea where we are?"

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ikrit took a half-hop, half-step toward the boy. "I see. Well, I can assure you that I am no chimera. I'm not even sure which planet they're usually from, to be honest." Looking up (he was still shorter, even with the boy kneeling), he tilted his head. "Paixao. Interesting name for a city, I must say..."

A couple centuries worth of traveling the galaxy had introduced him to some strange languages, and that sounded like a word from one of them. He couldn't quite place it, though, so he shrugged it off. He would contemplate it later.

"At any rate, it would seem we are both new here. Would you mind if I travel with you?" he asked, using his tail as a prop to sit back to better see the lad's face.

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ikrit did not take offense to the petting, but he didn't encourage it either. He was used to it; if the kid insisted on it, he would allow it.

"My name is Ikrit, by the way," he added as an afterthought that was almost sublimated by a combination purr and coo that, to be quite honest, was simply adorable. "What's yours?"

He was having a hard time remembering his dignity, considering the petting, but there was no harm being done after all. He'd played the part of a pet before. He could live with it for a while again...

Besides. The boy reminded him of Anakin.

"The pleasure is mine, Alphonse." Ikrit gave his familiar bunny smile and, over the next few minutes, told him a very short version of his origins. He was from the planet Kushibah, a member of a peace loving race of farmers and weavers. He elected to leave out the parts about the Force, the Jedi, and anything to do with the Sith, but the story was no less amazing for that.

He wound up with the part about his starship falling into a wormhole, then kind of shrugged; beyond that, he didn't know anything more than Al. "That's how I wound up here, I guess, though I have no idea what became of my ship."

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ikrit smiled again, listening to the lad's story. He was leaving things out, things that were undoubtedly painful to him, that much he could tell easily.

When at last they had both finished their tales, and Al had asked his question, Ikrit nodded. "I believe I should be able to figure these out. Though perhaps we should find someplace shaded? A fur coat does not make heat easy to take, I fear."

In truth, he was more concerned for Alphonse's well being. He'd been in much hotter places, but humans were notorious for needing controlled environs. It was one of the downfalls of having no fur to protect them from the elements.

"Perhaps someplace with food and drinks," he added as an afterthought, looking over the pamphlets and finally finding a map. "I think we could both do with a meal."

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Riding on shoulders and backs was definitely something Ikrit was familiar with. He'd ridden on Anakin's shoulder more than once, and even in his Padawan days he'd been something of a climber. As such, he did not hesitate to climb up onto Al's shoulder, his claws not even grazing the boy's skin; his touch was surprisingly gentle, all things considered.

"There is a cafe not far from here, according to the map. If you don't mind walking." If he did, well, Ikrit had his ways...

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ikrit nodded his accord and settled in for the journey by wrapping his tail around the back of Alphonse's neck. He would keep alert along the way, but he would also be perusing the documents and looking over the journal, trying to puzzle out the technology.

It didn't take him long to spot his first Lumen. It was a feline creature, about the same size as himself, and so strong with the Light that it practically -glowed-. Strangely enough, this disturbed Ikrit; there was such a thing as too much of a good thing, and this creature was dangerously close to crossing that line - if it hadn't already. But then, most of the people of the city seemed that way.

"Be wary of the animal life here," he murmured to Al. "Nothing taken to extremes is healthy."

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ikrit was close to leaping to the boy's rescue before Alphonse turned away; the cat had been preparing to attack, of that he was certain. The animal life of the city, most of which was larger than himself, would definitely bear watching.

It did not take the pair long to reach the cafe, now that they were on the right track again. This presented a new problem. "I don't suppose they take credit chits here," he mused, looking over the chalkboard menu that had been placed before the window. The fact that the monetary unit was denoted by an S with lines of radiance around it gave no clue to Ikrit as to what they would take, though if the tree outside was any clue, leaves and twigs from the crystal and metal plantlife were generally accepted. One of the pamphlets had mentioned something about that, he was certain. "Can you give me a boost? I don't think they'll miss a few leaves, if it's for a good cause."

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ikrit's species was not a naturally arboreal one, but that didn't stop him from being able to climb. In short order, he'd gathered a small armful of leaves and twigs, enough he figured to cover anything the two of them were likely to order.

The mention of transmutation brought a bemused smile to the Kushiban Jedi's muzzle. "If we knew what the local currency looked like, that would definitely be helpful."

So the boy was an alchemist? Odd, but not unheard of. This would bear looking into.

"As it stands, though," he said as he hopped down from the limb he was standing on, alighting on Alphonse's shoulder with little more than the weight of a feather, "I think we would be better served in presenting things as they are. Powers such as yours are not often looked upon kindly by shop tenders."

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Where I am from, alchemy is an art not often practiced openly. There are too many dark connotations among its chief practitioners." An open, if somewhat vague, statement. Sith alchemists dabbled in things most people would rather were left alone, like the creation and control of life.

"I've nothing against it, myself, so long as it's of a decent sort." A smile would hopefully tell Alphonse that Ikrit did not think it likely that he dabbled in the types of alchemy he would consider indecent.

"Onward and inward, young cavalier. There is food to be had!" he joked, with a sweeping gesture toward the door of the cafe.

Envy had spent a very uneventful night being frustrated at both the disappearance of Axel and the general lack of anything interesting in this city. After traveling all night what had to be halfway across the city, he finally found himself in a small cafe, where he decided to stay the remainder of the night in the form of one of the small white cats he'd seen wandering around the city. Never mind that said cats had attempted to take a bite out of him on several different occasions, their shape still proved to be useful.

It had been a boring morning so far, with nothing but the blond blank people eating breakfast and going about their blond blank lives. Lulled into the dull stupor that comes with prolonged boredom, Envy nearly jumped out of his skin when someone walked in wearing a very familiar red trenchcoat. It's Fullmetal! Oh, the brat was going to get it now...

Except the voice was all wrong. So was the face. No, this wasn't Fullmetal after all, Envy decided with slight disappointment. Of course, that didn't mean he couldn't figure out just who it was. If they had the same damn trenchcoat, they had to be connected somehow, right?

He leapt from his perch, landing lightly on all four feet in front of the new person, and started weaving through his ankles and purring. After all, who could resist a cute little kitty?

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ikrit's smile fell at the arrival of this new creature. It was akin in appearance to the feline they had only moments before walked away from, but its signature in the Force...

He had never, in all his life, seen anything more odd. It was at first as if there were two beings before him - and then a thousand more, all in the shell of a cat. Momentarily staggered, Ikrit reeled, placing a paw to the side of his head and giving it a good shake. This did little to ease his discomfort, though, since the amazing - and quite honestly disquieting - little beast was still -right there-, purring along like a kitten.

His ears twitching, Ikrit hopped down from Alphonse's shoulder to investigate more closely.

[identity profile] deadliestofsins.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Envy arched his back against the petting and purred all the louder. This was possibly the most humiliating thing on the planet, but between that and blowing his cover before he found out just who this kid was, he'd take a little humiliation any day. It wasn't like anybody knew just who was in this cat's body anyway.

He'd have to watch out for this other thing, though. It seemed to be a whole lot smarter than it looked. Still keeping up the cat act, he pulled away from the kid's hands and made his way over to the...the whatever it was...chimera, maybe?...and lightly touched noses with it.

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Had Ikrit been a master of Force telepathy, he might have caught the thought about chimeras, made the connection, and gone fully on the defensive. As it was, the creature - whatever it was, for Ikrit was certain it was no cat - seemed safe enough for the time being. Even if it did seem to be a changeling of some sort.

"That is no ordinary animal," he said bluntly, sitting back on his haunches and observing the feline a little more. The nose touching had been a bit of a throw-off; just a bit too friendly a movement, equivalent to a peck on the cheek among Ikrit's kind. "Kindly maintain your distance until we are better acquainted," he requested of the cat-that-wasn't.

[identity profile] deadliestofsins.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Envy sat back on his haunches, mirroring the action of the...the rabbit. It was obviously smarter than it looked, and he'd received a bit of a shock when it started talking. It obviously wasn't a chimera - it had proven itself far too intelligent for that.

So he cocked his head to the side, pretending not to understand the words directed at him. If all else failed, he could at least overload the kid with cute.

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-28 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ikrit was decidedly wary of the feline, but could not in good grace turn down the proffered shoulder. "Yes, let's. Maybe we can figure some things out over dinner..." Like whether or not their new 'friend' was a soul eating monster from the Dark Side.

And just how in the seven hells they were going to get back to their respective homes, if it was even possible. Which, considering the lack of obvious technology aside from the domes themselves and the fact that they had weather, did not seem likely.

The duo (now trio, thanks to Envy) was soon seated at a small table in the back. Ikrit, foregoing a stool or even a highchair, had opted to sit on the table itself, reposed in a calm, meditative position. Judging by the local flora and fauna, Ikrit guessed it was unlikely that they would have any of the foods he was used to eating, so he opted for a salad and a beverage he was assured consisted of the finest natural ingredients available.

Unbeknownst to him, that included the essence of Light itself.

[identity profile] deadliestofsins.livejournal.com 2007-07-28 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Envy had changed his mind: this had to be the most humiliating thing on the planet. Why did he choose to be a cat, of all things? But it had gotten him into the kid's good graces (not to mention his arms, he thought with chagrin), so he couldn't complain too much.

There wasn't anything he could really do except sit and wait, so he remained nestled in the kid's lap and did just that.

[identity profile] bunny-jedi.livejournal.com 2007-07-28 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The Jedi master watched Alphonse's movements bemusedly for a moment, before walking across the table to join him. "The first order of business, it would seem, is to find a power switch," he reasoned. Electronic things didn't work so well when they weren't turned on after all.

"Ah, there it is. Now, according to the manual, there are options for accessing a personal journal as well as a communal message board, and a setting that will allow one to speak directly to someone else. Let's see..."

The Kushiban fiddled with the journal, putting his hands - for he did indeed have hands, with opposable thumbs and everything - to good use as he plied the keyboard. "There seems to be a built in tutorial feature as well; that should help."

While the two of them were engrossed in their study of the journals (Ikrit had taken out his own, where Alphonse could use his own to learn), their food and drinks arrived. Ikrit bowed politely to the waitress and picked up a lettuce leaf to nibble on while he worked.

[identity profile] deadliestofsins.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Envy had about gone out of his mind from frustration and boredom watching these two try to figure out the journals. He'd mastered the things in five minutes, and here they were poking around them like they held the secret to the universe.

There was one advantage to the form he was in and the seat he had - he could see everything the kid did in his journal. It took all of his self-control not to visibly react when he found out just who the kid was. No way was he Fullmetal's brother! And what the hell were they talking about? None of that stuff had ever happened!

Envy sniffed distractedly at the milk as it arrived, rejecting it in favor of the information he could find on the kid's journal. This was too good to pass up.
