Another Kind of Destiny? [Active]

Character(s): Hayate, Felix, open to others
Content: Hayate arrives, has a moment, then returns to being stoic. Meets Felix who is also arriving.
Setting: Vanaheim Gate
Time: Midday
Warnings: None.

When he woke on his back in the dirt, the old fear was there. He couldn't help it, and he hated himself for feeling it, but until he flexed his toes and knew that he could still move his legs, he worried. Sometimes when he woke from a rare, deep sleep he would feel it. Any time he was knocked out it came. He had been in a coma for eight months after his back had been broken, and the time he'd been crippled had been harder on him than any other. Understandable that he would fear returning to that state.

He was stronger now, much stronger, and he owed DOATEC at least something small for repairing his broken spine and allowing him to walk again. He would never feel grateful to them, though, not after he was used a guinea pig to their experiments. He would never know what all they had done to him, but he heard rumors that they had messed with him on the genetic level. That knowledge made a man feel dirty.

Hayate pushed himself to sitting and gracefully rose to standing. He did not bother to brush himself off. If he was dirty, he would find new clothes, eventually, and until then he wouldn't worry about it. Until then, he had other things to worry about. One quick look around confirmed that he had never been here before. Standing before gates, it seemed, with a long line of people waiting to enter. Disconcerting, but he would do nothing to draw attention to himself.

To his dismay, he couldn't remember what he had been doing... how had he gotten here? He vaguely remembered being on the hunt for Kasumi, they had found her and were giving chase, but he'd held back until the others were well on their way... and then... it was clouded. The memory would not come. He had taken a hit, or been knocked out and brought... here? But why? He could surely just escape and return home as soon as he figured out where he was. Was this another ploy by DOATEC? He did not flatter himself that that would want him back. He was a failed experiment.

Then again, they had also assumed he would die in the Black Forest and he had exceeded those expectations. Now he was stronger. Perhaps they just wanted him dead so he would quit causing them grief. That thought gave him some measure of perverse pleasure, and he vowed again to see them completely eradicated.

"'Scuse me, sir, but what is your name?" Hayate looked at the person speaking, eying him. If this was indeed DOATEC, they already knew his name. But he responded anyway.

"I am Hayate." he replied before taking the offered journal and entering the city.

Felix opened his eyes, blinking up at the sky before getting up. He'd reached Idejima with Sheba in tow, and then...

He looked around. ...Where am I? This wasn't the peninsula, he was sure of that. But if it wasn't...then how had he gotten here? A further search showed that none of his companions had come here. He wasn't sure if this was good or not.

"Name?" The sudden voice startled Felix out of his thoughts, and he turned to see a man at the entrance to a great city. He would have wanted to look around some more, but it was probably best if he didn't keep this man waiting. "My name is Felix." The man then offered him a box, or book or something, and gestured towards the city behind him. "Welcome to Paixao." Confused, and obviously very lost, Felix entered the city.

Seeing someone who looked just as lost as he was (and wasn't blonde like the rest of the inhabitants that he could see) was somewhat comforting; he turned to the stranger, shaking his head. "Sorry, I don't. All I know is that this place is called Paixao..."

He lifted up the strange object that the man at the gate had given him. I wonder if this thing is some sort of clue to where I am?
