Something Terrible [Completed]
Character(s): Kairi, Riku, Rosette
Content: The three come through Riku's portal to the room in the Actua Are, and Sora isn't with them.
Setting: Actua Are (I don't know which one, Snow?)
Time: Later evening
Stepping from the portal, Kairi felt an uplifting sort of feeling, despite the fact that she had gone through the darkness. But she wasn't feeling any strange side-effects, and so she imagined that everything was fine.
Kairi had been the first one into the hotel. She wondered if Sora and Riku had been expecting anyone else around, but she found the room deserted. Peacefully. She wandered around, poking and prodding at the furniture. Perhaps here they could talk more... she had a year to catch up on with her friends! Leaving her back on the island... that had been... strange. And lonely. Sure... she had Selphie, but...
Things just weren't the same.
She glanced around when Rosette came through and smiled softly to her. "Looks like this is our destination. Actua Are, I'll assume."
In all reality, Kairi had barely seen any of the city. Not long after she had entered had those "Nobodies" attacked and she had to seek safety from a stranger until her friends came to her rescue. ...Her rescue. Kairi glanced down. Sometimes she wished she had a keyblade so that she could fight, too.
There was a lull.
She waited, and waited, staring into the swirling darkness. Her uplifting feeling was sinking as time went on. It's fine. They're fine. They'll come. She needed a distraction. Small talk! Her attention drifted back to Rosette. "So... where do you come from? What's your home like?" Again, a soft smile crossed her face, but this one was more forced. "My friends and I came from an island. It was... beautiful. We use to run around and joke all the times we were kids."
Kairi cast a nervous glance to the portal - she saw something! "So -" she closed her mouth. Riku! She went to him quickly, so worried about his strength. She knew he was strong... but... how much, was too much for Riku?
The portal wrapped shut. Her blue eyes looked where it had been, growing almost scared. Her hands grazed Riku's arms as if to steady him, but her mind wasn't focused. "Where's... Where's Sora?"

She managed to smile back at Kairi. "Yeah, looks like."
The hotel was actually pretty nice, especially compared to what Rosette had seen in downtown New York. The furniture was simple but elegant, the room was big enough for four people to live comfortably, and the whole thing was clean.
The quick glance around the hotel didn't take long, and Rosette scrambled to find something to occupy her thoughts during the following lull. She hated waiting, and the worried silence wasn't helping anything. Where on God's green Earth had the boys gotten to?
She jumped slightly, jerked out of her thoughts by Kairi's chatter and grateful for it. "I'm from New York," she replied. "It's a big city. Kinda dirty, all sorts of nutjobs, but...well, it's home." She smiled, reminiscing slightly. "But an island sure sounds nice."
Rosette whipped around at Kairi's exclamation, just in time to see Riku step out of the portal and watch it close. But that...something wasn't right...
She drew a soft breath at Kairi's words. That's right. Sora was missing. But she thought he was going to come as well...he hadn't stayed behind, had he? Or maybe he-
Her next thought made her shiver again. "He's not..." she managed quietly, gesturing towards where the portal had been. "He's not still in...there...is he?"

And was grateful for Kairi being there, his hands reaching to her shoulders to steady himself. His eyes had gone to a full amber now, and he was feeling a bit pained. He didn't make that obvious; he couldn't worry Kairi more than she already was. First thing he did once he steadied himself was look around, and found that... the room was empty, except for them. "... Naminè? Tod? Kyo?" they'd sent the two they'd rescued to this place, but... where... were they now? And the others?
Everyone was gone.
"... he's not in there," was his response to Rosette, and he shifted away from Kairi to walk to the bed that Tod had been on with his Organization coat, fingers skimming the heavy material that had been folded repeatedly and with care. Something had happened, and he wasn't here to make sure everyone was all right. But now, Sora was gone.
Picking the coat up, he tried to keep his balance steady to keep it from being obvious that he wasn't doing good at all. The remnants of Ansem left behind were laughing, finding too much humor in what was going on, and it wasn't helping.
Eventually he just gave up on standing and let himself fall back carefully, landing on the floor and leaning against the second bed with a slight thud. "Damnit... damnit... I don't know what happened... he was in front of me, but..." he pushed his hand into his hair, clutching at it slightly before dragging it down to cover most of his face.

Kairi wondered who the people Riku called out to were. If they weren't here, then hopefully they were safe. It didn't seem like there had been any trouble in the room, so they wouldn't have had to flee.
She blinked at the jacket in Riku's hands. It looked familiar. A lot like the one that that kid had... Where had he gotten it? No matter. Her mind was racing, trying to focus on the matter at hand.
Sora...
Where was he?
Why had he have to disappear after she had been so happy at finally seeing him again...?
"I-I... I'm sure he's fine..." she whispered carefully, trying to look strong. Her nervousness was showing. She stared down at the floor, her eyes shifty. "Maybe... he took a detour!" She doubted that was possible. "Or he just saw something that... um... distracted him! You know Sora, Riku! He's such a lazy boy. And so easily distracted. That's right... you know..." she trailed off and sat down slowly onto one of the beds.
She was almost forgetting that there were others in the room. She would have apologized to Rosette if she was feeling more strongly about the situation, but all she could do was ring her hands together. ... What were they going to do? Should they search the city?
"...The journals!" she gasped suddenly. "If he's gotten himself lost, I'm sure he'd use his head a bit and check them!"

But even as a nearly perfect stranger, it was impossible not to pick up on the tension permeating the room. Having your best friend disappear tended to put people on edge.
But wasn't that what had happened to her? Hadn't she just disappeared from the Order? Chrno had to be worried sick...
She shut that train of thought out of her mind. Worrying about that now wouldn't help at all.
She moved towards the door as Riku collapsed to the floor and Kairi threw out desperate theories as to Sora's whereabouts. She didn't know these two and she didn't know anything about the city aside from what they'd told her, making her perfectly useless in this situation. They could probably figure this out fine, possibly better, without her help.
She left as silently as she could, shutting the door behind her just before Kairi's final comment about the journals floated in the air.
[OOC: Sorry for the changes, guys, but I want to get things moving before I head home. Consider this her exit and thanks for letting me thread with you!]

Kairi watched Rosette leave, almost not even noticing. Everything seemed out of focus. Her head really hurt. She had her journal opened on her lap, silently looking towards a wall. How could she phrase it? Could she even handle typing it at this point? She was stable, yes... but still...
People don't just disappear.
Her journal made a sound. She nearly jumped, startled by the silence breaking. She stared at it and her eyes widened. No... it couldn't be! But that...
Kairi! It's me, Sora.
"R-Riku..."
I'm going outside of the gates now... I forgot where, but I'll come find you when I get back, promise!!
How what that possible? How did he get back to the gate? Why was he LEAVING the gates? He should be with them! She frowned. Her vocals were failing her. Instead, she took the journal between her hands and turned it towards Riku to show him the message. "I don't understand..."

Finding Kairi and seeing ... seeing. The name was on the tip of his tongue now, but he couldn't bring it up. He heard his name though and looked up at Kairi, brow furrowed in concentration before he looked at her journal.
It took him a moment to focus his eyes from clenching them so tightly shut, but once they did, he had the most confused look on his face. If that could be possible, considering he was looking pretty confused earlier.
"... why is he leaving the city. What the hell..."

Kairi wasn't about to knock him out.
"We can't just let him go gallivanting off like that! Hasn't he learned anything?" she sighed, but put on a smile for Riku's sake. She was confused, too. But where would that get them? "Let's go track him down, ok? And then the three of us can take a nice long rest and wind down." And maybe then I can finally hear about what's been going on, right? "There's only...four gates, right? He's gotta come back through one of them!"
