Arrival [COMPLETED]

Characters: Chrno, The Doctor
Content: After being accused of a crime he didn't commit, Chrno finds himself in a strange new world.
Setting: Niflheim Gate
Time: Early afternoon
Warnings: None yet

The first day came and went, seemingly unknown to the Order. Chrno awaited quietly in the garden, silently vigilant like a puppy, although he would dislike the fact that anyone really thought of him as such. As the hours ticked by, he paced: growing worried, despite the fact that the Order continued to function.

By the dawn of the next day, he was out looking for her. He searched everywhere he ever went with her, not even bothering to tell Azmaria that he would be gone. They would not worry about his absence, and she was probably busy with chores anyway. It took days to traverse by foot, but Chrno dared not to tap into his powers... in fear that Rosette would be nearby, injured. If she was injured and he tapped into her soul energy.. no, that was out of the question.

The search took a week, with Chrno only resting when he'd collapsed due to exhaustion. No closer was he to actually finding Rosette.. in fact, it appeared that she vanished without a trace.

Did something happen to her while they were seperated? Chrno ticked off all the terrible possibilities imaginable in his mind as he headed back to the Order, almost two weeks after he originally left, travel ragged. Silently, he hoped that maybe Rosette was still there, that maybe she would hit him for vanishing for so long.

The Order had been awaiting his return. Guns pointed, they had him surrounded. Sister Kate's voice yelled commands at the exorcists, each aiming their guns at him. Chrno was confused, eyes wide.. although he didn't have time to react. His friend's, Rosette's friends.. decided to practice target practice on him.

He ran. He ran as fast as his wearied legs could carry him, as fast and as far away from the Order as possible. He panicked, his heart racing, hearing their words over and over again.

Chrno, you are hereby sentenced to death for the death of Rosette.

"I didn't kill her.. I didn't kill her.." He repeated, out of breath from running. He slowed down in front of Mary's tomb, the same tomb he slumbered in for 50 years until Rosette found him.

The exorcists seemed to predict this, and again Chrno was surrounded. They yelled at him, calling him a filthy devil, a murderer.. Chrno's eyes went wide as panick and helplessness overwhelmed him.

And yet, even at that moment, he never thought of transforming.

Chrno shielded himself from the array of bullets that came flying at him, awaiting their impact.

--------------------------------

Nothing ever came.

He figured death would hurt a lot more, especially after being nailed with bullets laced with holy water. And yet.. there was nothing. Slowly, after what felt like an eternity, Chrno opened a red eye and blinked around.

The sun was out. That was odd thing number one. His arms lowered slowly and Chrno blinked, adjusting to the bright glow that seemed to emit from everything. Everything was shiny. Everything.. was ice.

This new emotional overload wasn't handled well by the devil, whom promptly collapsed to his knees and tried very hard to get his heart to stop pounding. His eyes still stung with tears and his muscles ached from being forced so much on little to no rest. His mind whirred with the accusations of the nuns from the Order, and each time they did he became more and more convinced that maybe he did kill her..

He remained kneeling on the ground, unaware of his surroundings for the moment.

Finally, he composed himself enough to stand up, and.. although a bit teetering with fatigue, he managed to walk forward.. coming right to a gate.

"So.. maybe I did die.." Chrno bemusedly mumbled to himself as he got blocked by a crowd of people standing outside the gate. A man stood in his way as the crowd cleared, and spoke at him quickly. At first Chrno didn't understand, and had to focus his weary ears to get what the gatekeeper had said. "M-My name? Its Chrno.." He stated, and instantly a small triangle was handed to him and he was moved aside so the next person could come through. Blinking a few times, he stood there curiously looking over the triangle, trying to determine its purpose.

Unfortunately, his weary attention was so focused on the triangle thing that he wasn't paying attention to where he was going as he walked into the city.

Blond... blond... Oh! No-no, she was blond too. Interesting. The population seemed to be all blond and blue eyed, with an impeccable taste for victorian era clothing.

What sort of city was this? For being named 'Passion', the people certainly weren't very passionate. There was something odd about them; they came across very flat, like they were two dimensional. There was a severe lack of any real personality, at least as far as humans went.

However something, or rather someone, did catch the Doctor's eye. The boy stood out like a sore thumb amongst the population. Well, he probably did too, but that was beside the point. The boy was clearly not human. It had only taken a quick glance for the Doctor could see that. The strange boy seemed rather lost too.

Oh, speaking of strange, it seemed to be suddenly getting colder. He glanced up a minute to the false sky. That was a rather sudden change of weather. He pondered for a moment just what was controlling the weather, but pushed it aside for now. It was just one of many things to investigate.

Turning his attention back to the boy, he waited till the boy passed by him before the Doctor called out in greeting to him, "Oh, hello there! You're looking rather lost."

"Nope," the Doctor replied, nonchalantly, "Not a thing." He didn't seem terribly worried about that however. It was as if he was used to this sort of thing, and... he was. Half the fun was not knowing.

"Did... you just arrive here too?" he asked the boy, curiously. He seemed a little too lost to belong here, but how would he have gotten here without a time ship?

Wait. Was the snow coming down heavier? Glancing up, the Doctor was surprised to see the snow that had been just casually floating down one minute, was coming down harder and faster by the minute. It was going to be a blizzard at the rate it was going.

"Well, I must say, I wouldn't recommend this place for a vacation. The weather is little to be desired," he commented as he glanced around for shelter. It was either that or heading back to the TARDIS.

"Hmmm... a false sky, very well painted though, but I wouldn't have liked to be the one up there doing it all... imagine the neck ache! Makes my neck hurt just thinking about it," he babbled on for a moment, distracted again by the snow, "So, fake sky, but real looking clouds and very real snow."

"I wonder what sort of environment system this place has..." he trailed off, as he continued to watch the snow a moment. Oh wait? Had the boy said something about... killing someone?

"Er, sorry, what was that?" the Doctor said, glancing back to the boy, "......Killed who?"

"Ah, wait, tell me in a tick," he suddenly said, cutting in before the boy could have even given him an answer. "Standing out here in this snow isn't going to do us any good."

The snow was coming down even harder now, turning into blizzard like weather, collecting quickly into deep snow around their feet. Shelter was definitely now in the forefront of the Doctor's mind.

((No problem! Sorry took me a bit to respond >.< The Doctor was givin' me a bit of problems.. but got my hands on couple audio books and that helped quite a bit. Edit: ACK. Was looking back at thread and realized I'd totally hit the wrong reply button the other day. I fail... Just fixing... ohsidjfosidfs *fixes html* >.<;))

The Doctor glanced to the point-eared kid and opened to reply, but found he didn't have an exact answer. "Ah... Yes. That's a very good question."

Where could they go? Pulling out the journal he'd been given at the gate, he spent a moment poking around it, and quickly pulled up the map. Well, there didn't seem to be a great deal around here at all. Nothing very close. There were buildings around, but it seemed most of them were closed up. Not that a lock could stop the Doctor, or rather his sonic screwdriver, but he imagined there were people inside there, and barging in MIGHT not be appreciated.

Not that he really had a problem with barging in. He did that enough, but there was the option of returning to the TARDIS which was quite close to here.

"Ah, well, I have somewhere we can get out of this weather, if you want to follow me," he offered. The boy already was in a strange place, so at this point the TARDIS wouldn't really be any more a shock, would it?

Tucking the journal, which the Doctor's was more a rectangle actually, back into his pocket. "Oh that? An electronic journal, basically. A pretty primitive device, but rather amusing," the Doctor replied, glancing around, trying to get his bearings through the falling snow.

"Ah, I do believe I left it... this way," he said after a moment, "Come along!"

He lead Chrno back towards the gate, and down an alleyway between several buildings, where waiting for them was a dark blue box with the words, 'Police Public Call Box', written in large letters along the top. Digging into his pocket, he pulled out an object which was some kind of key and unlocked the door.

"Right, there we go," he said, pulling the door open and inviting Chrno to go in first, "In you go, watch your step... it's a bit dark in there I'm afraid. She's running on low power."

"This is the TARDIS," the Doctor answered, after closing the door behind him and hopping up onto the raised platform, and leaning over the center console. The center column sent a pale blue-green glow through the darkened inside, just barely lighting the rather alien interior.

"Well, still running on low power, doesn't make sense though. She should be fine..." he muttered after fiddling with a few of the odd looking buttons. Finally he gave up and turned around, leaning casually against the console, crossing his arms.

"So, where were we... Ah yes! You said something about killing someone?" he asked, although didn't expect an immediate answer. In fact he was expecting the usual string of questions about now. Which usually started with his favorite - 'How is the inside bigger than the outside?'.

"The TARDIS... "Time And Relative Dimensions In Space" which means, in short, the inside is bigger than the outside," he explained, although it wasn't really much of an explanation. "It's my ship, basically."

"I wasn't brought here myself, but rather the TARDIS was. I thought it'd gotten here itself, since she's rather good at ending up in the wrong place, but it seems that might not have been the case," he babbled on, "I wonder how many others are being brought here. You and I can't be the only ones, can we?"

Oh, wait right. He'd asked about what the boy had said. "So you were being chased? Did something happen to bring you here or...?" he asked, passing by the bit about Rosette as it seemed whatever had happened sounded unintentional from the emotion Chrno was showing.

"Oh, I'm the Doctor by the way. What would your name be?" he added.

"Well, Chrno, I don't know about you, but I'm quite certain I'm alive," he said with a grin before whirling around to lean over the console in thought.

"Coming in... All of them? Hmm... And they weren't keen on letting me go back to the gate. Thought I was trying to leave..." he continued, trying to figure out the pieces to a puzzle that he didn't even know the size of.

"So, a place where people come in, but none come out," he finalized, "But.. why? Why would a place, or someone want to gather us here? For what purpose?"

The Doctor didn't expect answers to these questions, since neither yet had them. They were meant to be left hanging unanswered.

He then suddenly slid his hand into his coat pocket and pulled out the journal. "Oh, right! The journal... ought to have a look at this..."

Distracted from his guest for a bit, he opened the rectangular device and he busily began to push at buttons. He glanced at the different entries, and quickly wrote one up of his own to see what sort of responses he'd get.

He was a bit surprised though when he suddenly got messaged out of the blue. Ohho... It had a kind of instant message ability? He answered and found himself speaking to a confused girl. He didn't have much to help her however, until suddenly the name she'd given him dawned on him.

Well, wasn't this a coincidence? The Time Lord didn't really believe in coincidences, however it was pretty lucky he had to admit. After typing a couple more replies, he finally closed the journal, tucking it back into his pocket and giving chrno a grin.

"Come on! We're heading off to the train station," he said, hustling back off the platform and down the ramp to the door, "I just got in contact with someone who wants to find you, and I somehow don't think you want to wait here for her. So, come on!"

With that he pushed open the door, holding it open, to wait for Chrno to emerge so he could close and make sure it was locked, so they could be off. It was going to take them awhile to get to the center of Paixao, so he'd have plenty of time to explain to Chrno what had just happened en-route.

He did pause as he held the door to look curiously to the clear sky. It seemed in the short time they'd been in the TARDIS the strange weather had come to an end, the snow now gone.

"I'm pretty sure I just had a chat with your contractor," he answered, as he locked the door.

"She's taking the train and I said we'd meet her at the central station. You don't have any objections to that, right? Right. So let's not keep her waiting!" the Doctor said, brisky taking off down the alleyway towards the street.
