Not so Hakuna Matata [Completed]
Character(s): Pumbaa, Misamisa and Rukia
Content: Pumbaa's arrives and is utterly confused.
Setting: Muspelheim Gate area
Time: Evening
Warnings: Um .. smell? ;D + Yelling and shrieking!
Pumbaa stirred from where he lay, sprawled out on his back. With a large yawn he rolled over, and stretched as he rose to his hooves. That had been a rather good long nap. Ah dinnertime!
Not even stopping to ponder where he was, he poked through the grass, his large nose snuffling along the ground. He continued this for a good long time, till it finally twigged on him something didn’t smell quite right. And where were the bugs?!
Standing more upright he glanced around. Uhhh .. this didn't look like the Pridelands. Confused, he stepped from the grass. Where'd Pride Rock go? Wait ... where was Timon?!
"Uhh .. Timon? Simba? Anyone...?" he called out.
Not receiving any answer he looked around again, his eyes narrowing at the huge, strange sure-not-a-tree-or-a-rock thing not far from where he was. He had no clue what it was. Part of him was curious, and part of him felt like he should run. Curiosity won out and so he plodded up to what he had decided was some kind of above ground cave.
Some weird pink ape-like animal, that he’d never seen before, stood at the entrance, in some .. square .. thing.
"Uh... Hello?" Pumbaa said cautiously.
"Welcome to Paixao! Name?"
Pumbaa tilted his head, confusion written all over his face. "Uh. Pumbaa. Uhhh ... whaaaat's a Pie - zow?"
The pink animal rolled its eyes, "This is Paixao. The City of Paixao. Here's your complimentary journal. Please enjoy your stay." Leaning down to drop something around the Pumbaa's neck, it rose rather quickly and plugged its nose as it got a whiff of a badly timed odor release.
Pumbaa noticed this and mumbled a, "Oops, sorry."
Guessing the pink creature wanted nothing more to do with him now, as it had already started to talk to another pink ape creature that had come up behind him, the warthog stepped through the gate, his mouth promptly falling open into a gape. Poor Pumbaa, his simple mind could scarcely comprehend exactly what he was seeing. It took awhile before the gears started moving again.
"I'm ... so confused!" he bemoaned.
Pulling his eyes from all the weird sights before him, he took a moment to look at what he’d been given. He fumbled awkwardly around with it, and managed to get it open. He poked at it pressing many of the buttons all at once and such but really had no idea what he was doing, and hoofs made everything that much more difficult.
"OOOOOOoooooh! I Wish Timon was here! He'd know what this thing and place was! He'd know what to do!" he cried, tears starting to leak from his eyes.
Plopping down on his behind, he did the only thing he could think to do at a time like this.

Letting go of her head and looking around, Misa finds herself in the middle of a forest. She does remember going to a forest right before this but she thinks she remembers leaving it too. After that she went to see Raito and-- "Wahh!!" She wails at no one in particular as she finally remembers what happened before she suddenly blacked out. Raito was just telling her about the new world and then she cannot remember anything else after that.
Quickly standing up, she looks around frantically for any sign of civilization. Did Raito bring her here? If so, where is he? Did she dream the whole exchange? Had she been sleep walking? Catching sight of a line of people, Misa quickly runs that way. Someone might know where she is! Approaching the line however, Misa sees that most of the people lining to enter the strange gate looks rather unfriendly and scary. Joining the line, she decides to ask the gatekeeper instead.
Soon enough, one by one the people enters the gate, most of them with a confused expression on their faces. Once it is her turn, Misa bows quickly but deeply at the gatekeeper, "Hi hi!" She cheerfully greets him.
Expecting a warm reply in return, Misa stops herself from frowning when the gatekeeper monotnonously asked her, "Name?" Looking down at the notepad the man is holding, she contemplates whether she should tell him her real name or not. If nothing else, she has learned that people can kill you using only your name.
"Misa's name is Misamisa!" She leaves out her last name on purpose, just in case. The gatekeeper doesn't seem to care whether it is her real name or not. Replying with a nod, he offers her a square-shaped metal object and turns his attention to the person behind her. "Oh wait! Misa has a question!" But he is already talking to the other person and doesn't seem willing to turn his attention back to her. How rude. With a scowl, she walks through the gate.
After she is quite a way from the gate, Misa stops in her tracks and looks around her frantically again. Where could she be? Deepening her frown, she was just about to let out a whine when someone let out a wail first. Instinctively, she turns around to find the owner of the voice. Lo and behold! It is... a boar.
Misa squeals at it while jumping away. It looks so dirty and it has dangerous tusks too! Misa read somewhere that boars are very dangerous and that she can get killed by it. She doesn't want to die yet, she wants to see Raito's new world. And the most brilliant idea she could think of pops into her head, "Raitooooo!!"

"YAAAAH!" he promptly let out as he hopped onto all fours and turned to look at the animal beside him.
When the ape-thing, which appeared female, let out her own cry, Pumbaa wasted no time in scrambling to back away from her. Who knew what a "raito" was or meant. Was she going to eat him? Should he run? Hide? He wasn't sure in his scramble to get away from the girl, sounds of desperation and fright pouring from his mouth.
Stumbling only a few steps, he bumped into some tall, tree-like thing without branches (which was, unbeknownst to him, a lamp post). He ducked around behind it promptly and threw his forelegs over his snout to cover his eyes, his hind quarter still raised high in the air.
The whimpering warthog decided to hope it would go away, since he was now out of view. Of course, the lamp post did very little to hide him. He might as well have been still in plain view for what good it did him, however the problem with his hiding place had not even begun to dawn on him.

Her brow creasing in puzzlement, Rukia gazed silently up at the enormous gates that loomed before her, a hand resting on the hilt of her sword. Wasn't she supposed to get back to the mortal world?
Where was this place?
She knew she hadn't taken a wrong turn somewhere - Soul Society's pathway to the human world was unerringly straight, and Rukia probably would know if she had made a turn anywhere in the passage.
She had remembered rushing back to the mortal realm to help Ichigo and the others defend it, but why was she standing here with an entire line of people waiting for her?
Deciding to stand in line anyway, since gaping at this strange...city like a fish probably wasn't going to help, Rukia took the chance to weigh her options. What was she going to do now, then? The Hell Butterfly was fluttering around her as well, and from the soft, powdery beats of its wings, it was probably agitated.
Which brought her to another disturbing conclusion: it didn't know where they were, either?
This was not looking good.
The butterfly finally settled on her shoulder, ebony wings fluttering lazily now, and she moved through the line quickly, giving her name to the person at the gates and asking a few quick questions. The man didn't seem too helpful; all she knew of this was that it was some kind of city named Paixao and the thing he'd just given her was a journal of some kind.
...Odd.
What was even more odd, was the fact that she distinctly heard two sharp, shrill voices scream something - names, perhaps - one after another. Wincing, the shinigami's eyes fell on a pretty blonde girl - one who seemed to be from the mortal realm, from the clothes she was wearing - and...and what was that doing behind the lamp post?
And why did the two of them look so terrified of each other? If the situation wasn't so dire, Rukia would probably have laughed at the entire tableau, which reminded her of one of the cartoons she'd watched while she had mooched at Ichigo's residence.
Now, however, she decided that she probably should try to resolve the situation.
Probably.
"What's going on?"

Still screaming on top of her lungs, Misa is just starting to wonder when the boar is going to finally strike her. Her lungs are getting so sore. If she is going to die, she would want to save her voice so she can say a few last words. Misa stops screaming when suddenly a female voice speaks. Opening her eyes hesitantly to see the owner of the voice, she sees a dark-haired girl with a black butterfly perched on her shoulder. Where's the boar?
"Eh?" Misa dumbfoundedly replies. "Uhm, there was a..." she lets her words trail off as she looks around for the boar. Spotting him behind the lamp post, Misa jumps again in fright and points at it, "There it is!" The girl doesn't look very powerful, but who knows? Maybe the girl will save Misa's life! "Waahh!! Get it away from me!"
no subject
Screaming .. screaming .. then another voice. Eh? Peeking out from under his leg, he spots yet another pink-ape creature that's all covered with some weird black .. fur? But it's not really furry... His head starts to hurt just trying to think about it, so he ignores it. He'll ask Timon later.
Huh? What? Oh oops ... He realizes as rests his legs back down to the ground that he didn't get very far did he? And this tree wasn't very wide ... Oh ... oops. It now finally hits him that he chose a poor hiding spot. Maybe it's time to run before she has a chance to make dinner out of him.
His running plan is quickly distracted when she suddenly screams something about getting away from her. Her words are processed slowly ... Get away doesn't usually something that someone planning to eat you says...
"Ah .. uh .. um ... But ... you mean .. You *aren't* going to eat me??" Pumbaa questions, confusion written all over his face.

The weird-looking talking pig was...for want of a better word, conversing. Rukia supposed that what with the few times she had seen Yoruichi around as a cat, it should be so surprising, but this was a pig.
Peering at him interestedly, grimacing faintly at the pungent odor that rose up from the weird-looking pig, Rukia surveyed him, her gaze openly curious. "Are you a shinigami too?" Perhaps he was like Yoruichi, going under another disguise.
That could happen, right?
Looking briefly over at Misa, she smiled faintly. "This pig here won't hurt you, Miss."
no subject
"Uhh..." is all she can say about the whole situation. What else can she say, don't talk to it? Misa blinks dubiously at the girl. Actually, there is something she can say. "It's not a pig, it's a boar!" Who cares whether it is relevant or not, it is a boar. Being right is a nice feeling.
no subject
Tilting his head to the dark fured one he gave her a long, blank look, "Whaaats a sheeenygahmi?"
'Uh oh .. you called him a pig...' Timon's usual reply to that word echoed through the warthog's head as the 'p-word' was brought into things. His blankness turned annoyed as he rose back to his hoofs.
"Oooooo .. that's MISTER Pig to you!" he cried out in protest, "And I'm NOT a boar!"
He plopped his behind back down, lifting one hoof briefly to his chest, "I am a warthog!" he proclaimed proudly, snout high in the air. Resting his hoof back to the ground his expression slipped into a pleasant smile, "The name's Pumbaa!" He didn't think twice about offering his name.
"But ... uh .. um ... Whaaaat are you two? I've NEVER seen a pink-ape before," he questioned, baffled returning to his expression.

Rukia had the grace to look mildly sheepish at the pretty blond girl's correction, then openly apologetic when the pi--boar--warthog seemed to take umbrage to the name.
Having spent the past years of her life in the noble house of the austere Kuchiki Byakuya, Rukia had been taught that manners were everything, and that according to Nii-sama, everyone was watching the Kuchiki family, and they could not afford to show a less than dignified exterior.
The Kuchiki name was one of prestige, after all, or so one of the servants had told her one day. The admonishment seemed like a discreet insult to Rukia's humble beginnings, but she learnt how to overlook it; for the sole reason that if she got pissed off whenever someone insinuated that she was not fit to take on the Kuchiki name, she'd have a perpetual chip on her shoulder, like one Kurotsuchi Mayuri.
Bowing slightly in sincere apology, Rukia murmured. "My apologies, Pumbaa." She frowned slightly, however, when Pumbaa's pink-ape comment was registered, and she couldn't help but feel a faint twinge of indignance. They were not apes, and besides, if she really wanted to look like an animal, Chappiri would be a much better choice, right? Bunnies would definitely beat monkeys any time!
"A shinigami is a Death God," she told him, then continued as she looked over at Misa. "We're not monkeys, we're humans." Another pause, then. "My name is Kuchiki Rukia."
no subject
"But--" Misa starts to protest when Rukia suddenly apologized to the pig/boar/warthog. Perhaps apologizing would be a better move. After all, it might make the pig/boar/warthog-named-Pumbaa decide not to kill them. "Oh, yes! Misa is very sorry, Pumbaa-san!" She gives him a quick bow and a sweet smile. The smile usually works in making people decide against hurting her, but who knows how a warthog thinks? Misa doesn't even know what a warthog really means. It makes her think of a war-thug, but that makes little sense.
Misa doesn't have much time to muse on warthogs however, since the dark-haired girl suddenly brought to mind the word that she has uttered several times already. Shinigami. How come she knows about Shinigamis? Looking over to the girl who introduced herself as Rukia, Misa cannot see her name or lifespan. Does she own a Death Note too? Misa should not give her a real name then!
"Uhm, yeah! Misa is not a monkey!" She places her hands on her hips and cries out to the warthog, whatever warthog is. "And Misa's name is Misamisa!" She makes a note to find out more about Rukia as they go along. "Nice to meet both of you!"
no subject
"I-I don't understand, I'm sorry," he intoned regretfully, "I'm so confused.... I've never heard of "gods" or "humans" ..."
"Oh well!" he said, shrugging his shoulders, returning to a friendly smile, "I guess I have met some now!" Sometimes it was just better not to think.
"So ... uhhh ..." he started to say but was interrupted when the journal around his neck that he'd failed to close much less turn off, came to life. His journal apparently had some sort of vocal ability, but this was lost on Pumbaa more so than a "shinigami" or a "human" was.
The voice didn't sound exactly like Timon, but it was speaking like him, and that was enough for Pumbaa to think it was him.
Sitting back on his haunches he fumbled with the object between his hoofs awkwardly, "Timon?!?!!!!"
To say Pumbaa was excited and relieved would be an understatement. "Is that you? OHHHHHHHHH TIMON! I'm alright! I'm just SO lost and confused! ... I ..."
It sounded like the warthog was close to crying until Pumbaa's speech came to a halt as a thought hit him. Why was Timon talking to him from this funny black thing? Unless...
"OH NO!!!" Pumbaa switched suddenly back into panic mode, his usually low voice cracking into higher pitched tones. "How did you get into this small black thing, Timon?!? This is TERRIBLE! How are we going to get you out?!"
"Ahhhhhhhh! HEEEEELPPPP! HEEEEEEEEELP! My bestest best buddy, Timon, is trapped in this thing! HELP!"
Forgetting about Misamisa and Rukia at this point, he hopped to his feet running in a small circle, which wasn't really accomplishing anything, but when Pumbaa panicked common sense tended to fly out the window.
no subject
Misamisa? Well, that was a nice name. The girl reminded her of Inoue, really, and Rukia briefly wondered if the redhead was doing all right. Surely she would be; Ichigo was with her as well, and if there was something she was sure of, it would be that he would come through for all his friends, no matter how dangerous the circumstances were.
She didn't have too much time to dwell on it, though, because there was something coming out from the...journal thing - a voice - and a wide-eyed Kuchiki Rukia was treated to the sight of a panicking warthog, something which added to the general surrealism of her day so far.
The Hell butterfly fluttered it's wings, a tad bit agitated by the warthog's reaction even as Rukia quickly ran through her options. Surely running around in circles wasn't the answer, right?
And just how did that voice get into the journal thing in the first place? Was it even supposed to do that?
Darn, if Ichigo was here, he'd probably know how to work these devices.
"H-hey, calm down! We'll try to get your friend out, all right?" She didn't have the faintest idea of how to do it, but she was going to try, anyway.
no subject
While Pumbaa excitedly talks to his friend, Misa flips open her own device and recognizes it as some kind of PDA. It also seems to have a network for people to communicate through, so maybe Misa can find Raito through here! Misa was just going to type up a notice when Pumbaa suddenly panicked. Seeing the warthog run around in a small circle about the device makes it very hard to stifle back her laughter. Rukia trying to comfort Pumbaa makes her laugh even more.
Laughing uncontrollably by now, Misa rubs the tears from her eyes while trying to stop her laughter enough to reply to them. "Don't worry, Pumbaa-san! Your friend is not in the PDA, he is somewhere else!" Misa gives him a cheerful smile, "Misa can help you find your friend!"
no subject
He then sat and had, what would be, undoubtedly, a very strange conversation for the girls around him to hear. Lots of words and names flying around, as apparently Timon didn't remember certain people Pumbaa did, and was leaving the poor warthog very confused. Finally it seemed Timon had finished "talking" for now, leaving Pumbaa very frustrated.
How could Timon have forgotten some of their friends, yet knew others, much less forget Pride Rock, yet know the Pridelands? Nothing made sense. And to top it all off, Timon had given him no HINT where to find him.
"Oooohhhhh .. Timon wasn't very helpful. He didn't even say where he IS!" the warthog bemoaned, "I guess I'll just have to wait till he does."
He then looked up to Rukia and Misa, with a kind smile. He was really relieved that they seemed to be quite nice, despite that they were such strange creatures to him. "So ... you'd really help me find my buddy, Timon, Miss...uh, Misa?" he asked politely, though it took him a moment to remember what she'd said her name was. Her offer before his chat with Timon had been remembered.
no subject
Blinking at the strange conversation, Rukia couldn't help but be a little curious. "Where are you really from, Pumbaa? And what does this friend of yours look like? Was he a talking animal too? Now that would be rather interesting... with any luck, there might be talking rabbits, too.
But first things first. Her objective was not forgotten, and to top it all off, she thought she sensed hints of familiar reiatsu here and there, a little too faint to be truly detected, but it was there nonetheless. Did any of the other shinigami end up here, as well?
no subject
Still with a frown on her face, Misa turns to Rukia when she spoke. At the phrase 'talking animal', Misa wonders if she should be more surprised about a speaking warthog than she currently is, but figures that freaking out might not be the best solution. Besides, this might just be a dream! Even though Pumbaa's smell is rather too real for it to be a dream.
no subject
At this point Pumbaa lifted his hoof indicating Timon's height, then contiuned his description. "He's kinda ... a pale brownish-whiteish .. colour. Uhhh .. he has black ears and orange fur on his head and a black nose. OH! And a tail! With some brown stripes on his back."
Finishing his description of Timon, he looked up to Misa, with a caring look on his face, "Aww .. gee... I'll help ya look for him, Miss Misa!"
Yeah, Pumbaa was a little smelly, but it was actually dying off, for now at anyrate.
no subject
"Well, we can help you find him as well," Rukia offered, speaking to Misa. She probably knew how missing someone felt; at least a little, and Misa seemed like such a nice girl, so it wouldn't hurt to help her find someone, right?
Rukia frowned, quite mystified at Pumbaa's avid description of his companion. How odd, really. And what was a meerkat? Was that some form of a...cat, or something? If it was, then humans had really odd ways of naming animals.
"Well, we can actually go and look for both of them," she spoke at length, watching as her butterfly fluttered almost impatiently around them.
no subject
"Let's go then, everyone~" She chirps out before hopping along to lead the group. Misa thinks that Rukia's butterfly is very pretty-looking, but butterflies look exactly like a bug when up close so she tries to keep away from it while admiring it from afar. Rukia seems to know what she is doing, so Misa will probably find Raito really quickly! Oh, how she misses him!
no subject
Finding Timon excited him no end, and he was quite pleased to not be alone now. He wasn't sure what to make of his new companions in terms of how they looked and spoke, but they were nice and he liked them, so that was good enough for for him!
He pranced after Misa, pausing after a moment as a thought suddenly hit him a clueless expression forming on his face, as he lifted a hoof to his chin in thought.
"Uhhh... which way do we go?"
no subject
Nodding over at Pumbaa, who seemed immensely excited at the prospect of seeing his friend again - Timon, was it? - she couldn't help but smile as well, even though her thoughts were now focused more on a particular person she'd seen in the...journals.
A person that she had thought she'd killed.
Swallowing the lump in her throat as a strange mix of emotions swirled within her, both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time, she was jolted out of her thoughts just in time to hear Pumbaa voice his next question.
.....Good point. Where were they going to start?
The butterfly, apparently already quite restless, began to flutter off, moving straight ahead, as if it knew where, exactly, they should go.
"We'll follow the butterfly," Rukia offered, her smile just a little strained.
no subject
Pumbaa's question stops her hopping around for a moment as she mimicks the warthog again in putting a finger on her chin. "Mmm~ Misa didn't think of that..." Where would Raito be if he were in a place like this? Misa cannot think of anything.
At Rukia's suggestion, she jumps up in glee again. "Alright! Butterfly~ butterfly~ let's go butterfly~!" She chants cheerfully while skipping behind the pretty butterfly.
no subject
It was a rather strange butterfly however. Pumbaa never had seen a black butterfly like that. He wondered briefly how it might taste, but let it go since it seemed to be Rukia's butterfly. As much as he enjoyed bugs, he wouldn't go tasting someone else's friend. So... The butterfly could lead them? He wasn't quite sure how that would work, but he was willing to go with it, since it seemed Rukia was quite sure about her suggestion.
"Okay!" he responded, returning to his cheerful grin.
((OOC: lol XD So what shall we do with our strange trio? :D ))
no subject
Her eyes distant and faraway as she moved along quietly, Rukia wondered if this really was a place for the dead, or if this was just a dream, and she would probably wake up from it sometime soon.
[[Maybe Rukia can find Timon first, then Raito, then on to Kaien or something? :3]]
no subject
personwarthog, so Misa is sure that the journey will be very fun indeed! She thinks that nice people are more fun than mean people; that is also why she wants to have a world filled with only nice people, and warthogs! Misa doesn't mind Pumbaa's smell so much anymore, because he is so nice~Misa doesn't know much about Rukia yet, since she has been so quiet, but Misa thinks that she must be nice too. She seems smart as well, although not as smart as Raito of course, but no one is as smart as Raito. Turning to Rukia, Misa gives her a smile since the other girl seems a little down. Once they find Raito, he will know how to cheer Rukia up; as long as they find Raito, everything will be alright!
[ooc: Okay! And we're closing the thread here 'kay, Qingchan? I talked to Jen already~]
