Rude Awakenings [Completed]
Character(s): Kovu, Jing, and other people who might join
Content: After spending the night at Actua Are, Kovu and Jing are faced with an unexpected new problem
Setting: The Actua Are near Paixao Central Station (J7)
Time: Morning
Warnings: Nobodies don't know to let sleepingdogs lions lie!
Five more minutes of sleep would be nice, Kovu mused, putting a paw over his eyes to block out the offending sunshine shining through the window of the room he and Jing had gotten for the night. The lion had to admit, Jing's idea had turned out to be a pretty good one. True, they hadn't yet met up with Kiara, and that was a little disappointing, but he'd never slept anywhere nearly as comfortable as the bed he had spent the night sleeping on. It was so much softer than the ground, and even though Kovu had no trouble sleeping on hard ground, he wasn't about to complain. He really didn't feel like getting up yet, even if it was morning. It wasn't like he really ~had~ to move just yet, either.
At least, that's what he thought until a loud crashing sound from somewhere else in the hotel rudely interrupted his attempts to hang onto the last vestiges of sleep. Jolted to full consciousness, he lifted his head up and stared at the door in puzzlement. The crash was quickly followed by a chorus of screams and shrieks, and the lion jumped off the bed, glancing around to see if Jing was up and about yet. Something was up, and Kovu was pretty sure that it wasn't anything good. The two of them might just have to fight or make a break for it.

Jing instantly found his attention averted to the door, gray eyes narrowed upon it as he got up. His left hand skimming over the sleeve of his right arm before looking towards Kovu. While he figured most creatures couldn’t sleep through a noise such as that, it was possible that maybe the lion might have. Luckily for him, Kovu was fully alert. Which was a good thing because if the screams and shrieks were any indicator of what was going on outside, they'd be both best on their guard.
“Seems like we got caught by one of those unpleasant surprises.” He noted with a small bit of sarcasm as his eyes averted back towards the door. The switchblade on his right arm now released in a precautionary measure.

"Maybe it's time for us to leave?" he suggested, not really wanting to be caught in a confined area if some kind of danger was approaching. Depending on what it was, the two of them might be able to handle it, but if it was something extremely bad...
no subject
Regardless of whether it was something they could handle or not, it was safer to run than to be caught. Many years of experience had taught him this well, and he wasn’t about to abandon the lessons he learned so early in life.
The other nodded in regards to Kovu’s suggestion. It was definitely time to get out of here. Jing moved quickly as he made his way to the other side of the room. His hands pushing a window panel upward as soon as he reached the window.
“Go out through here,” He motioned towards the window as he secured the panel’s position, revealing another exit. “I’ll follow.”

Then, as sounds of fighting got closer, he lept through the window into the open space outside. He just hoped they could get away again. He didn't think he and Jing had anything to do with whatever was going on, so maybe no one would come after them... And at the moment, he didn't have any real reason to want to get involved in someone else's fight.

As soon as the exit was free, Jing jumped through it. It was in the nick of time as, moments after he landed on the other side, it seemed as though whatever it was attempted to break into the room. There was no time to think about luck though, as the boy had the feeling they’d be caught if they stayed anywhere near the hotel.
With a quick motion of his hand, he started running down the street in hopes they would outrun their pursuers. His weapon was ready, however, incase they caught up.

Of course, that didn't stop him from wondering if someone out there might have gotten caught up in something bad by accident and could have used his help.
That particular thought was cut short as the two of them continued on down the street. Unlike the last few days, over which Kovu had noticed a distinct lack of most animal life, there seemed to be a number of bizarre creatures out and about. "Um... What the heck are those?"
no subject
As the two were running, Jing noticed that it was not just Actua Are that was under attack, but other buildings as well. White creatures seeming to swirl in and out of buildings and houses as screams came from them.
“I’ve never seen anything like them before but from what I can tell… they’re probably the ones that we’re trying to run from.” The boy quickly deducted whatever these things were, they were the cause of the chaos. They didn’t seem like they were going to let the two go either, though if their attention was averted towards them. One or two seemed to have caught on to their running, and Jing knew that if they didn’t run fast enough or find shelter, they’d probably be caught in a battle.

He just wondered if the two of them would be able to hold their ground against their pursuers, if it came to violence. Kovu was no slouch at fighting, and he was fairly sure he could hold his own against one or two of the creatures. But there definitely weren't just one or two of them, and he wasn't stupid enough to take on an army of the things if he could help it!

The problem? There were lots more than just a few of them.
There was probably a whole army of them, but Jing hadn’t exactly spent the entire time counting. Instead, he had been trying to find a place to hide within. There was a general lack of success in this though, as they ran passed closed houses. That is, until a shabby looking shop came into his line of vision. It may not have been a huge base or anything, but it certainly seemed like a good hiding place for the time being.
“Come on!” He exclaimed, quickly pointing towards the small building as he ran towards it. Moments later he found himself at the entrance, opening the door as quickly as he could for Kovu and himself.

"Look out, here they come!" he called out a warning to Jing, hoping that the other could get the door closed before they came under attack.

As soon as he closed the door, he both heard and felt one of the creatures made a head-on collision with the door. Luckily for both Jing and Kovu, the door didn’t break. Although it did cause Jing to stumble a bit due to the impact.
He found himself grimacing slightly as he turned back to the door. Despite whatever was outside was clearly after them, he still felt himself feeling a little sympathetic for the creature.
After all, a collision like that had to hurt.
Of course, worrying for the other creature's health wasn't their top priority. And thus he quickly got over it as he looked around.
"They're probably going to break in within a minute or two unless we barricade the door." Unless, of course, they ran away but for some reason Jing doubted that as he searched around for objects to block the door with.

Despite his comment, though, the lion wasn't entirely sure he wanted to try to take down one of the creatures. For one thing, with the way they were attacking, he had to wonder if they were carnivorous, and if they were, they probably weren't very good for eating. There was also the possibility that more than one would get in if they tried something like that, and he didn't want to get overwhelmed by a flood of whatever it was those ugly things were.
Trying to help out, he started looking around for something to block the door with when something else caught his gaze. "Hey, can't they get in through one of those, like we got out of the other place?" he asked, nodding his head towards one of the store's windows.

There was no denying that fighting one of them might be a fun ordeal but in this situation it was best not to. With so many of them around the area of Paixao, Jing was definitely not going to risk anything like that. It was best for now to fight as few of them as they could. Thus it was essential to keep the creatures out of the shop, at least while Jing and Kovu were in it. The open windows, however, weren’t helping the dilemma at all.
What was interesting, though was that the creatures appeared to want to get through the door rather than the windows. Though Jing could see why as he looked at the windows. For most of them seemed to be closed from the inside, and the one that was open was at the other side of the shop. While this was another streak of luck, it was only partly so. If the creatures decided to stop attempting to get into the door and find alternative routes, they’d find one quickly.
“They seem pretty intent on the door.” Jing said, his eyes on the open window, “However, they’ll probably find that entrance in a few moments unless we close it.”
His attention turned back towards the door as the attempts to get within continued. “We’ll probably either have to fight them or run again to a safer place, regardless. So I’m not sure if barricading is the best idea.”

Jing had a point though, even if Kovu didn't like it. Some 'future king' he was turning out to be. Of course, if he actually had a pride, things might have been different. That thought was a bit of a comfort at least. Kovu had the brief image of leading a dozen lionesses out to tear the pesky creatures to shreds... Now ~that~ would have been satisfying. Really, it was all just a matter of numbers. "We need to find somebody else to help us fight these things," he suggested. "It's no use fighting them by ourselves when they outnumber us... We need some backup."

As much as he would like to ‘order a Kir Royale’ right now, or at least have the other with him – he had to think in the present. The present situation currently consisting of a few options, including the one Kovu suggested. While Kovu’s plan of action was quite a good idea, the fact was that there didn’t seem to be anyone else around. Still, it was better than being run into a corner or facing off here.
“True,” Jing nodded, glancing between the door and the window. They really didn’t have enough time to truly discuss this out, especially with the creatures being extremely stubborn. “It’d be best to attempt to avoid them until we find others rather than stand our ground here, though.”
As he spoke, he made his way towards the open window – making sure no more time was wasted simply on talking without action. “As much as you’re not keen on the idea of running, we’re probably going to have to seek out help ourselves rather than waiting.” With this, he poked his head through the window, glancing quickly to make sure the coast was clear before hopping onto the other side.
“Seems like we can make it through the back road without getting caught if we hurry up.”

The back street did seem unguarded, at least. Kovu didn't know how long that would last, but he would take what he could get. He just hoped Jing had at least some idea about their next destination. He still wasn't familiar enough with the city to have any real idea where they were going.
