Figures! [Complete]
Character(s): Kairi, Lucifer, Sora, Riku
Content: Kairi's trying to find a safe place. Or at least a safe person...
Setting: In the Nifnif-area.
Time: Late afternoon
Warnings: -
It scared her that things just couldn't ever settle down. It scared her that no one seemed to ever be safe. But these creatures that were suddenly filing into streets didn't seem bent on sucking up this world into darkness.
Kairi knew they weren't Heartless. She had seen plenty of Heartless - by far not as many as Sora, but she had her handful. These things didn't fit the part. And so... she wasn't sure how to react.
Which wasn't all true either. Her reaction after getting over the stunned one was to run. Hide. Find safety. Shelter. Something to get her away from these things!
At least they didn't seem to be picking out specific targets; that made her feel a bit more secure. Hopefully these enemies knew nothing of the Princesses of Heart or Kingdom Hearts or anything like that that could pull her into danger. And hopefully that also kept her two friends safe, too.
Kairi's hands held tightly to her journal. She looked around her, eyes scanning over her surroundings, taking in quick clips of scenery to try and find one place - any place - that she could stay.
But she couldn't even finish doing that! Everything just was spinning out around her and she bolted, on the run down the street, no longer paying attention to things like scenery. She... ... she needed help!

So far the day had brought white things. They weren't exactly the souls of the damned, or an army of Lilim, but they were certainly vexing. He had at first thought them to be about as annoying as ugly lawn gnomes. His opinion quickly elevated when they attacked. (Which, he had been mildly amused by their lack of tactics and overall lack of power as they headed towards him and he merely had to... well, he was the Lightbringer for a reason).
A young running girl caught his eye. He supposed, if he were her, he might he running around looking for a way to escape the white attackers as well. Hm. Glad he wasn't her, then.

On a normal basis, Kairi could tell the mood of other's. This wasn't quite a normal basis and so when she saw this man as she ran passed, she quickly stumbled as she skidded to a stop and turned towards him. Why wasn't he running? Or in panic? Or fighting? "How can you just be standing there?" she called out to him and then her eyes went wide. "Can't you do anything about these?! Please!"
no subject
"I find it quite easy to 'just' stand here," Lucifer comment dryly. When a group of the creatures raised their heads and headed towards him he gave them a condescending look. They seemed to be mindless, which meant annihilation was just a better tactic. "Begone, pests."
He was the Lightbringer for a reason. The white attackers were engulfed in flame, and he made sure it was hot enough to melt iron before he let them fade. Then he turned his gaze to Kairi, almost expectant.

Sora didn't know what they were... But just because he didn't know, didn't mean they were unbeatable.
She stared back at the man and smiled, just a bit. Just a sign that the time of panic was fading. What, really, did running around screaming ever do for anyone, anyway?
"Thank you."
no subject
"...you're welcome," he replied, dryly. Why was she smiling at him? It wasn't as if he had gone out of his way to defend her. The things would have bothered him had he not gotten to them first. This situation was annoying, and the comment Death had made... that he'd find it nostalgic. As if these things were anything like the souls of the damned. Hardly.

Her 'escorts' were on their way, apparently. She knew Sora wouldn't leave her hanging. And in the time that it seemed she was safe, even if this man walked off on her, she quickly checked her journal, nodded, and looked over to him. "My friend Riku says they're called Nobodies." She tucked the journal back away. She needed to stay in the Niflheim area. But she didn't exactly trust being alone... "I don't suppose you would let me walk with you?" She didn't ask if he minded. Of course he would mind. She's find a way though.
Sora and Riku were coming, after all.
no subject
"...if you wish to walk with me."
He wasn't cold and uncaring so much as plainly uncaring. She wouldn't hinder him much. If anything it might prove useful since she had mentioned that one of her friends knew what these Nobodies were. "...you mentioned that your friend knew what these Nobodies are?"
By default, he supposed, he was protecting her.
no subject
So Kairi would walk with him.
"Oh yes... I don't know how he knows, and he seemed in a rush, so I don't have much more information other than that they're called Nobodies. Still, it's something. It could help in the long run." Anything could help.

As he paused in the middle of an intersection, Sora looked left and right for any sign of his friend. There! He spotted a flash of reddish hair and immediately knew it was her. "Kairi!!" he yelled, bolting down the street towards her. Finally! Now he and Riku could get her out of this place and somewhere safe!

He nearly ran into Sora when he paused, but slowed enough to skid to a stop and only partially bump chest-to-back. Stepping around him, he turned his head away to look in another direction and force himself to calm, the orange fading just in time for him to look at Sora as he yelled Kairi's name.
And there she was. Riku didn't move for a moment, unsure of how Kairi would react to seeing him again. He'd done a lot of shit when they were last together, and he wasn't sure about what she'd thought of him. But after a moment of standing there, he stuck a hand in his pocket and casually followed after Sora, the other hand holding his Keyblade as he prepared to fend off any Nobodies that might want to attack them spontaneously. "Long time no see, Kairi."

Leaving seemed like a good option, as the girl had her friends and all of that. But there was the information that the children might bring (out of the mouths of babes, was it?) something like that. He didn't have anything better to do with his time, so he may as well linger.
no subject
And when she heard an odd sound of energy she jumped and tensed, thinking it might be more Nobodies coming to attack her from behind. It wasn't very loud, or even immediately close, but she still heard it - and then she heard his voice, her mind reeled, calculated, tried to figure if it was really hearing -
Sora! She spun around, her eyes as wide as they had been when she remembered his name on the island and Selphie had been so confused... There he was... running for her, looking strange with new clothes and a bit older, but still radient with his youth. Kairi must have looked strange herself; her outfit was indeed just as different as his from way back when. ... Had it only been a year?
"Sora!!" she yelled out when she finally could get around the shock of seeing him.
... seeing ... them ... - Riku stepped out of the odd energy a bit after Sora. Her mouth fell open. Do people really grow up when they're apart? It didn't seem fair! They were supposed to have grown up together... and then the Heartless divided them!
Kairi bolted forward, forgetting about Lucifer - could anyone blame her? - and running towards the two. "Sora! Riku!" She had made it to Sora first, but with her arms spread wide, she was able to hook one around his neck and then drag him a bit to the side so that she could get her other arm around Riku's neck, pulling them towards her in a tight group-hug. "I've missed you both so much!"
no subject
"You're not hurt, are you?" he asked.
no subject
He had taken notice of Kairi's change once they'd seen her, and now it aws even more obvious. She was a little taller, and it seemed about Sora's height almost. He was still the tallest, and probably the more mature out of them as always, but... The most troubled. "Yeah, are you okay?" Riku pulled back a little now, turquoise-blue eyes examining her closely to inspect and see any form of damage.
no subject
Kairi was so happy and yet sad at the same time. She hated that sliver of sadness; it made her squeeze the two tighter before pulling back, her arms down at her sides. "Now." She sniffed and wiped the tears out of her eyes and stared at them. "What took you boys so long? Sheesh! You shouldn't keep a girl waiting!" And it wasn't Paixao she was referring to - it was in general. Though she couldn't be mad. At either of them. But she really couldn't express how much she missed them. She had to restrain herself from launching at them and dragging them into another hug.
no subject
But anyway. That wasn't important. What was important was getting Kairi... wait a minute. Sora blinked and looked Kairi up and down, then chuckled. "Hey, I know you think I'm cool and all, but don't you think dressing like me is a little much?" he joked. Though his cheerfulness seemed inappropriate for the situation, Sora didn't consciously consider it. Now that he was with his friends again, he couldn't help but relax. After all, they could do anything as long as they were together!
no subject
He dismissed Kairi's wardrobe easily, since neither of them had ever dressed similarly to him even at childhood to their near adulthood. "We should probably move, before the Nobodies decide they like the idea of attacking us." Riku pressed, suddenly, summoning his Keyblade in swirling darkness again and turning to examine a nearby crowd of them. "As glad as I am to be with both of you, this isn't safe."
no subject
He could have burned the nearby Nobodies to a crisp. Or, less than a crisp, had he been so inclined. However, like in all things, Lucifer was not one to go showing off. His supremacy was already established, no need to try and primp in front of mere children. Besides, it would be interesting to see if the key looking weapon would actually do anything (for all its size, shape and general unwieldy appearance).
no subject
Oh brother. Leave it to Sora to be sleeping on a job, again. It really made Kairi remember back to the old days on the island and she couldn't help but chuckle a little. And then at his comment she looked over herself then crossed her arms in a 'hmph' sort of gesture and looked back at him. "You can blame that on Paixao! I came here and my clothes changed. But maybe I could just blame it on you anyway," she joked right back at him, a bit more on the playful-side.
She blinked at Riku; tried not to eep at the summoned keyblade and then she looked away from their little group with a small nod. "That's right... this place is kind of a mess... and I've barely even been here for long." She edged almost between the two to use them as shields. She wanted to go out and say "Go get 'em boys!" but managed to restrain herself and hang back. Even if it wasn't exactly safe, she was sure she would be enough with them.

More memories, and Riku lifted up his hand to his temple to rub at it a little. The Nobodies were of an interesting kind... especially the Organization one's. For now, however, his attention was on the lesser one's that weren't in a human's body. He calmly lifted his keyblade, tilting his head to get silvery white hair from his eyes as he considered what his plan might actually be. They should probably get back to the hotel, but he had to conserve a bit of his energy... unless there was a threat to Sora and Kairi, he didn't feel the urge to use the portals.

"...you're welcome, she's quite the young lady," Lucifer nodded to Sora, deciding to ignore the other boy. He wasn't a threat, even though he was certainly interesting. "...I believe I will make my own way, I should check up on an acquaintance." Duma, the angel, perhaps. Or even that small loud 'Dib'.
no subject
He could definately take care of himself, Riku had that down. "I hope your friends... er... acquaintances are safe. Good luck."
no subject
With that business taken care of, he turned and faced Kairi and Riku. "Kairi, stay close to us, okay?" he said, his voice taking a more serious tone. "We'll keep you safe." Looking up at Riku, Sora continued, "Riku, how do you th - whoa!" The ground suddenly heaved under Sora's feet, causing him to flail in an effort to keep his balance. Another tremor wracked the earth, more violently this time, and Sora dropped to one knee. The ground continued to shake and heave like a stormy ocean, causing the cobblestones to crack and fake trees to groan and snap from the tension. "Magic?" Sora shouted over the dull roar of the earthquake. Man, of all the things to happen next!
no subject
He seemed like he was about to say something after Sora did to Kairi, and perhaps pause to listen to Sora as he said his name, however there was the conflict of his feet moving without him wanting them to as the earth began to shake. He turned his Keyblade and planted the end into the ground, holding onto it with one hand before reaching over and taking hold of Kairi's upper arm, just in case. "Don't know," was his response to Sora, and he narrowed his eyes a little. "It might be a result of the Organization..."
no subject
Kairi nodded to them. She knew better than to slip away from them when there was danger about. But the sort of danger she was expecting - and even use to expecting - were Heartless and now Nobodies and whatnot. She hadn't even remotely been ready for the ground to almost come alive beneath her and send her stumbling.
A small blush creeped over her cheeks when Riku grabbed for her, but she was grateful that he had. She reached out towards him to steady herself even more and then looked towards them worriedly. "The Organization?" she eeped. When things settled down again they really needed to have a sit-down at some cafe and they needed to fill her in on everything!
At least they weren't in a building - she figured that would probably be even worse and that's the last thing they needed... "Well, I hope it stops soon!"

No one ever said that Sora was smart when it came to earthquakes.

Although still like the leader, Riku had fallen from the thought that his ideas were still ever perfect.
no subject
Sora had a point, even if it wasn't a completely intelligent one. Having them all die by being crushed by something didn't seem fair as a way they - at least Sora and Riku - went down after everything!

Okay, let's try again.
This time, Sora made it a few steps before he was forced to stop and regain his footing. It wasn't much, but it was progress. He repeated the process: take a few shaky steps, stop, step, stop, step, stop.
It was kind of like trying to walk on a trampoline when other people were bouncing on it, he thought. When he looked at it that way, it was actually kind of fun.
Though he decided it was best not to share his thoughts with his companions.
