Into the unknown [Active]

Character: Raven & Kanda Yuu
Content: Raven attempts to leave the city through the Joutenheim gate, but is unable to and goes with plan B. Kanda ends up seeing her though, and invites himself along.
Setting: In front the Joutenheim Gate
Time: Late morning
Warnings: N/A

Just like she said she would, it was time for Raven to actually see how far she could go while outside of the domes. Searching inside had yielded absolutely nothing as far as information went, which was what she and everybody else who had been taken away from their respective worlds needed right now.

Leaving her rented apartment, Raven headed for the nearest gate, which was Joutenheim. Ironically, that was the also the same gate she walked through when first arriving. Once there, she was greeted with the familiar sight of blonde-haired men and women writing down their names and being handed their journals before passing through into the city. Also recognizable was the man in charge of making sure that everything went smoothly. Well, she assumed it was the same guy. One couldn’t really tell who was who when everybody virtually looked the same.

Unneeded reminiscing aside, Raven headed into the gate, not stopping for anything. The man in charge was quick to notice her though.

“And where do you think you're going, little lady?” He said to her, gently placing an arm on her shoulder.

Raven quirked an eyebrow and gave him a stare that suggested that he remove his hand from where it was, which he did. “Outside, and don’t ever call me that again.”

“O-Outside?" His eyes widened slightly, seemingly ignoring the threat Raven had just directed at him. “Did you forget something…?”

“No.”

“Then why do you want to go?”

“Because.”

“Because what?”

“I feel like it.” Not waiting for a response, Raven started to move, but the man put himself in front of her and the gate’s exit.

“S-Sorry” He shook his head. “I can’t let you through once you come in through these gates.”

“Why not?” She asked, getting more annoyed with how stubborn and annoying he was being.

“Those are the rules.”

“Who’s rules?”

“Errr… I…” He seemed to be getting increasingly nervous the more Raven expressed her intentions of leaving. “Please, just go back, you’re distracting me.” Not wanting to be around her anymore, the man left and went back to attend the line and take care of the new arrivals.

“Rules huh…”With a scowl on her face, Raven left the gate and walked along the inner wall of the dome. That didn’t go quite as well as she thought it would. But it was alright. After all, there was more than one way to leave this city… Once far enough, she looked around, making sure that nobody was watching. Placing a hand on the wall, Raven concentrated her powers. A black aura emanated from her hand and grew along the wall, forming a large circular shape.

“Rule overridden.” She said, heading towards the ‘portal’ that had been made…

((OoC: I'm so sorry. @w@ I've had my hands full lately, with school starting and marching band kicking off.))

"I didn't know they had rules in this place."

Kanda glanced past Raven, towards her portal, from where he stood a few yards behind her. He'd never seen something quite like that, though he'd seen Komui's science branch working on something similar. However, he knew that there couldn't be anything remotely technological about what she was doing. It was disturbingly reminiscent of the Earl's techniques, but he pushed that thought aside. There was nothing like that in Paixao.

"Not to mention all the gypsies," he continued, taking a few steps towards her. Instead of the exorcist's coat that he'd worn last time they'd met, Kanda wore a simple button-down shirt and slacks with his sword slung on his back. From his wrist hung a simple cord bracelet, adorned with ornate silver buttons.

Though Raven had checked to see if anybody was present, Kanda had only just arrived. He had a tendency show up at opportune moments. Though he'd only come down to Joutenheim to have a look at the gate through which he'd come, it had only been a vague notion that Raven might use the very same gate to exit. Not that it mattered, if exit was permitted, because then Kanda could just leave on his own. Still, apparently they weren't allowed to leave through the gates, which wasn't all that surprising. There'd be fewer people stuck in the city if exit was allowed.

But apparently for Raven, that wasn't a problem.

"That'll take you outside of the dome?" he asked, gesturing in the direction of the portal she'd just made.

((OoC: Not really because it's important, but just as a tribute to Linali-mun. xD))

"I didn't ask if if you wanted anybody with you," Kanda replied, not faltering despite Raven's blatant refusal. The opinions of others were rarely factored into his decisions; it was more trouble than it was worth. Especially with somebody like Raven. "I asked if that thing would take you outside."

He took a few more steps towards her, clearly conveying that he didn't intend to turn around and go back to his hotel. But he'd need her to give some form of grudging consent, because Kanda wasn't stupid enough to barge through a foreign portal-like gate without knowing how it was made and how much Raven could control it.

"And since you've said it does, there's nothing more to argue about," he said. "I'm going outside, whether you want me to or not."

"I'll pass," Kanda said, snorting to himself. Did Raven honestly expect him to "scream if he heard anything?" Likely not, since the two of them had met before. But even if she did expect such, he wasn't going to indulge her in the slightest. Still, Kanda was fairly certain that she'd be able to cope with the loss.

He adjusted Mugen's strap on his back, before taking a few more steps and walking straight into the portal. As soon as he hit the boundary between the city air and the dark portal, a chill shot right down his spine and nearly made him shiver. Nearly.

Regardless, he didn't falter in his stride, only paused for a brief moment to catch his bearings when his foot touched down on solid grass. Real grass. Kanda wondered at that for a moment; he'd almost forgotten that normal plant life existed outside of the city. But before he could get distracted, he took a few more steps away from the portal and turned to look behind him at the dome.

They looked different from outside, especially since one couldn't tell that they were the source of all the weather inside the city. If Kanda were more brash, it'd be horribly tempting to just strike the dome to see what would happen. But, people more reckless than him had probably tried to do so before, and obviously it hadn't done any good.

Exhaling as the coldness from the portal eased away, Kanda shifted his weight onto his other foot and waited for Raven to appear.

Kanda furrowed his brows, taking a look around. He could see Joutenheim from here, which made it a little easier. When he first arrived, he'd simply followed the river nearby until he'd located the gate. As far as he'd been able to tell, there wasn't very much in that direction. But if there was a river, it would have to join with another, larger river or empty into the ocean at some point.

There was always the possibility of Paixao being situated on an island mass, but it was hard to tell at this point. He could follow the river for days and get nowhere. And even if he moved faster, he couldn't keep up that pace forever like Linali could. If he were to be attacked and caught off-guard, he'd be too far from the city for much to be done. The thought of being incapable of defending himself in a foreign land did not sit well with the Japanese exorcist.

And, though Raven had proven herself to have her fair share of tricks, Kanda couldn't say that he trusted her with his life.

For now, it'd be better to get a more general view of the terrain, and branch out later. Finding some higher ground would be a good idea too.

"I'm having a look around, not running a marathon," Kanda stated blandly, shrugging. It wasn't meant to be particularly biting, but that was just the way it came out and he didn't care enough to correct himself. "I'm going this way--" (he gestured) "--and you can come if you'd like. It doesn't matter to me."
