Say it ain't so! [SOLO/COMPLETED]
Character(s): THE NEW RIKU, OMG.
Content: Riku wakes up outside the domes and is an idiot, yep.
Setting: Outside the Niflheim gate.
Time: Sunday morning-ish.
Warnings: Mild language? I couldn't help myself. :[
Perhaps there was a reason why old coots weren't usually allowed to operate complex machines; they got themselves BLOWN UP. Themselves, and everyone around them.
It was not pleasant, as he had just recently discovered from experience.
At the moment, everything was sore. He ached from the force of the explosion, from both hitting the ground and then skidding across it. His eyes hurt, all in thanks to the blindingly white flash of light he had not expected to see after turning around, as did his head. However, none of that was his main concern. Not after his mind had stopped whirling. No, now his priorities were back in order.
Sora and Kairi... they were there too. Riku quickly pushed himself up on unsteady arms, the palms of his gloved hands grinding into the dirt below as they shook beneath his weight-- wait. Dirt? Glanced down to the ground, brows furrowing a bit in confusion. There was no dirt on the balcony...
The teen repositioned himself into a crouch, taking an almost frantic look around. There was nothing familiar in sight. No Sora, no Kairi, no Mickey, no castle, no... nothing. It wasn't even night anymore. He was in an entirely different place! A completely new one, at that; of all the worlds he had traveled through, not once did he ever come across such a large group of.. what were those, domes?
Hesitantly, Riku rose to his feet, the motion accompanied by the sound of shifting gravel and creaking leather. Absently, he brushed himself off, staring dumbfoundedly at the long line of people assembled a few dozen feet away. Apparently (as he discovered by visually tracing up the line) they were all waiting to go inside some massive gate made of ice.
What the hell?
Logic decided to kick in.
He couldn't have been dreaming... for one, everything felt too real, and two, he hadn't been sleeping in the first place. Unconscious, perhaps? A definite possibility. There was no telling how hard he hit the ground after that explosion-- ..oh, shit. The explosion. The one he had been extremely close to. Maybe it killed him..? It could have happened. Unconscious people didn't experience things like this, did they? And there were the stories, too.. about death. How, after people died, they would end up standing in a line, waiting to pass through gates.
Alarmed, one of Riku's hands flew up to his face, only to come into contact with a blindfold that he hadn't realized was there. Although the material didn't look it, it was see-through, and even so, he had grown so used to it that he easily forgot its presence. But, wait. If he could actually feel the blindfold, then that meant... A quick check over himself confirmed that, yes, he was back to his original form. Unfortunately, this fact was not so comforting to the currently dumbstruck Riku. Only one thought popped up in his head:
Oh, SHIT.
He really was dead.
