Onward, to the Café! [Completed, Solo]
Character(s): Nill, NPC
Content: Aided by a resident Paixaonese businessman, Nill is led into the city.
Setting: By Muspelheim Gate [O3]
Time: Afternoon
Warnings: None
At the end of Muspelheim gate's line stood Nill. Together with a kind pedestrian, she slowly but surely advanced forward toward a cylinder booth painted in orange.
The man next to her, Peter, moved passively along the line. Clearly, this procedure was normal to him, but to the winged-girl--to Nill, this was tremendously new-fangled. Her large deep-blue eyes absorbed the intricacies of the fiery gate before--no, above her. It was so tall--taller than the church's gates! And the carefully-sculpted weaving flames of gold and red! How majestic and powerful they seemed. It was just cement, yet the element looked as if it was about to engulf the very people closest to it.
Impulsively, Nill clutched Peter's sleeve, catching his attention. The two faced each other, blinking.
"Hehe, are you scared?" The young man asked, amused.
Nill blushed. She let go of his coat and looked down repentfully.
Chuckling, Peter reassured her that everything was fine. Accepting the comfort, she nodded. Finally, they reached the booth.
"Name, please," the robotic voice echoed from within. Nill stared quizzicically at the object. Pamphlets of all sizes were hung in racks attached to the booth, and there was a single slit in the middle of it. Nill was able to see a light spark on and off when whatever was in there spoke.
The command reiterated. "Name, please." Nill frantically sought Peter's guidance.
"Say your name," he whispered.
Okay, okay..this isn't hard! Well...actually... the long-haired girl was given an urging nudge.
"N....Nill!" she sputtered, eyes shut tightly in effort.
"Thank you, Nill. Here is your journal and a brochure. Welcome to Paixao! .....NEXT!"
As soon as a booklet and a flat, rectangular object popped out at Nill, she caught it and was swept away by...what, she could not tell. The important thing is that she was at last inside Paixao. She spun around to find Peter gone.
"....!?"
"I'm right here!" he called. "I had to pick this up. Sorry!" he explained, holding out an envelope. Relief washed over Nill. For a second there, I thought he really left me...
Taking his coat off (the weather becoming warmer within the dome), Peter inhaled filtered air. "Hmm, nice weather today. Right then, where should I take you to first? Are you hungry?"
"...." Nill didn't think about it until now. Her stomach, was, in fact, empty. She craved a beverage above anything else. The girl grinned sheepishly.
"Haha, no need to be shy. It's only necessary for a gentleman to treat a young lady like yourself to tea! Come, I'll take you to the café." He held out a welcoming hand.
Even with those words, Nill was nevertheless embarassed. It was just so awkward to be receiving such courtesy. Grinning, she stepped forward and took Peter's ha--"!"
The teenager's thin fingers caught the slim silver piece before it hit the ground. Oops! That was close. She now examined the device as if it was something from another world.
"Ooh, you don't know what that is?" The copper-haired man said, nearing Nill. "That's your journal. Or diary, if you'd like to call it that. It's very useful; I'll teach you at the café. Let's go before peak hour ends! I want you to see the afternoon coffee spectacle!"
With Peter's energetic spirit, Nill didn't postpone any longer. The man in his twenties led the way towards Cafe Ersesat.
