Maybe it was a little bit ironic that Ven had come out here to be alone. It wasn't that he enjoyed being by himself - far from it - but he needed to get away for a little while. There was a lot of thinking that he had to do, and it was about time that he stopped putting it off.

At least, that's what he was trying to tell himself, while figuring out a good place to stop and eat his lunch. It just wasn't working all that well.

And maybe that's why he didn't mind it when he spotted someone, and realized that he wasn't so alone out here after all.

Yorda had been watching the sky, as had been her habit ever since the city had crumbled. She'd mostly kept to herself, though she'd helped where and when she could despite the glares. But now that the city was gone, she - and every other outsider who had previously lived in the city - had nowhere to go.

Nowhere to go but onward, that was.. But if they did manage to leave the castle, wouldn't she be sent back to the island to die? The thought of it made her shudder.

Startled, Yorda looked up at him, her eyes large and staring. "Yes," she answered after a moment, looking the boy over curiously. She had never seen him before, in the city or not. "Who are you?"

She hugged her knees to her chest, simply staring at Ventus, still unaware that staring was rather rude. Mao and Urd, at least, had never complained about it. Besides, Yorda had grown to like watching people during her time in the city, and even now, that had yet to change.

"I am Yorda," said the girl, who continued staring. She nodded, not wanting to be alone for the moment, especially considering how nervous she still was about Ansem, though he had yet to call her to him again. "I would like that," she replied, with a small attempt at a smile.

She didn't think she had seen the other before, for all her wanderings - but then, she tended to stay close to people she knew now, ever since her kidnapping. It would not stop Ansem from coming for her again, but she felt safer nonetheless.

Yorda didn't notice the silent offer Ven made, and so she simply listened to him. "I wished to think," she replied, looking back up at the sky as she answered his question. She didn't know what she was going to do, now that Paixao no longer welcomed the outsiders and people were planning on leaving the castle that had, strangely enough, become a home of sorts to her - or as close to a true home as she had ever had, anyway. It made her heart hurt, just thinking about it.

Yorda blinked at Ven for a moment before smiling gratefully and taking the half Ventus offered. "Thank you," she replied, nibbling at it. She was hungry, and food was harder to find since they'd all been kicked out of the city.

"I have been thinking of what I will do when we are gone from this place." She tried not to show how much the thought worried her; there was no need to bring worry to others, after all.

"No." The answer was immediate, and rather short; Yorda was surprised at how little she wanted to return. In truth, she saw that part of her life as over, and it was not one she wanted to go back to, even if she could. "I wish to stay here, but I no longer think it is wise." A stranger on the message board had made that offer to her, and though she had accepted at the time, she had since come to realize that it wouldn't be a good idea.

But her island was gone, and she had nowhere else to go.

"Yes," agreed Yorda, who had been filled with an ominous sense of unease ever since the floors had seemed to begin to bleed into one another. But where else could she go? She didn't want to go back to her world, as she had already told Ven, and she could not stay here. What else could she do?

"If I return to my world," said Yorda, her voice trembling, "I will die."

The glowing girl merely nodded, her eyes cast down as she avoided Ven's gaze. She did not like to worry anybody, and she didn't want pity, but it never even so much as occurred to her to lie about it. "There must be a way to prevent myself from going back," she told him, "but I have not yet found a way."

Yorda looked at Ventus, then, her eyes almost shining with newfound hope. She didn't want to die. Quite in fact, she had never wanted to die, even on the island with its walls of stone and cold steel cages and oily, malevolent shadows. But she had resigned herself to it back then, and she had been dangerously close to giving into that same despair now that she had realized she couldn't stay.

The princess could hardly stop the tremble in her voice as she timidly asked him, "Could you?"

At that, Yorda smiled. "I believe you." Even if she was still scared, there was no reason to give up hope just yet. After years of being locked away and not even so much as being allowed to walk freely on her island, she wouldn't just give up and wait to die, as she had the last time. Besides, she still had people she cared about here that she could help. Maybe there were others she could aid, as well.

Either way, Yorda wasn't gone, not yet.
