The fear of having one's heart torn away was all too common among those who still had a heart to care for such things. He'd seen it over and over when his lesser kindred slipped out of the shadows to claim what was rightfully theirs. Needless to say, while he was not truly gifted in the matter of reading people's hearts (why read what you only intended to eat), he wouldn't have been surprised in the least to hear of her fright. For now, he was content to let the silence stretch on.
