Perhaps luckily for Joshua, Yorda hadn't been looking for sympathy and thus didn't notice the boy's lack thereof. He asked, and she answered; it was the way things had always been for Yorda. It simply never occurred to her to lie, or even to beg off giving an answer. She smiled at him. "Yes," came the answer. "I enjoy living here." Others might feel trapped, but to Yorda, this place had given her something she'd never had before: the chance to live freely for the first time in her life. A moment, and she asked him, "Do you like it here?"
