Dias could have refuted Al's continuing arguments before the boy relaxed and let the subject go, but decided not to. Best to just let the matter drop - he'd never tried to talk Rena out of her gentleness, however naive, and there was no reason for him to do so with this boy. After all, there was something precious (perhaps even enviable?) about such innocence.
He hesitated at the blond's gesture to join him in line. "I'm not sure if going through that gate is the best idea," he said eventually, dubiously, eyeing the silvery construct once more. Dias was still faintly amazed ANYONE thought walking through that forbidding arch was a good idea. "Not until I know what's on this side of it, at least."
