The Players and the Played

Character(s): Suki and open
Content: Suki's intro
Setting: Vanaheim
Time: Week 19, Midday
Warnings: TBA.

By this point, Suki was used to getting shoved around and taken to different places. What she wasn't used to or expecting was to end up somewhere entirely new. And by "entirely new" she meant nowhere in the world. Granted, she hadn't been to quite as many places as her friends had been, but she'd been far enough to know these sorts of things. Whatever this place was, wherever this gate led, Suki was more than certain it was nowhere she could name. For one thing, the architecture was all wrong and for another, none of the nations' symbols were on the walls. For another, she was pretty sure that gate wouldn't keep anyone out or in, especially not a Sokka or a Suki.

Staring at it for a little bit longer, she turned to accept the offered journal... device... thing... giving her name in exchange. "Suki," she told the attendant. "Have you seen anyone named-"

"Keep moving," the attendant snapped, cutting her off. Suki's eyes narrowed in annoyance and she walked off through the gates. The city was called Paixao according to the little brochure she'd picked up. Weird. Definitely wasn't a city she'd ever heard of. The sensation was odd. She remembered the play and laughing and groaning at Sokka's bad puns, but she'd take that, living in the heart of the Fire Nation, over this any day.

Taking in the looks of everyone around, Suki didn't even hesitate before she turned to a random person nearby. "Hey, have you met a boy named Sokka?"

Vanaheim had been the last gate Riku hadn't visited. Sure enough, just like the others, baffled-looking people were being ushered in. But it was just like the other gates. Different look, but nothing else. He checked his watch under the cloth on his wrist and decided it would be more fun to eat somewhere in the area rather than raid his own pantry. He had just enough time to wonder what he wanted for lunch when someone asked him a question.

Riku blinked a second before sticking his thumb in his pocket. Doesn't matter what I do, if I go to a gate, I'm not getting away without talking to someone. "No, sorry. ...Might've seen someone by that name on the network, though." With that, he pulled out his own blue journal. "You're new, right? You get one of these?"

"You can use the journal to find your friend. Or you can write in it yourself and maybe he'll find you." Riku began to turn when she offered up another question. So much for making this quick.

"More than I want and less than I need." He leaned up against a lamppost and crossed his arms. "What do want to know?"

"Um, yeah. You can use that to communicate with." Riku raised a brow. "I'm guessing your world doesn't have anything like that."

The teen heaved a rather heavy sigh. "Fine. Follow me." If I'm giving someone the basics I'm going to have lunch, too. From where they were, it was going to be another 40 minutes walk at least before he'd get something to eat, unless they took the train elsewhere. He re-checked his watch, noting a train would be leaving soon and headed toward the nearby Vanaheim Station.

Riku grabbed a fist full of leaves as he walked and handed them to the girl. "You'll need these," he said before snatching up a bunch from a different tree and pocketing them. "There's a lot you got to know. Like no one's found a way home. At least no easy way."

"Guess I need to show you how to work it, then. And know what your culture knows so I can get you up to speed."

"In this place, money grows on trees," Riku explained simply. "Notice what they're made of? These trees are everywhere, but people here accept it as money. And no, before you ask, it doesn't make sense."

"Name's Riku," he said, giving her a hint of a half smile. "Sorry to drag you off, but if you want to know about the city, I'm grabbing some lunch." He motioned for her to follow as he stepped onto the train and took a seat.

"First things first," he said, flipping open his own blue journal and pulling out the stylus. "This place is big, so you need a map." Riku leaned over and turned the device so Siku could see. He tapped a small icon at the top of the page and a map appeared on the screen, complete with a small blinking spot. "This dot here is where I am now. Your journal'll show where you are." He circled a section of the city and the image zoomed in. "We're here in Vanaheim." He slid his stylus over the screen, which in turn slid the view of the map over. "We're going to ride the train to... Here. And not far from here..." He tapped a small spot on the map. "Is Porfavore's. Here's hoping they do takeout."
