Riku shrugged in reply to Aerith. "You know, I actually don't know either."
And then a familiar voice elicited Sora's attention and Riku's in turn. The silver-haired teen couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as Vyers pulled out the meetkat. So he did come after all. Then what was his big problem with riding in my pocket earlier?
The last time Riku had been to the Islands, though the Islands were much like what he knew, there were often doors segmenting areas he could access. It didn't mater how much more he could see, the only way to progress was using a card at a door. But this was far different. It felt more like home, which Riku knew made it all the more dangerous. But the only door he knew of on his island besides the shack was...
In the Secret Place.
"Guys, this way." He motioned before heading off towards the other side of the island with a purposeful, quick stride.
Making his way back through the shack and around the waterfall pool, Riku pulled aside familiar vegetation for the first time in well over a year. Or is it two? Beyond was a cave wall and the hint of a few experimental scratches. His eyes were wide, trying to focus after the glaring summer sun. The soft breeze that often made it's way through the cave howled its way out a small opening above like it always did. Still sounds like an animal. They entered the singular chamber, complete with a pictorial history of their childhood imaginations. He couldn't help but smile at them slightly, but turned his attention to the door on the other side.
For many years Riku had wondered about that door. He'd even gone so far as to ask his parents about it, but it instead turned out to be a life lesson. Not even parents knew everything. Unsatisfied, he could only settle with wondering about the strange Keyhole that occasionally appeared on it. As Riku slipped his fingers in between a tiny crack between stone and wood, he found himself remembering the last time he'd seen that door.
And Riku hesitated, glancing away from the world and into the wood grains of the door.
