Yay for running late [Active/Closed]

Character(s): Yuna, Belle, Beast, and Tidus
Content: Double date?? Yuna goes out to practice with her dresspheres and runs into a few friends
Setting: outside, exact location TBA
Time: Midmorning?
Warnings: None for now, but maybe Beast's temper ought to get stuck here

Yuna had intended to be up early so she could get outside to work on her dresspheres again, but she'd managed to oversleep that morning. So instead of being able to relax as she got ready, she was running around, gathering up her things as she tried not to disturb Belle. She honestly, wasn't paying much attention to how much noise she was making, though, as her entire morning would get thrown off if she didn't make it out on time, and the whole thing was reminiscent of the morning after her trip to Djose Temple as a summoner and Operation Mi'ihen. She just hoped no one would tease her about having bed hair this time around.

As it was, she barely didn't hit her intended goal. Sighing to herself, she set up camp and started to shuffle through her dresspheres. Which one would be the best option for now? With luck, she wouldn't be disturbed and she could go on training the entire day.

"If you cut me up, you know I'm expecting you to cast a few Cures on me, right?" Tidus dodged the majority of the cards, but got nicked by a few. A slight drop of blood ran down his cheek, but he didn't mind. Scars were manly. Like his father's. "Hey, I think we have guests, Yuna; shouldn't we, you know, acknowledge them and make sure they're not kept waiting?" Then again, he was never too good at this etiquette thing. Besides, the amounts of skin from Yuna he was being shown was distracting him as well.

"Oh, hey, I know you, big guy!" He nodded at Beast. "'sup?"

"I met him before...he helped me fight the shadows," Beast said to Belle. He left her other question unanswered, though the spirit of it lingered over him like a cloud. Not a dark cloud, or an unpleasant one, just enough to make him think harder about something than he ever had before. And something about the way Belle said that reminded him of a story Mrs. Potts had told him when he was young.

Then Beast gave a start as Tidus called to him. He looked like a deer in headlights, surprised and not very willing (or easy, for that matter) to move. It was also very, very strange for Beast to be approached so directly, and especially so casually. Only on very rare occasions did anyone address a prince as "hey you, big guy."

He looked at Belle, as if he was expecting her to save him from a terrible fate by somehow diverting this boy's attention.

Belle's eyes darted from Beast to Tidus to Yuna and back to Beast again. This was all happening so quickly. Beast's discomfort was palpable, so Belle gave him a quick, reassuring smile before stepping forward towards the couple. "Yuna, this is Beast. He's my dearest friend here...other than you, of course," she added warmly. "Beast, this is my roommate, Yuna."

She glanced at Tidus and curtsied slightly, a lock of hair falling from her loose ponytail and over her eyes. "You must be Tidus...Yuna has told me so much about you!"

Politely bowing to both of their new companions, Tidus gave a little sheepish grin as he scratched the back of his head. "I can assure you that most of those shenanigans are probably tall tales, Belle. You must know how imaginative Yuna is at times." Well, maybe even Tidus didn't know; it wasn't until Yuna met him that she even began questioning Yevon's teachings. But the subtle changes in her personality gave him the hint that there was far more to her than met the eye. "But yeah, this big fella and I were fighting some of those Heartless things shortly after I first arrived here in Paixao, Yuna. He's really strong! With his strength, it probably would have been twice as easy to defeat Sin and Yevon!"

For a few seconds, Beast looked positively lost. He had no idea how to meet new people. Rather, he had no idea how to meet new people without being rude. The best he could do was a sort of half-bow with his large frame; the movement was exaggerated and actually more intimidating than cordial.

In lieu of repeating the same gesture to the blond, he tried to straighten up, and hold his posture better. It worked to some extent, though without practice he looked silly, as if he were posing for a caricature.

[identity profile] beautiful-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Belle watched Beast thoughtfully as Tidus mentioned the Heartless by name. She was unsurprised to hear he could handle himself in a fight, but she was still concerned that he'd been exposed to the creatures at all. Based on what she'd both read and heard, the shadowy monsters would feed on the darkness in a person's heart...how much darkness did Beast carry inside him? She didn't need to be very insightful to know that there was probably quite a bit.

She was jolted out of her thoughts as Yuna changed her outfit. No matter how many times she saw Yuna change, Belle was always taken aback. Magic! Actually existing! Though to Yuna, it was apparently just technology, to Belle, it was as if all that fairy tales she'd read had taken form, right there in her roommate. She smiled, glancing between Yuna and Tidus, not knowing what they were referring to in their past, of course, but interested.

"Hey, you seem to have gotten into more than quite a few shenanigans yourself after I left!" Tidus teased Yuna, with a chuckle. Noticing the silence of the other pair of lovers, Tidus coughed. "The strong, silent type?" He nodded to Beast. "Kinda reminds me of Kimahri, only he isn't blue. So, do you have any hobbies, Beastie? Like, playing ball or theater?" He grinned.

The bright light hurt Beast's eyes, making him look slightly away. That light, and the way Yuna changed...brought bad memories to the surface. Beast shook his head, growling softly. He didn't want to think of those things with Belle here...she deserved to have him in a better mood.

But he still bared his fangs when Tidus spoke. Another growl, louder than the first, weighted the aggression. Beast's volatile temper was on edge. He was in such an unfamiliar situation, thinking about the most horrible moment of his life, and now this boy was making him sound like he was a pet!

[identity profile] beautiful-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, dear. Belle's gaze went between Tidus and Beast anxiously. Though it was true Tidus seemed to be coming off a bit condescending, she felt it was entirely accidental on his part. Surely this was his way of being friendly. She stepped between them quickly, reaching out to grasp Yuna's and Tidus' hand, smiling brightly. "So Beast and I --" she said his name firmly, glancing at Tidus with meaning -- "were thinking about getting some breakfast. Meals are considered to be one of the best social gatherings where I come from and I'd love for us to talk more comfortably. What do you say?"

She glanced over her shoulder at Beast, an encouraging, reassuring smile just for him curving her lips.

[identity profile] mystorydammit.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so Tidus got the hint when he saw Beast's teeth. Whoa, somebody's wound up. Wonder what crawled up his ass and died? Tidus shrugged more to himself than anything else. "Food sounds good to me." Tidus responded to Belle, thankful that beautiful women seem to be able to stop raging beasts. "Beast. Right. Got it." He inched ever so slowly away from Beast, knowing that if he flew into a rage he wouldn't hurt the women at least.

[identity profile] tolove-inreturn.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Beast's expression fell from anger to shame when Belle smiled at him. He wanted to apologize, but the words wouldn't leave his lips. He set himself pointedly away from Tidus, though he didn't hold himself with any confidence. His shoulders weren't held high, his head was slumped forward toward his chest.

Then he thought about her suggestion. His servants had always loved the meals, and made a show of them...long ago. He wondered if they were anything like that for Belle, even though she wasn't a Princess.

Princess or not, it was very comforting to have her nearby.

[identity profile] beautiful-tale.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Belle quickly took out her journal from the pocket under her apron and flipped it open. "Well, I suppose Cafe Ersesat would be the conventional choice...they're all over and very good!" She tapped her chin in thought, glancing up at Beast from the corner of her eye. "Is there anything you'd like in particular?" she asked of all of them, though she was mostly curious about Beast's tastes. What would he prefer? He seemed like he might be a bit picky.

[identity profile] mystorydammit.livejournal.com 2010-01-31 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Is this guy mute or what? I mean, it seemed to be popular that dainty young women went out with big burly manbeasts back in Yuna's Spira, but... this is kind of overdoing it, isn't it? Tidus shrugged, thankfully keeping his internal dialogue where it belonged: internally. He'd probably prefer something raw like a slain shoopuf. "Ever since coming here, I haven't had a good steak. Any place around here serve that?" He asked.

[identity profile] tolove-inreturn.livejournal.com 2010-02-02 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Beast didn't say it out loud, but steak didn't sound bad. Nothing here he'd found so far suited the tastes of a Prince, and he had long since given up on the hope he might find something that would please his spoiled palate. He'd also learned to stop turning up his nose at the food that was placed before him, to avoid causing undue stress to other patrons and the restaurant owners.

He looked back to Belle, and nodded to her, hoping that would be enough to show his acquiescence without the need for words. He was certain they would come out strained and angry, which would do nothing good for any of them.

[identity profile] beautiful-tale.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Steak seemed so luxurious to Belle. Though she'd been pretty lucky growing up with her father who always seemed to find ways to put food on the table, something like steak was almost an alien concept for her. Still, everyone else seemed to think such a meal was a common thing and, not wanting to be a country bumpkin, she smiled to cover up her worry at the cost.

"Yes, let's just head in a direction and see what we can find." With that, she struck out in one direction.

[identity profile] mystorydammit.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's one right there." Tidus pointed behind the group, a cafe which seemed to be advertising steak as its special for the day. "Let's just hope that the steak isn't anything weird like soylent green." He began to talk toward the cafe. "How about you three sit down while I go and place our order?"

[identity profile] tolove-inreturn.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Beast looked down at Belle with a curious quirk in his brow. Then he shrugged, and followed slowly by her side, keeping his huge footsteps short so that he would match her pace. Having her nearby made dealing with the boy easier, even though he would rather be rid of him.

He longed for the castle again, to be able to give Belle the night of her life. Maybe...maybe then she would fall in love with him! And the spell would be broken, and, and...

No...no. It would never happen. It couldn't be that easy...Belle didn't care for him that way. She was only there for him as if he were her pet, or her beast of burden. That was all he could ever be now to anyone...a beast.

[identity profile] beautiful-tale.livejournal.com 2010-02-09 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"O-oh..." Belle said sheepishly as Tidus pointed out a spot in the opposite direction of which she'd headed. Feeling a bit of a fool, she looked up at Beast and smiled apologetically, shrugging. "People always said I could never see what was right in front of me," she chuckled, blushing a bit.

She followed Yuna and Tidus as well. "Yes, that's fine!" she replied lightly. She had no idea what Tidus would order for them (all steak perhaps?) but she was curious to find out. She looked around for a suitable table (and most importantly, a chair that would accommodate Beast).

[identity profile] mystorydammit.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Man, that Beast sure was an odd one! It didn't take a genius to tell that Beast wasn't entirely fond of Tidus, which was good news for Tidus since he was able to take the hint. Then again, Beast was about as subtle as a blitzball to the groin when it came to that sort of thing... this time, anyway. Tidus would normally shrug it off, but (a) Beast was Yuna's friend's... pet? Something important to her. And (b) he wasn't entirely sure, but he couldn't just off and run. What if Beast went into a rage? It'd be like the time with the heartless, only... with the girls, instead. And Tidus would rather not have to protect both of them at the same time, since it didn't look like Belle was much of a fighter.

After putting in the order for some of the finest items on the menu (he'd worry about the check later), he made his way back to the table. Would Beast fit? Tidus was almost afraid to ask. If he initiated getting a bigger chair, he might take offense to it. If he didn't... he might take offense to it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

"I put in our orders."
