Well of course they weren't going to stay still. It would leave them wide open to whatever Kefka had to throw at them and Setzer, for one, didn't have any intention of simply letting Kefka do as he would.

"And here I would have thought that barbecued rat would be thoroughly unappetizing," he offered, with a very slight smile.

Then again, Kefka's tastes never had been particularly good. Case in point, the thoroughly blinding array of colors he chose to wear on a regular basis. But he'd a feeling that offering a jab at that might open a much bigger can of worms than the two of them could deal with. Instead, he'd simply continue to make off-hand remarks, and wait to see what Kefka would do next.
